Do I Stay Or Do I Leave University At The End Of My Tether. Help.

When astronauts fix something during spacewalks, can they leave their tools, like screwdrivers, suspended while they switch with another tool?

We most certainly can, but leaving tools suspended requires one end to be tethered to something!Spacewalking in micro-gravity necessitates that everything must be “tied” down…, including the astronaut! We go through hours of practice in a 6.2 million gallon of water swimming pool near Houston, just so we can perfect our tether (tie-down) techniques. Many in our training circles would call it “basic tether protocol,” meaning attach and lock one end before unhooking the other. To me, it is more than that. Yet it can still be broken down to simply mean that you must be structured, measured, and thoughtful in your approach to working in outer space, starting with the time you enter the airlock.Departing the station from the Quest module (the airlock) requires we lock down our individual safety tethers. These specially designed braided wires, stretch for up to 85 feet, and —if we let go of everything while outside— will pull us all the way back to our starting point. Going further than 85 feet requires another safety tether and a tether swap. I have described this process in a prior Quora answer and my third book: It’s a Question of Space: An Ordinary Astronaut’s Answers to Sometimes Extraordinary Questions (University of Nebraska Press, June 2018).The author, spacewalking in 2007. Note the tether near my left hip, and the mini-work station attached to the front of my chest. My right wrist sports an adjustable tether, not yet deployed for use. When we arrive at our work site, we anchor ourselves using what we call “local tethers.” These are short-length tethers; one end attached to our suit, the other we attach to structure at whatever place makes sense. Any tool we will deploy to perform work at that site will also be tethered to our suit, typically to a metal bracket we call our mini-workstation. This bracket —affixed to the front of our space suit— has ample places for us to attach tether hooks holding needed equipment like our Pistol-Grip Tool (fancy screwdriver!), small retractable tethers (RETs), ratchet wrenches, pry bars, and adjustable tethers. It’s sort of like Batman’s Utility Belt, but not as cool!Keep lookin’ up… and tether your stuff when spacewalking!

If my girlfriend is leaving for college in a different state, what are the odds the relationship continues?

Not good.  As I've said before on Quora,  propinquity is a huge factor in predicting the success of a relationship.  That's a data point. Add to it the fact that she will be starting a brand new adventure with its own plot and characters and you might begin to see how  unnatural it would be for her to tether her development to the past.  But in the end,  there are so many variables is hard to say for sure. How unique are you as a couple? How deeply are you linked? How attractive is she? How far is the college? Are you going to college anywhere? Absent any of this information I would stay friendly but don't expect much in the way of  restrictions to hold up.  If you put them in place you will just be seeing yourself up for a fall.  If you want some kind  of a relationship with this girl,  don't test her and don't set up strict rules.  Think about what's best for her.  Probably it's to let her explore and develop.  Same for you.

What is the personality type for a Sagittarius?

Sagittarius:

…===Positive Traits===

charismatic • extroverted • friendly
free-spirited • idealistic • open-minded
intelligent • intellectual • knowledgeable • philosophical • creative
happy • joyful • fun-loving • optimistic
funny • good sense of humor
honest • truth-seeking • sincere
just • benevolent

[edit] Negative Traits
arrogant • know-it-all
clumsy • overly-curious
rebel • disregard for boundaries • restless • wanderlustful • Peter Pan Syndrome
quick-tempered • aggressive
hyper-sensitive • drama queen
over the top • loud •

Capricorn:

Positive Traits

• Practical and prudent
• Ambitious and disciplined
• Patient and careful
• Humorous and reserved

Negative Traits

• Pessimistic and fatalistic
• Miserly and grudging

This is not the easiest combination, since Sagittarius wants to have a lot of freedom, and Capricorn is devoted to honoring responsibilities. In order for these two to create a harmonious relationship, they’ll have to work very hard to respect one another’s wishes. It’s interesting to note that these two have more to offer one another than they might perceive when they first meet. Sagittarius can open Capricorn up to a whole new world of experiences, and Capricorn can teach Sagittarius how to be organized. They might fight when one of them feels the other needs to make compromises, and mutual understanding won’t come easy. But there are ways that they can heal their rifts. Capricorn and Sagittarius both love comedy, and when they engage in an amusing repartee, the laughter that ensues will be loud and hearty. In bed, these two can also find that for an ‘Odd Couple’, they can create a lot of sexual fire.

Need Advice....Shattered Ankle?

In 2004 I fell and shattered my ankle..I have screws and plate in the both sides of my left ankle..things aren't going well with it as come to find out there are more problems with my foot..the doctor who did the surgery told me that there is nothing more that he can do so he sent me for a second opinion.. this doctor gave me pain patches to wear that did help some but I can feel my foot getting worse and it scares me..My daughter called me because she knows someone who did the same thing and his doctor told him that the plate and screws have to come out after a year because the bone does heal...they can't remove mine as I did alot of damage..they said the next step would to take out the nerve in my foot...would it be worth it to do or just learn to live with this pain..been having alot of spasms in my foot at night and it is really bothersome..I am also afraid of losing my foot but if I have to then it needs to be done...has anyone out there had this done??

I’ve been caring for my mom, who has had MS for over 10 years. Due to injuries I physically can’t help much anymore, but also mentally. I feel broken inside, & often resent her even though I love her. What’s wrong with me? I just can’t do it anymore.

You are burned out and have run out of energy. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are doing the best that you can with the very little energy that you have.Maybe you could request some help from social services or a church?I am sorry that you are having to deal with this. It must be very difficult and trying and most people would have the same kinds of feelings. Also, I would suggest magnesium citrate supplementation for both of you as magnesium becomes depleted during times of stress, injury and illness. Magnesium is a n important mineral that is needed in over 400 enzymatic reactions in the body and one of the things it will do is help you both to feel calmer and it will help both of your physical systems work better.Solgar magnesium citrate tablets are a good brand or CALM magnesium citrate powder by Natural Vitality is a good brand. I have type 1 diabetes, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and I use both of these products and they have really helped me, especially with any anxiety or depression I might have.Well, however it happens, I hope you can somehow find some relief for your problems. Remember you are doing the best you can. Be proud of yourself.
