Do We Just Need To Draft Mitt Romney For 2016

Do you think that if Mitt Romney gets nominated for the Republican Presidential candidate?

They need someone who can appeal to people that are independents. I feel many if not all republicans would vote Romney for the simple fact that they wouldn't vote Obama. The people on the sidelines and the people open to not voting Obama on the democratic side is what he needs to go for, but I'm not sure who could fill that void.

Mitt Romney - Is he really a thief?

Romney makes Gordon Gekko look like chump change.

Most voters don't know the way Mitt Romney actually made his fortune: by borrowing vast sums of money that other people were forced to pay back. This is the plain, stark reality that has somehow eluded America's top political journalists for two consecutive presidential campaigns: Mitt Romney is one of the greatest and most irresponsible debt creators of all time. In the past few decades, in fact, Romney has piled more debt onto more unsuspecting companies, written more gigantic checks that other people have to cover, than perhaps all but a handful of people on planet Earth.

Could Mitt Romney turn around the Veterans Administration?

I would definitely say yes.  I agree with the conclusion expressed in Mike Holovacs answer, but it is sad for the VA that his sentiment is probably correct.  It doesn't matter what Romney's military career, or lack of one, has to do with straightening out the mess at the VA.  It is quite obvious that military service is not mandatory for resolving this current business management crisis because if a four star combat veteran couldn't get the job done then who?  Do we even have five star generals anymore?Romney and others like him are business people.  What the VA needs is someone running it with the authority to reward the winners and fire the losers. Period.  No paid administrative leave, no government service union BS, no political shields.  Do your job or here is your final check.

Isn’t Steve Bannon calling out Mitt Romney like the pot calling the kettle black?

I don’t know about you but I am amused about all these Republicans calling each other out, and the guy who was hypocritically calling out people before is the guy getting called out now. This is like the end game of GOP where you have to scrape people off the GOP barrel bottom and defend them against the pond scum below that bottom layer.Mitt Romney called Trump a con man and his words are worth as much as a degree from Trump U and then went and kissed his ring and ate frog legs with Trump to be his Secretary of State and I bet my ass Trump planned it to perfection to humiliate Romney.I hated Romney in 2012 and suddenly he is some kind of Super hero fighting evil and protector of Gotham City now? Same with guys like Bob Corker or Lindsey Graham and these guys flip flop every other day.Let me be honest and say I won’t feel sorry for any of these guys whether they are kettle or pot or the goddamn tea cup. The GOP needs to implode and break out into an all out civil war because that is the inevitable end game for their fucked up strategy for over 35 years. Just as we speak, they are getting ready to usher in a pedophile who was shitlisted in an Alabama Mall by Mall Security for being a creep but he is just fine and dandy for Mitch McConnell and his Senate comrades.

Who is more of a draft dodger, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, Mohammed Ali or Kareem Abdul Jabar?

Well, Clinton, Trump, Biden, Cheney, and Romney all received student deferments while in college.Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford when he might have been drafted, and so was not drafted. There has been conjecture about how induction was delayed until his matriculation at Oxford.Trump had a series of student deferments. When these expired, a doctor certified that he had bad feet, leading to a 4F exemption (“unfit”). There has been suspicion about the validity of that certification.Biden had a series of deferments. When the student deferments ran out, his pre-induction physical resulted in a 4F classification because of childhood asthma.Cheney, by the time his series of student deferments ended, had married and was soon to become a father. He applied for and received a 3A (hardship) classification.Romney supplemented his student deferments with a 4D (religious service) for his Mormon mission.None of these men could legitimately be called a “draft dodger,” although of course they used the system to their own advantage—as did a million or so other men. (I had received an ROTC scholarship, which exempted me from the draft while I was in school, so I am not a draft dodger, either.)Lew Alcindor, aka Kareem Abdul Jabar, was classified 4F because of his height. So, also not a draft dodger. That leaves Muhammed Ali. As the world heavyweight boxing champion, he was arguably the highest profile black man in America. When he refused to be drafted in 1966, he was convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to a $10,000 fine and five years in prison. He posted bond remaining out of jail while his case worked its way through the appeals process. The Supreme Court eventually overturned his conviction, after he had lost his prime athletic years. Some would say, “See? That makes Ali the major draft dodger of the list!”But I would argue that his integrity and personal conscience were heroic, and put him in a completely different category than the white politicians listed, who manipulated the system rather than opposing it.

How would things be different now if Romney had run against Clinton in 2016 rather than against Obama in 2012?

Romney would have lost against Clinton in 2016.Trump managed to pull a couple blocks out of the blue wall in the Midwest. A crime the press still haunts him and his appointees for. Trump had Midwest appeal and preached economic recovery like it was the Gospel. Immigration was big as well as the mention of tariffs for steel and aluminum to protect domestic production. Chinese (and a few others) steel is nationalized and can be sold (dumped is the economic term) here for a loss to destroy domestic steel production - then they can hike up prices as they see fit.Romney would NOT have been able to preach the gospel of economic recovery believably. Trump is also incendiary and while that sounds bad - he is interesting to both opponent and proponent. So many millions sit out of most elections and if Trump can pull just a few hundred thousand of those off the bleachers he can eek out a win over an entrenched democratic name like Clinton.Romney could not excite a diner. Trump excites whole cities. Forces them to violence and that gets news and it gets people out to vote against those who cast the first stone (always democrats). Unless you recall the tea party riots of 2010.http://www.northescambia.com/201...I mean look at those rioters! They are on the edge of burning down all of Portland!https://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/...It was so bad! Look at the riots! The point is Romney would have lost against Clinton.

Are Donald Trump and Bill Clinton draft dodgers?

Bill Clinton lied to his draft board, pretending that he’d enroll in ROTC, to evade the draft. Trump had a bone spur, but that only got him a very brief deferment, as bone spurs heal quickly, within weeks. Trump had several education deferments & then got so high a draft number in the lottery, he would never have been drafted. Trump did attend the New York Military Academy near West Point and experienced military life for 5 years, more than many in active duty military. Obama forged his selective service card, to pretend he didn’t try to evade a possible draft during Jimmy Carter’s reaction to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. Joe Biden got a fake medical deferment for asthma, and more educational deferments than even Dick Cheney, if that is even possible. Hillary pretended she tried to join the marines, rejected due to her chromosomes. Hillary claims she dodged bullets at the airport during the Kosovo war. Al Gore actually served in Vietnam, but only for a few months, as a “journalist” attached to an engineering unit, and with two body guards at all times, in only the most secure areas, all promised personally by Gen. Westmoreland, before Gore would agree to go at all. John McCain destroyed 5 planes and crashed in Vietnam, immediately trading military intelligence to North Vietnam in exchange for privileged POW treatment. McCain later did 32+ radio propaganda broadcasts for North Vietnam, calling our troops “war criminals.” John Kerry served in Vietnam, getting himself purple hearts for paper cuts, and also calling our troops “war criminals.” Most of our Vietnam era politicians, presidential & vice presidential candidates were either draft dodger cowards, traitors, or both, during Vietnam. Bush W. and Quayle got into exclusive elite reserve units that would never be called into active duty or Vietnam. Mitt Romney thought Vietnam was a good time to be a Mormon missionary in France. Joe Lieberman got educational and family deferments. Bernie Sanders applied for conscientious objector status during the war. No one has asked him if he’d be a pacifist as president and object to serving as commander in chief. Ralph Nader did serve in the Army Reserves. Dr. Jill Stein chose a military veteran as her vice presidential running mate in 2016.
