a resume' is a highlight film NOT a documentary

you do NOT have to list every job you have ever had and in fact your resume' needs to include only information that is relevant to the job you are applying for.
an application is a different story, an application is a legal document, you must include the information that is requested, be it all employers in a time span or listed in chronological order etcetra.... failure to completely and truthfully complete an application is grounds for immediate termination with MOST employers..

MOST (but be very clear NOT all) employers only release dates of employment, job titles and when asked, rehire status......

it is NOT uncommon for former employees to be un-rehirable.... this is especially true with high unemployment due to the fact hat there are so many applicants for any opening.......
generally when an employee is seperated (quits or is fired) if they are hired back they simply don't last.......
in the case of those who were fired most don't change their work habits that got them fired the first time...
in the case of an employee who quit the reasons they quit the first time generally have not changed...
rehiring an employee seldom ever works out well for the employee or the employer........

there is no way for me to know WHY this employer has you as no rehire but if asked they probably will at least state that fact...

so if this employer is not relevant leave them off the resume' but if they fall within the parameters of an application you must list them....

you need to make this employer and their opinion of you irrelevant.
what did you learn from them that you can use later, what have you learned since you left them, what would you do differently, how have you grown as an individual and as an employee.
NOW all this would help if you knew why you were let go....
so at this time (right NOW) you must ask whoever is in charge of these decisions to meet with you, do NOT try to persuade them to change their reasoning just ask for clarification...
explain you need to learn from this, that you would appreciate it if they would just tell you why you were terminated, and what made you un-rehireable.....
be polite, professional, and be clear up front that you are NOT asking for your job back or that the status be changed but that you simply need to understand so you can move forward.....

this is actually two separate questions.....

a resume' is a highlight film not a documentary, you do not have to list every employer you have worked for.

an application is totally different, most ask for your last 3 to 5 employers in order or for all employment within a specific time frame.
failure to list previous employers on an application is grounds for termination if the former employer falls within the parameters the employer has requested.......

as far as the background check part of the question; that wil depend on the outside service the employer uses to do background checks. different services offer different levels of information from simple public record checks up to personal interviews and detailed investigations. generally most employers do a simple check of public records and employment information is NOT part of this type of background check.

What are the chances of becoming a famous film director?

It depends. You can't go into the career with a single minded goal of being a famous director. You have to break into the industry correctly. You must learn how to do a lot of job in the film. A film needs only one director, but it needs literally hundreds of other off-screen workers who do everything from publicity, to catering, to lighting design, to finding/making props for the production. There are so many films, that if you go into a broad job of wishing to work crew for films, you will definitely break into the industry.

Every film you work on, you will get credits as being reliable as well as building up contacts with producers and directors. This builds your name. When your name is built and you know a lot about the aspects of film-making your chance at getting to direct will come. Very few directors started directing when they first got there. They were doing other things in film. Some were even actors to begin with.

When you get one or two directing jobs (for a single television episode, or a smaller film) then you have the chance to start on your own, and really break into the field.

In the mean time, work on as much community theatre or school theatre as you can doing crew work. Try to find a small playhouse where you could put your name in as director once you get a true feel for what exactly they do. All the departments they have to manage. The more crew work you have on your resume, the better. Also, college for film-making is pretty much a must now.
