At what age do children start school in your country?

In Finland there is a part-time pre-school (3-4 hours a day I guess) on the year when the child becomes 6 years old. It goes through schoolyear, so they always begin on August. It just became obligatory this year, previously it was voluntary but most did it anyway. Sometimes it is organized at school but mostly at kindergarten. Elementary school starts on the year child becomes 7, also on August. There is also a subjective right to daycare. Any kid is entitled to go to kindergarten with reasonable cost at least part time, if the parents decide so. The kindergarten teachers are university trained early education specialists, so I guess it resembles the first school years in those countries where kids go to school younger, even if less formal.

What is the best age for children to start school?

The best age based upon the psycho-spiritual development of a child is on their 7th birthday. This is the moment they have completed their “Infant” years of self-exploration. Any earlier than this and the child is likely to suffer separation anxiety from their mother and/or irritation that there blissful free existence has come to a brutal end. At this age they will almost certainly be out of their comfortable modern nappies, a real and under rated issue which impacts countries who force children to prematurely attend school at a younger age.Next they are ready to come together with others in more structured and disciplined environment to continue their learning for the next 7 “Child” years. After that basic grounding in reading, writing, maths, children are ready for their education to be amped up in the deeper sciences and humanities in the 14–21 year age bracket during the “Young” years. From age 21–28 they are mature enough to marry and live apart from their parents during their “Mature” years. Marrying earlier than this age tends to lead to a quick divorce as the person is not yet fully in touch with their emotional needs. As is frequently the case in Russia. From age 28–35, if all has gone well, they are responsible enough to start leading other people during their “Old” years.

At what age does a child start schooling in the USA?

An infant with disabilities may receive educational services from birth to three years of age. From 3 to 6, a young child with disabilities also is entitled to educational services, usually in a preschool setting, often with inclusion with typical peers, whose parents may be paying tuition, or who may be getting tuition paid by the government. Many public schools offer preschool for 4 year olds, generally paid for by parents. Prior to the age of 5/ beginning kindergarten, many children go to preschools that have hours to accommodate working parents’ schedules. Some are very expensive, others have adjusted tuition based on the parents’ ability to pay. Almost all American states have free public school kindergarten for children who are 5 years old by a specific date. Some programs are half day, some “whole day”, usually 8 to 3. Some schools have before school or after school programs, expect to pay for them. Many states require children to start school at 6, or file for children to be homeschooled. Most states have some kind of on line educational programs. Private, charter, or parochial (religious) schools may also be tuition free. Others can be very expensive.

What age do children generally start k-12 schooling?

In most states, children are 5 before they enter kindergarten. If you're talking in terms of development, it's best to wait until at least 7 to start educating. (Read "Better Late Than Early" (the Moores) and "The Hurried Child" (by David Elkind.) If you're asking in term of legality, check your specific state's laws. California requires children 6 and over to be enrolled in school.

Why can't we start children's school age by ten years old?

You can. You can homeschool them until ten. Homeschooling doesn’t need to look like school at home. It can look like unschooling which is actively supporting children in exploring their interests while exposing them to new things. But if you’re asking why the system can’t be changed so that no child goes to school until they’re ten, what do you propose would be done with all those kids until ten? They would either need a parent home with them or some kind of day care. Society is set up around parents having free access to daily babysitting. Taking that away would cause a huge disruption that no one is asking for.An individual family can choose to not send their child to school until ten. There’s no need to impose that on everyone.
