Ice Cold Coffee or Hot Coffee?

WOW!!! WHAT A HARD DECISION...I WOULD HAVE TO SAY ICE COFFEE IN THE SUMMER AND HOT COFFEE IN THE WINTER.....YUMMY.....

How do you make ice coffee?

There are several ways of preparing iced coffee. Ordinary hot-brewed coffee can be served cold, although this may result in a bitter-tasting product. Cold brewing relies on time, rather than heat, to transfer the coffee flavor to the water. In order to achieve this, ground coffee is soaked in water for hours and then filtered. This may be done in any container, such as a mason jar, although commercialized cold brewing systems also exist.[1]

In more recent times it has become common for coffee shops to offer 'iced' versions of their most popular coffee drinks. The iced latte and iced mocha are the two most common examples of this. A quick way of preparing such drinks is to make a small quantity of strong, hot espresso, dissolving the required sweetener/flavorings in the hot liquid and then pouring this directly into a cup of ice cold milk. This method is particularly common in busier coffee shops where rapid customer turnover is required.

Why is iced coffee more expensive than hot coffee?

I was a Barnes & Noble Cafe manager for four years (not technically a Starbucks, but we exclusively brewed Starbucks coffee) and this is why iced is more expensive: Iced coffee is brewed double the strength of regular drip coffee. Ice is added to the pitcher which dilutes the coffee somewhat as it melts, but even so, it takes two cups of ground coffee to produce two liters of iced coffee, whereas it takes one cup of ground coffee to make a whole airpot of brewed drip coffee, which is approximately three liters. So yes, it does cost more to make it, and in general, the retail prices are determined by the cost of ingredients, plus the time spent making the drinks. If it takes three minutes to make a Vivano smoothie, or one to two minutes making a custom Frappuccino, it's going to cost more because you could sell ten or more drip coffees in that time frame. Not that I'm trying to stick up for Starbucks, I just figured maybe this would help clear up some misconceptions.
