Why do so many liberals claim to be against capitalism, yet they all buy iPhones?
You confuse Liberals with Communists.Communists are the ones who want every aspect of the economy to be planned by the State. However it should be pointed out that just before his death, even Lenin had realised that the lack of innovation and distributive markets was hampering the USSR’s development and was considering how to re-introduce the “good” aspects of Capitalism.Most Liberals & Socialists believe in a mixed economy. One where the basics of decent access to food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare are provided for all People, via a system of State run Corporations, taxation and welfare payments. After that, well regulated capitalism can help drive innovation & find efficient forms of distribution.Many Liberals, and Socialists buy iPhones. Many others buy android or microsoft phones. Others have no phone. The same can be said of Capitslists and Conservatives. So your hyperbole betrays your lack of insight.Why should they not?. Do you ask why Capitalists don’t refuse help from socially provided services like the Police, Fire Departments, Armed Services etc and insist on providing their own defence against misfortune?Most on the left believe that those who work for a living should get the “full fruits of their labour”. Mostvof us do not believe that we should all live in the woods and grow our own vegetables until the world changes.As Aneurin Bevan (a Socialist Minister & founder of our National Health Service & Social Housing in the UK Labour government after ww2) might have said:Socialists & Liberals believe that everyone who wants an iPhone should be enabled to buy one!
If some Americans hate the USA so much, why don't they just leave?
Each person has their own story, I suppose, but if you think the US will leave someone alone just because they leave the country, there may be a rather painful lesson in your future.When an American leaves the US, the US government goes with them, and is going to crawl even farther up their arse than while that person lived in the US. In addition to continued tax liability, get used to frequent information filings with ferocious penalties for even minor omissions or mistakes, even if those mistakes have no tax consequences. Prepare to be discriminated against by every financial institution in the world, because the US has threatened sanctions against them. Just because Chinese or North Koreans can easily open an account at the bank down the street, doesn’t mean Americans can. The US’s numerous trade embargoes fully apply to US citizens overseas, so make sure to check the label in the airport duty-free shop carefully, to make sure that rum wasn’t made in Cuba.In addition to the above, we have another factor - perhaps some Iraqis and Afghans don’t like the US, but living outside the US didn’t really stop the US from destroying their lives (in many cases, literally), did it? But, an American who ran away to Iraq or Afghanistan (and who knows, maybe in the future, Iran, North Korea, or other countries) had the additional satisfaction of knowing that they were obligated to pay taxes to help fund the bombs falling on their heads.If you don’t like China, once you leave China, your troubles are over. If you don’t like the US, once you leave the country, your troubles are just beginning.
