Do You Find This In Any Sense Profound

ATHEISTS, Do you find this in any sense profound?

It was February, 2000 and my wife and I had just returned from an International Dog Show that was held in Frankfurt, Germany. It was late at night and we went to bed, exhausted from the trip. I was in the "half awake and half asleep" state when I saw a six-foot-tall demon with bat-shaped wings and an ugly, twisted face flying toward me! It seemed like a real classical demon right there in my bedroom.

I put my arms out to stop it and it grabbed my hands and started pushing toward me with all of its might. It was grunting and growling as it kept on pushing toward me. The power struggle seemed last for several minutes. I controlled my fear the best I could and kept on trying to hold it back. The demon seemed to be winning and then with an unexpected burst of energy I pushed it off of me. The demon made an angry cry of defeat and left.

It's still etched in my mind so clear, and now I believe that demons are real. The best thing I learned from this is that you can beat a demon if you can control your fear and you don't give up the fight

Why do I feel such a profound sense of weariness from the endless arguments and vitriol in the world?

Hear, hear! I've often said that "Rhetorical excess is the root of all evil."    :-)But behind this rather mild humor, there is a serious point. None of the world's problems would stand a chance of outlasting human ingenuity if ONLY we could communicate honestly with one another.  Consultation is a sufficiently powerful tool, in its own right, to transform society. Unfortunately, many obstacles present themselves to its adoption, and you seem uniquely sensitive to the irritating clamor that results. These problems need spiritual and social solutions, not technological fixes, of course. Meanwhile, you should harbor your strength so that you can be part of the solution and not be worn down by what are effectively the voices of the past still chattering on. Knowing your susceptibility, read more selectively. While it is true that there is far too much vitriol and polemic, too much heat and not enough light in public discourse, there are also voices of reason and beacons of hope. Seek them out. In time, add your own on behalf of reason.

How could I possibly think in a deeper and more profound way?

Why are you asking this? Why do you think that you can’t think ‘deeply’?Can you not think of anything you don’t understand?Let me show you.The general definition of heaven is a place of never-ending happiness. A place where you can’t be unhappy. You are forced to be happy. You then have to worship a deity that is incredibly spiteful for eternity. If you have read many of my answers, then you should know that I have spoken about too much of anything. It’s horrible.Orgasms, for example. They feel great, but not when you have them 24/7. Let me give you an idea for both genders. For guys, imagine that you get hard. Then you orgasm without doing anything. And you get hard again immediately. That is called PGAD.Same for women, except without the hard dick part. You just get aroused immediately after orgasm. It’s painful.I could say the same for endless torture. This is why Hell will not scare me. After awhile, it gets boring.Wait.Maybe Hell is not whips and fires. Maybe Hell is not this,Maybe it’s just this. This is a white photo. What if Hell was this? Not nothing, but just white. There is no reason for the white, but it will drive you crazy trying to find an answer to it.I swear to an omnipotent being, I did not write all that about Hell on purpose. I drifted off from what I was writing to an idea.My point is, thinking about what you don’t know, and creating theories about the answer will make your thoughts deeper.Whenever I write, I think of so many different hypothetical theories that it clouds my focus. I get distracted. I start wandering off in my writing, just like I did before.I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing.-Socrates

Can Quora help in my profound loneliness?

Feeling lonely has little to do with how many friends you have. It's the way you feel inside. Some people who feel lonely may rarely interact with people and others are surrounded by people, but don't feel connected.  In general, those who feel lonely actually spend no more time alone than those who feel more connected. So Quora can be an indirect part of the solution, but not a direct way to overcome your loneliness.Create some time to reflect on your life and think about the bigger picture.Schedule some leisure time that will open doors to creativity and innovation.Challenge yourself personally and professionally to get outside of your comfort zone. Many lonely people believe they are unique in their situation and that it's not normal to feel as lonely as they do. Yet most everyone feels lonely at times. Find some comfort in knowing, in that sense, that you are not alone. If you're not energized by solitude, then it can transform into loneliness; and when that loneliness persists, it can transform into depression. If you suffer from persistent feelings, please reach out to anyone to talk to, personally or professionally; there are far more people willing to listen and help than not. You are lonely, but again, you are not alone.

Religion vs. curiosity + a sense of wonder: Are they interlinked..?

..So No Chance Without Jesus asked this one question wondering why we're exploring space, trying to find water on Mars, etc. As he put it: "Atheists, don't you think the price of trying to prove that there is no god is a little too high?" ..As if THAT was why we're doing it, not out of profound curiosity about how this universe really works and what there is to explore out there. *Sigh*.

It seems like, for a lot of people, religion answers absolutely ALL of their questions, so there's just no point in trying to learn or discover anything new. If we're attempting to acquire some new information, it's just an effort to "disprove god", or it is ultimately meaningless, because religion supposedly has all of the answers anyway, so what more would we need to know..? (Okay, I am exaggerating in order to make a point. I know that not ALL believers are like this, but still..)

So I just wanted to ask you guys:

How do you think religion/theism and curiosity about this world and this universe are interlinked? Do you think they affect one another, and if so, how?

If you're religious: Are there still things you are profoundly curious about? Things you do not yet understand, but you really *want* to know? What are they? And if you're not curious about anything, why is that?

And if you're not: Have you ever been religious at some point? When you lost your faith, did you become more or less curious? Personally my curiosity and appetite for knowledge increased a lot. But I'm not saying it has to be that way for everyone.

Regardless: I think we should all try to keep our sense of wonder about this world.
It makes me sad when I see people who couldn't possibly care less. How are we supposed to advance if we are not even willing to explore..?

Electronic Music: In what sense is deep house "deep"?

i would say it depends on whether you are referring to the current trend of deep house, in which case, the answers regarding the bass, tempo etc cover it. However, if you mean real deep house, then that is specific to the soulful house genre. It is more about the emotion, the way the music makes you feel as much as the way it sounds. Yes the bass frequency tends to be lower & the instrumentation is eloquent, the vocals, if there are any, are more likely to be intelligent & evocative, but vocals aren't compulsory. Think profound, think music that will reach inside you, deep inside you & at the point when you understand that real house is a feeling, then you will listening to deep house. I'm afraid I cant explain it any better than that....hope you find it!
