Do Usmc Mortarman Go On Patrols

Do USMC Mortarman go on patrols?

Mortars have a very limited range. In order to make the most of that range they need to be close the the units they are supporting.

Your 60mm mortars definitely go on patrol.

Do 0341 mortar men in the USMC often work with or go out on patrol will 0311 Infantry?

I am leaving for boot camp in may and will be in my Reserve unit back home, which is an LAR/ Infantry company. I am curious if we get to deploy will i be able to be up with the 0311's on patrols or any thing related to that. I don't want to be "in the rear with the gear"

Marine mortarmen see combat?

my question is do mortarmen see close quarter combat, im talking about rifle to rifle. even tho there main mos is to fire the mortar. i just enlisted under mortarmen and i was hoping to see some combat rifle to rifle.

What all does a U.S. Marine mortarman do?

Like do they ever go out on patrols with 0311's and kick in doors and clear houses or do they just mainly stay in the back and provide cover fire for the 0311's? also what is a typical day out in the field as a 0341?

Marine Corps MOS 0341 (Mortar Man)?

If you go active duty, then you can only choose your job's field of infantry. If you go reserves, you can pick your exact job of 0341 if it is available in your area.

While in infantry school, you should be able to pick 0341 if you pass their specific test. Since most want 0311, volunteers for the other MOS's are always welcomed if you meet their requirements. Just clearly understand that when going active duty, you are not guaranteed your exact job.

Infantry Mortarman questions ?

Im enlisted in the Marine Corps and I have a UH - 03xx contract, which means when I leave for bootcamp this coming summer, I'll become an Infantryman after bootcamp. Now when I get to SOI, I know you get a "wish list" for the particular 0300 MOS you want. I score a high 1st Class PFT, i got a 67 on the ASVAB with a 104 GT score, and Im very strong and in really good shape. Right now I'm trying to decide between 0311 Rifleman or 0341 Mortar-man. So with that said, here's my questions:

These questions are all pertaining to the 0341 Mortarman MOS:

1. If I were to become a Mortarman, would I be going on patrols and searching houses like the rest of the infantry (0311's)??
Or would I be stuck in a COP, never going outside the wire?

2. If Mortarman do go on patrols, and outside the wire, how often would I be doing this?
What would I be carrying as a Mortarman on patrols? (60mm or 81mm, m4, etc)

3. How much combat do you think a Mortarman would see? Are they close to the action, or further away from it shooting mortars? What about if I went on patrols?

4. I read something about if your a Mortarman, you either get assigned to a Wpns. Platoon or Company. It said if your in a Wpns. Plt you cary the 60mm and if your in the Wpns. Company you carry the 81mm?
If you carry the 81mm as a Mortarman, would you still be going on foot patrols with the regular infantry? And what are my chances of getting to carry the 81mm?

5. How often do Mortarman "hump" or hike with their mortars?? (60mm/81mm)

6. How often and what would I cross-train with if i were to become a Mortarman in the Marines?

7. If i were a Mortarman, would I basically be an 0311, doing 0311 type stuff (kicking doors, searching houses, patrolling, etc) and then when the situation calls for it, Im the one who uses the mortars???

8. Anything else you have to say would be helpful

Thanks alot

What exactly does a Marine Corps mortarman do?

A mortarman would serve on a mortar crew, and carry small arms for defense. If its a mounted unit, the vehicle would have a machinegun. But you job would be to assist in firing the weapon, and maintaining it. Because its a stationary weapon, you might have to defend your position.

Are Marine Infantry mortarmen mechanized or on foot?

Hi I was wondering a few things about Marine Corps Infantry Mortarmen - 0341s. I'll number my questions to make it easy to read:

1. Are mortarmen considered to be Infantry grunts or artillery?

2. I know that there are two different mortarmen within the Marines; the 60mm and 81mm mortarmen. How do these two different types of mortarmen differ (other than one being assigned to a infantry platoon, and the 81s being assigned to a company)
How do their duties differ?

3. Do 60mm mortarmen go on patrols with the rest of the infantry since their mortars are lighter?
Or do they stay back thousands of meters away from the front line troops?

4. Do 81mm mortarmen break down their mortars into groups since their heavier & go on patrols with the infantry? Or are they thousands of meters back from the front line troops?
Are 81mm mortarmen most often assigned to a vehicle/mechanized? Or are all mortarmen on foot at all times in the Marine Corps?

5. What would training be like for an Infantry 60mm mortarmen? How about for an 81mm mortarman?
What all is involved with their training? (humps, digging foxholes, mortar pits, do they go to rifle ranges often?

Do mortarmen go to the rifle ranges often to keep their skills sharp with the m-16s as well? Or do they only shoot mortars & never their rifles?

6.How physically demanding is the job of an infantry mortarman on a 1-10 scale? How hard is it compared to the rest of the infantry MOS's?

7. Which MOS do you prefer out of these 3: 0311 Rifleman, 0331 Machine Gunner, or 0341 Mortarman?

USMC 0352 MOS - Infantry TOW Gunner?

JJ: You might want to go back and read the answer I gave you a couple weeks ago to this same question. If you are bored, recommend a 5 mile run, 80 crunches in 2 minutes, 20 pullups, and 50 pushups. That will burn your time in a profitable manner to prepare you for a life in the Corps.

PS: The answers won't change for TOW crews, infantry, or any other question that you ask multiple times and get multiple answers based on experience.
