Do Unemployed Republicans Think They Are Jobless Because They Are Lazy

Republicans, please help! How do you feel about this issue?

I have to write a speech in the place of Mark Meadows, a very conservative congressman. I am very liberal, so I am having a hard time writing it.

Republicans: What are some reasons you would be against a bill that would disallow bosses to fire a woman because she decides to go on birth control or decides to get an abortion?

Why Do Republicans call Unemployment Benefits" Handouts"?

To Get unemployment, you have to qualify. And that process can take 2 months. In that Process, you have a meeting set up with your previous employer, and you have to prove that your termination was a result of something you could not prevent. It's not like any body can just get fired and decide to get unemployment checks. The process takes a very long time, Plus you barely get enough money to survive on, Do Republicans really think anyone can live good on 1000 a month? Taxed? For most people that's not even enough to make rent payments. That's about what you would do at a Part time job at Mcdonalds. How is that living good? And how is that a " Handout". And why aren't you worried, about your grandchildren, paying the debt, of the trillions of dollars in tax cuts , going to Millionaires and Billionaires? That's ok for your grandkids to pay for that. And How can someone keep their government hands off your medicare? How will you get Medicare with no government? None of this stuff makes sense to me? Hand outs? Government hands?

Do republicans believe we should eliminate unemployment benefits?

I was just watching cnbc and a right wing talking head from a prominent conservative think tank, cato institute, argued that extending unemployment benefits raises the unemployment rate. He said unemployment benefits raise the unemployment rate 1%. This means we should forget the other 9% of unemployed (or whatever percentage qualifies for the benefits) because if we do then 1% will find work flipping burgers part time out of desperation. Republicans, do you like this idea?

I'd also like to mention that the true socialist countries of scandinavia all have lower unemployment rates (some much lower) than the united states. and i'm sure they have great unemployment benefits. you can look that up on economist.com

Do people get lazy on unemployment?

I'm guessing you, or your friend are pretty young, and aren't married, with kids or a house.

That's when you can do that sort of thing, when your salary isn't needed as much. When you can go to your parents for a little extra, and the job was not part of your career plan but just a way to make money.

For those who have many responsibilities, that they were able to meet on the salary from a good paying job, they aren't getting lazy, they are getting desperate. Unemployment doesn't pay enough to make up for someone living a normal family life that they could afford on their previous salary.
One exception to that is people who become depressed by the constant rejections or just the way they apply and there is no response at all from companies who are using this time to go fishing for new employees. Clinical depression can look like laziness, typically there is a lack of will to go out and do anything at all.

People don't get lazy, but at some point the stop sending out hundreds of resumes, and going to job fairs, because they get no response. The get discouraged.

Ashley, your boyfriend isn't lazy, he is depressed, even if he can't admit to it, or thinks depression means crying all the time and he's isn't doing that. He is the poster boy for what happens when you get too depressed to try and even have a life.

Why are Republicans in particular so insensitive to the needs of the long term unemployed?

"Get a job you lazy bum" is a simple solution to a complex problem. For some people it's not that easy to go to work everyday. Compassion heals, hatred only hurts.

Does Unemployment cause laziness?

While I am sure there are people who aren't looking very hard, the vast majority of unemployed would love to have a job. First of all, unemployment benefits are small and don't pay the bills anymore than a minimum wage job does. Second, most people want to be useful, want to contribute and have a sense of self worth and dignity. Being out of work depletes your savings, can mean loss of home and sometimes family, cause depression and despair - - - it is not a gravy train. Rather unemployment help is a very thin life line. Those who rant against it rarely have ever been out of work themselves so they have little concept of what it is like.
Yes, I know people who are looking and can't find anything.

What is a way to solve unemployment problems?

Cut taxes, then people have more money to spend. When they spend more money, businesses produce more. When they produce more, they hire more. When they hire more, more people are spending money, so they need to hire more and produce more. Opponents spitefully call it "trickle down economics," but it works.

Conversely, if you raise taxes, people have less to spend, so production goes down, and hiring goes down. It can be a vicious cycle the other way.
