Do Washing Machines Clean Petrol Out Of Towels

Why does my washing machine smell like rotten eggs?

Week after week we are cleaning our soiled clothes. It gets dark in there and wet so this can be a breeding ground for mold mildew and the collection of soil. Here are a few things you can do in order to combat any odors that come up as a result of this. The first is to leave the washer door open after you finish using it. Do this for at least a few hours. This will allow moisture to escape and air the washer drum out.If the washer is already stinky leaving the door open won’t do much about the smell except keeping the smell from getting worse. The next thing you can do is put ¼ cup baking soda and equal water into the detergent container and then adding 2 cups of white vinegar to the drum. From there, run the washer like normal; this will help break down build up and kill mold and mildew. After you have done this if you still notice a smell or large spots of mildew, then mix together vinegar and water and scrub at the stain with the rough side of a sponge cloth. This is a little more hands on, but it’s an effective way to attack the source of the smell.closely inspect your washer for any hidden or tight spots that might be hosting the stinky mold or mildew. Knobs and the detergent container are often culprits, so look at those. If possible, remove the rubber gasket around the door, since water often seeps back there and mold can easily grow. Also some washers come with a cleaning setting if yours does you can also run this cycle through the washer you may or may not need to purchase some of the cleaner this setting requires.Hope this helps

Is it safe to use a washing machine to get antifreeze out of clothes?

Antifreeze from a broken snowglobe got into a lot of my clothes and felt it was necessary since we own a dog. After speaking to the vet, it was recommended that a long cycle in the washing machine would suffice, but others have said otherwise. I have already washed a very large proportion of the clothes for an hour in the washing machine. Is this long enough and is it the right method?

Gun cleaning solvent in my washer!?

Do not panic.

If this is a front loading machine, take a clean damp cloth with baking soda on it - and gently rub and clean the gaskets.

Next - you will need some clean rags, old jeans, or old towels - put them in with 1/2 cup of baking soda for the longest and hottest cycle. You will not accomplish anything by just running the machine empty of any fabrics - you need these to scrub the surfaces. You can add a drop or two of detergent - but you want zero suds, as suds will cushion the cloth rubbing and cleaning action.

If this is a top loader - remove the agitator and take outside to clean. Leave it in the sun. The drum will have felt pads to cushion the sides - these will need to be replaced. Use the same old clothes and baking soda procedure mentioned above.

Good luck!
