Negative effects of placing a bed in front of the radiator?
It's probably not a fire hazard, and since it's covered you won't be vulnerable to burning yourself on it during the night, but placing the bed so close to a radiator that's in use will : (1) block the efficient distribution of heat to the room - the bed will absorb a lot of the heat that's supposed to be circulating around the room. (2) possibly damage the bed over time, or shorten its useful life - the materials that make up the bed will be subject to repeated heating and cooling, and a very dry environment, which can warp wood and make it fragile, as well as damaging natural covering materials like leather. (3) make an unpleasant environment for sleep - a hot, dry atmosphere close to the bed doesn't make for a quality night's rest. It will make you hot and uncomfortable, and dry your respiratory tract. Radiators are noisy things too, they clank, clunk, gurgle and hiss as they heat up and cool down, which will disturb you. It depends on how much you use the radiator, I guess. If you're serious about your room design, you could always get a heating engineer to move the radiator elsewhere, which would allow you to place your bed where you want, or turn the radiator off completely and replace it with an oil-filled electrical one elsewhere. It's not risky to place the bed next to a covered radiator, but I get the feeling you'll probably regret putting it there.
