Do I Need To Grow My Bangs Out For The Air Force

Are girls allowed to wear bangs in the Air Force?

I've been researching but can't find any answers about this. Are you allowed to wear your bangs down while in uniform? I have a huge forehead and don't feel comfortable having to pin my bangs back leaving my forehead exposed. I understand that during basic you might not be allowed to wear bangs, but afterwards are you allowed to wear your bangs down?

Honest answers about females in the Air Force?

Google AFI 36-2903 - it's the dress and appearance regulation. I've seen females with bangs but yes you CAN use clips to keep them up if necessary. Your hair accessories must be simple and match your hair color as close as possible. Your hair must be kept in a bun while in basic with all hair above the bottom edge of the collar. You will not be authorized to wear makeup (however, our flight was allowed makeup on picture day and the TI's let us get into our personal luggage to get it.) When it comes to having a child: all I can say is wait until you are done with basic training and tech school to even try for one. Pregnant women in the AF are allowed to do PT at their own pace and cannot be forced to do group PT exercises or the PT test. I worked up until the day I went into labor (40 weeks + 3 days). Military women get 6 weeks of non-chargeable post partum leave and are prevented from deploying or PT testing until they are 6 months post partum.

Hair and Bangs in the Air Force?

The guiding regulation is AFI 36-2903. You're looking for pages 17-21 (illustrations of female hair examples are found on page 21).

In short: A ponytail is only authorized while in the PT uniform and bangs cannot touch the eyebrows while in uniform. Out of uniform, you can wear your bangs however you want.

"Except in the physical training uniform (PTU), hair lengths that would be below the bottom edge of the collar will be pinned-up with no loose ends. Hair will not touch either eyebrow, to include an invisible line drawn across eyebrows and parallel to the ground."

" Exception: While wearing the PTU, long hair will be secured but may have loose ends and may extend below the collar; i.e. ponytails."

Navy hair regulations regarding bangs?

As I understand, you are allowed bangs as long as they are trimmed above the eyebrows. What if at some point you wanted to grow them out to a normal length? Would you not be able to?

Are females allowed to have bangs in Army basic training?

Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or extend below the bottom edge of the collar at any time during normal activity or when standing in formation. Long hair that falls naturally below the bottom edge of the collar, to include braids, will be neatly and inconspicuously fastened or pinned, so no free-hanging hair is visible. This includes styles worn with the physical fitness uniform/improved physical fitness uniform (PFU/IPFU).

You either have to cut them above the eyebrow or make sure you can pin them back.

What is the longest acceptable haircut in the US military?

Army Regulation 670–1 is the authority on this and says in Chapter 3, Section 2:(2) Male haircuts. The hair on top of the head must be neatly groomed. The length and bulk of the hair may not be excessive or present a ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance. The hair must present a tapered appearance. A tapered appearance is one where the outline of the Soldier’s hair conforms to the shape of the head (see scalp line in figure 3–1), curving inward to the natural termination point at the base of the neck. When the hair is combed, it will not fall over the ears or eyebrows, or touch the collar, except for the closely cut hair at the back of the neck. The block-cut fullness in the back is permitted to a moderate degree, as long as the tapered look is maintained. Males are not authorized to wear braids, cornrows, or dreadlocks (unkempt, twisted, matted, individual parts of hair) while in uniform, or in civilian clothes on duty. Haircuts with a single, untapered patch of hair on the top of the head (not consistent with natural hair loss) are considered eccentric and are not authorized. Examples include, but are not limited to, when the head is shaved around a strip of hair down the center of the head (mohawk), around a u-shaped hair area (horseshoe), or around a patch of hair on the front top of the head (tear drop). Hair that is completely shaved or trimmed closely to the scalp is authorized. (See figs 3–1 and 3–2.)The length of time it takes for any individual’s hair to exceed this allowed standard is highly variable. It is not always apparent from a photograph whether hair is long enough to reach the eyebrows, ears, or collar, but I would guess that Mr. Peck’s hair, in this case, would do so.
