Why do some women not wear makeup?

Make-up is not necessary to be beautiful.Make-up is not necessary to be confident.When I was a teen I put on make-up, because I thought it would make me prettier, more desirable and also a bit mysterious.When I was 16 I went on to spend a year abroad as exchange student. 5 months in the USA, 5 months in France.I was confronted with different beauty standards.In the US girls put on a lot of make-up. They looked gorgeous, but also intimidating and fake. When I got to know them better, I often learned that the way they present themselves is very different from the way they truly feel and are.Then I went to France.In France most women weren‘t using any make-up or only used it on special occasions. You could always see their real skin, even if it was flawed. Yet, they were all incredibly graceful, confident and elegant. It‘s their attitude that makes them seem sexy. The way they cater themselves without denying who they are. I found that inspiring.Back in Austria I noticed that most women in my own country put on more make-up than the French. They want to look like they have no make-up on, while still wearing it to improve their looks and fit the beauty standards. I find this „natural“ make-up look so wrong for so many reasons. It‘s deceiving and cowardish in my eyes.Anyways, I lost the motivation to put on make-up. I want to be beautiful, without being flawless. I prefer the French way.It is much more rewarding to befriend that real, unfiltered you in the mirror. No masks, no „improvements“, no regrets.Too many women in this world constantly think about how their looks are perceived, when they could easily live differently and think about more interesting things. They just need to realize:Make-up is not what makes you beautiful.Make-up is not what makes you confident.

Do men like women who wear makeup?For the most part, yes, we do. Or rather, we like it when women wear makeup. Whether or not we like who you are as a person has little to do with makeup.However, I’ve been told, then observed, that most guys don’t know we like it when women wear makeup.When a guy says we like it when girls don’t wear makeup, most of us are probably picturing this.Now, as far as I can tell, this girl has a little makeup around her eyes and lipstick. There’s probably more going on, but I’m not skilled enough to tell you what.Guys are so used to this low-key makeup, many of us think this is what no makeup looks like. We’re so accustomed to eyeliner and such that we don’t consciously realize its there.When many guys think of a girl with heavy makeup, there’s a good chance that something like this is the mental image he has.Now, if you’re into this look, she looks pretty good. Its a lot of makeup, but still well done.You also have a more classical look that’s become popular, with smokey eyes and oxblood lipstick. I’m a big fan of this look for a night out. I especially like a heavy smokey eye if the gal has very light colored eyes. The contrast is intoxicating.You can go super-dramatic too, and still look striking.Seriously, hot damn!Of course, you can go completely off the rails too.But when a guy says he likes girls who don’ wear makeup, chances are that he’s probably not picturing this.Guys are very visual. Straight guys like pretty women, adjusting pretty for local cultural norms. I presume gay men like pretty men, for manly values of pretty. Maybe rugged. I’m not honestly sure.The point is, yes, most guys, knowingly or unknowingly, like it when women wear makeup.Of course, the only reason I know all of this is that I write, and writing requires research. And when I started writing a character who is a fashionista (learned that word too), holy crap were my eyes opened.
