Do You Carry A Hankerchief Or Package Of Tissues To Blow Your Nose Or Do You Use Your Sleeve Like A

What On Earth ever happened to people using Handkerchiefs?

Ugh, groan, why do people do that.
So many times I've been near folk who cough and sneeze with no hankies or tissues in sight.
They carry on regardless of what germs they spread and who they inflict them on,I agree it's disgusting and thoughtless.

Blowing nose with a toilet tissue?

Hooray, have a cold at the moment, I'm a cheapskate, and tissues are expensive. Is it acceptable to blow your nose with toilet tissue?

First of all, I'd like to point out it was a brand new roll specially summoned for the purpose, so no faecal matter here! :P

I find it more convenient, mainly because it's soft enough, I can tear off what I need when I want, and not waste any tissue.

Is it acceptable to walk around with a toilet roll in your pocket for sed purpose?

What do people in Japan usually carry outdoors: tissues or handkerchiefs?

I’ll preface by saying that seeing people blow their nose in public is somewhat rare, but I think it’s more likely that someone with a cold or allergies will carry a small packet of tissues for the purpose. A woman might always have some tissues in her bag, cold or no cold, if she’s the “always prepared” type. A man might carry a handkerchief in his pocket, but a woman probably won’t.Most people also carry small hand towels (thicker than handkerchiefs— I guess I could call them washcloths), but they aren’t for nose-blowing. Public restrooms don't stock paper towels, so people bring their own towels for their hands. As mentioned, the tissue packets might be freebies that get handed out as advertising, like this one promoting a pharmacy:This is what I think of when I say “handkerchief.” It’s thin, could be somewhat decorative in a suit pocket, and not really ideal for drying hands:And then a thicker hand towel:

Why do men no longer carry hankerchiefs?

Hankerchiefs were used to dry forehead, tears, hands, clean lenses, and were put in chest and pants pockets sticking out a bit to add personal style. I think they have become a forgotten accessory for men, especially in the US where some of the behavior might be considered effeminate by the masculine norms (stupid).I like designer Massimo Alba’s hankerchiefs with a nostalgic sentiment that he makes in every collection.

How do people blow their noses back then?

It's called a "farmer snot" push against your nostril that is not clogged and blow out with the other. The snot or whatever that is in there will come flying out.

Is it gross to wipe your nose with your sleeve?

I do the same thing if there are no tissues present. I mean, what else CAN you do? Sometimes I try putting my head back a bit so nothing will drip down from my nose :/ but that's doesn't always work. I would suggest carrying some tissues around with you in a purse, backpack, or pocket. If you can't make it to the bathroom or you've run out of usable tissues, I think it would be sufficient to use your sleeve-hey, it's better than using your hand which could possibly spread your germs, right!?

Is using a handkerchief classy or scummy?

,At one time using a handkerchief was a sign of good manners (instead of using a shirtsleeve, etc.). With the knowledge of how germs spread, it is more sanitary to blow your nose on something that is disposable - rather then allowing germs to grow in a nice warm pocket.

What do you do when you have a runny nose, but no tissues?

Here's the (hypothetical) situation: This is snot a laughing matter. Your nose is running and it'll be heading for your mouth soon if you don't do something about it.

- You haven't got any tissue, toilet paper or handkerchiefs with you.

- You're surrounded by people who are definitely going to notice anything you choose to do(including doing nothing).

What do you do?
This is purely hypothetical; I take tissues everywhere. I'm so paranoid about this sort of thing!
I just thought it would be interesting to see how people answer.

Whatever did people do before tissues were invented?

I have had this horrible cold this week and I am realizing how desperately thankful I am for tissues right now, which made me wonder...how did people go about their yucky nose "business" before tissues were invented?
