Do Rubber Bands For Braces Always Hurt

Why do rubber bands on braces hurt so bad?

Most likely this is due to the teeth and jaw being pulled on by the rubber bands which puts pressure on nerve ends in the teeth which causes pain. But don't worry, it only lasts about a week or so. The worst part, in my experience, is those darn spacers!

Do rubber bands for braces always hurt?

I'll try to explain this as best as i can so here it goes. I'm aiming this question towards people who have/had braces before.
You know how when you get your braces tightened it hurts for a few days and then the pain goes away? Well I was wondering if that's how it is with rubber bands. I usually don't wear my rubber bands (i know i should, but i usually forget to) I went the the ortho 2 days ago and they said to wear my rubber bands blah blah blah. But this time I'll definitely remember to wear them because if I don't, my front teeth are gonna buck out with this new wire. So I've been wearing the rubber bands the past 2 days and usually the pain starts to dull after this amount of time, but it hasn't. So I was wondering, does pain from rubber bands go away after a while like it would if you were just getting your braces tightened? Or do I have to deal with this pain until I get my braces off?

My rubber bands for braces hurt!?

I had the exact same thing as you. I got the rubber bands. For the first couple hours, it was just a lot of pressure, but later on in the evening and that night I had the most intense pain ever. It wasn't a sharp pain, but more of a dull, throbbing pain. I was up for hours, and I honestly thought it was the worst night of my life. Its normal for this to happen. Just KEEP THEM ON!! You may be tempted to take them off because of the pain (because it immediatly subsides after taking them out) but don't. it will just make the pain go away later rather than sooner. keep em on. I did, and therefore I got my braces off faster than most of my friends. idk if its normal to have a migraine... but maybe because of the intense pain, but if you wanna be sure check with your ortho. i had the jaw pain... it felt like HELL. then my stupid ortho took off the rubber bands for a few months. and then thought, "let's put them on her AGAIN!" oh boy did i hate that. the whole thing happened over.

just take pain meds... its normal.. ik it hurts but stay strong!!!!!
(try ice packs on your jaw.. kindof helps)

Do rubber bands hurt on braces? any advice about it?

The rubber bands don't hurt any more then a regular adjustment does. The biggest problem with them is they are tiny and a pain in the neck to hook on properly.

Just make sure you know exactly how the dentist wants them before you leave the office.
Even with the strongest adjustment, the pain from braces only lasts 2 days. By day three..you are O.K.
I used to take the bands off when I ate and then replace them.
You can eat whatever you want as long as you brush your teeth after.

Braces: How fast do the rubber bands/elastics work?

It's honestly really hard to say because everyone is different. It may take as little as 3 months, or 2 years, depending on how bad your overbite is. Just remember to always wear them, that will make a huge difference in how long you have to wear elastics/braces.

Teeth hurt so bad from rubber bands?

Ugh I just got the same thing today, I had to wear them a couple months ago and he put me back on them because im getting them removed in June. Its the worst pain ever, drink cold water eat soup, ice cream, yogurt, anything cold and soft. The pain will stop in a couple days trust me and it will be worth it in the end. Just dont take them out if they hurt because the longer you wear them the more yout teeth will get use to it and will heal faster, only take them out when you eat.
