Do You Get Tuition Refund If You Are Deployed In The Middle Of College

Do you lose your tuition if you're deployed mid-semester in the marines?

My recruiter told me that if you are in the reserves and going to college, and if your unit is deployed during your semester, then your college or university is required by federal law to allow you to withdraw from all classes with full tuition reimbursement. Is this true? thank you

Can I take college classes while Deployed military?

I just enlisted as a 74D. If I am deployed across seas will I be able to take online classes while deployed. I have heard there is plenty of time to kill on deployment. Also can one take ROTC online.

Is there any option to enlist in the military while in college and continue my education after basic training?

In the Marine Corps there is a 92 Day Reservist Program/IIADT (MARINE CORPS RESERVE INCREMENTAL INITIAL ACTIVE DUTY) that you may enlist. You do most of your training and Reserve Drilling during the summer. It is hard to join the programs and most Recruiters aren't too excited to sign people up into the program because it is requires alot of paperwork. However if you're serious about enlisting, I recommend you inquire with a recruiter concerning this option. Be very firm with your Recruiter about what you want and don't let them get you to settle for other options. If you can not enlist as a 92 Day Reservist, and are still set on joining the military, you may consider the Regular Reserve option. However you may have to postpone a Semester of School as Reservist can be activated for over 6 months on their initial training. Some very specialized MOS (Military Occupational Specialties) can take up to a year to train. You must willing to give that time up as a Reservist, which means postponing school. However if you are determined to becoming a service member this is probably the best route to go. You can continue your schooling after you complete you training. There is one more option to consider, if you are already or going to be pretty soon a Junior in College, you should get more info about the PLC (Platoon Leaders Course for Marine Officers). Becoming an officer is not as easy as becoming an enlisted man, but there are more perks. If you meet the qualifications, I recommend it as the better option. My advice is you speak with a Recruiter and figure out the next steps to joining.http://www.marines.mil/Portals/5...http://www.marines.com/becoming-...

How long do you have to serve in the military to get your college paid for?

The Military Education benefit is considered by many active and reserve service members as one of the most attractive benefits of military service. The education benefit, referred to as the GI Bill, features a number of aspects important to recipients. For a former servicemember to receive certain VA benefits, the person must have active U.S. military service for a minimum period of time, generally the lesser of the full period ordered to active duty or 24 months, and be discharged “under conditions other than dishonorable.” Some members of the National Guard and reserve components have difficulty meeting the active duty and length of service requirements. However, a member of the National Guard or reserve components who is activated for federal military service and meets the length of service requirement is considered a veteran for purposes of VA benefits.

How often does the National Guard get deployed for active duty?

I just retired from the Texas Army National Guard last year with over 30 years of service. Contrary to what others have said on this post. If you want to “Go to the sandbox”, you only have to volunteer. I was mobilized and deployed for 4 “long” (12 month) deployments with two in Iraq. I also went to Iraq for a three month tour, a 6 week visit and a month in Kuwait. This does not count a lot of time mobilized to train up, support training and prepare other units and planning. When My Boys were 10 years old, I had spent half of their lives mobilized.Your Guard unit may only deploy every three to five years, but the Soldiers are often transferred to deploying units. During the height of the war Soldiers were often deployed every other year. If you want to go. Just volunteer to join a unit that is deploying. Your MOS can determine how badly they need you, but there are a lot of generic Soldiers needed by every unit. After you do your first deployment, there is a lot less pressure to go on more deployments, but it is offered as an option.Don’t misunderstand. If the unit needs you and your specialty, they will mobilize and deploy you. It is what you agreed to in your oath.

I have been at college for a couple days and I already want to go home. I am constantly on the verge of tears and can't stop thinking about back home. What should I do? Should I go home?

Venturing out into the real world can be very exciting as well as very scary. While you are now free to make your own choices, you are also overcome with anxiety being in a new place away from everything and everyone you’ve always known. This can be very hard for anyone. However, my advice would be to stick it out and find some things around you to make you feel more at home. Try making new friends, stay connected to your family and friends back home via skype, phone calls, etc., and try to join some clubs or extra-curricular activities. Find some things you enjoy about where you are. Giving up now may set a standard in the future, preventing you from doing things that are uncomfortable for you and you may find that you take less chances in life and lose out on things that can greatly benefit your life moving forward. If after doing all you can you still find that you are not able to stay in college, by all means, try to find a college closer to home. Just remember, you are not the only college student that has felt this way and the rewards for staying may far outreach the rewards for giving up.

How can I make time for college while in the US Army?

This is my second attempt at at answering this without creating a dissertation. In short “If there's a will, there's a way”. I managed to earn an Associates of General Studies and a BS in Health Administration. Don't even fool yourself in thinking that the degrees earned the Ed Center carry the weight of a degree from Stanford. At the time my primary concern was promotion points. I was able to CLEP 42 credit hours and I had the privilege of being sent to Paramedic school. I also had the college evaluate my military education which earned me several BS credits. Anyway, with a few required credits which were all independent study I was able to earn an Associates. This was the early 90s and we weren't near as dependent on the Internet as we are now. After earning my Associate my goal became getting into the Army PA program. I never could get the chemistry requirements that I needed for that. I then focused my efforts to OCS. I wanted to be an MSC or QM officer. Wayland Baptist University offered a Health Admin degree. As others have said, it doesn't come free or easy. The command may sign off on the courses but you are still expected to do your job. In my case I neglected my family in order to do this. I had no free time. By the time I had my OCS packet together I had nine years active service and I also had a Field Grade Article 15 in my past. I didn't get selected. I did make SFC in 10 years.Overall, my degree has been useless even though I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I've made more money swinging a hammer. I did manage to honor my parents and graduate college. My education was practically free as we had tuitional assistance. But in the end, most of what's offered in the Ed Centers is BS and useless in the civilian sector but I still feel that you should take advantage of what you can because at the very least it counts as electives.

How to get a conditional release from the national guard?

Wait a Year, In the mean time go to college to draw your G.I. Bill (I think its about 800 a month for Guard). You get Tuition Assistance (4,500 a year) so you can pocket what you don't use of the G.I. Bill. Get a job working for the school, I work about 2 or 3 hours a day and get 400 a month for it.

After a Year is up you can re-enlist with promotion points from college or finish your degree and get your commission as an 2nd Lt and make twice as much.
