Do You Know A Quote About Work And Society That Say Something Like

Is the Joker's quote from Dark Knight - "If you are good at something never do it for free" against moral sharing ethics?

No.Its perfectly in the domain of "moral sharing ethics" - considering what are your own "moral sharing ethics".It must be understood that if people get something for free - its value decreases in their perception. If they have to slog it out for getting something - they will value it the most - because there is the effort attached to the object. Money is a transitional form of this effort or slogging and hence paying for something makes you associate value with that thing. Human tendency 9 times out of 10 is to milk the most out of everything and when this milk is free we start "not thanking" for it.And hence if you are doing something that you are good at - associate value with it - and don't do it for free. Also - regarding the Joker's ethics themselves:For once, we must understand that the Joker was very ethical - he had his own moral code - and he stuck to it. To explain and understand his code is on another day. But his code is one of the reasons why the character is one of the most powerful in the given context. It is also the reason why he was able gather a loyal set of people to do his dirty work and this is the reason why he was always calm and composed. The problem comes when you try to gauge someone else's ethics under the light of your own moral code. This process doesn't give stark perturbations for normal 'civilized' people because there is a lot of ethic overlap as most people in the world like to wrap themselves to the code of the society they live in so that they can blend in.But with the Joker - you feel this extremely strong difference because his code does not match yours even one bit. His different code is intimidating especially when you see it working in some ways. And hence you choose to say instead that he is not ethical - whereas, he is not ethical according to you - somebody else could think otherwise.

Help with quote or slogan to put on back of National Honor Society (NHS) shirt?

“There's a big world out there. Bigger than prom, bigger than high school, and it won't matter if you were the prom queen or the quarterback of the football team or the biggest nerd. Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it.”
-Unknown

"What was previously perceived as nerdy is now viewed as original. What I like about nerdiness, geekiness, is it doesn't really matter what you're into - it just means you're not a follower."
-Kristen Bell

"I am learning to forgive my inner geek, and even value him as a free man."
-Kenny Loggins

"I'm still a geek on the inside, that's the important thing."
-Al Yankovic

Oh, and this is way too long to fit on a T-shirt, but I just had to include it:

"Michael Jordan having "retired," with $40 million in endorsements, makes $178,100 a day, working or not.
If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head.
If he goes to see a movie, it'll cost him $7.00, but he'll make $18,550 while he's there.
If he decides to have a 5-minute egg, he'll make $618 while boiling it.
He makes $7,415/hr more than minimum wage.
He'll make $3,710 while watching each episode of Friends.
If he wanted to save up for a new Acura NSX ($90,000) it would take him a whole 12 hours.
If someone were to hand him his salary and endorsement money, they would have to do it at the rate of $2.00 every second.
He'll probably pay around $200 for a nice round of golf, but will be reimbursed $33,390 for that round.
Assuming he puts the federal maximum of 15% of his income into a tax deferred account (401k), his contributions will hit the federal cap of $9500 at 8:30 a.m. on January 1st.
If you were given a penny for every 10 dollars he made, you'd be living comfortably at $65,000 a year.
He'll make about $19.60 while watching the 100 meter dash in the Olympics, and about $15,600 during the Boston Marathon.
While the common person is spending about $20 for a meal in his trendy Chicago restaurant, he'll pull in about $5600.
This year, he'll make more than twice as much as all U.S. past presidents for all of their terms combined. Amazing, isn't it?
However...
If Jordan saves 100% of his income for the next 450 years, he'll still have less than Bill Gates has today.
Game over. Nerd wins."

I hope I helped!

Using MLA format to quote?

I've actually been taught by teachers never to isolate quotes if you're writing an interpretive essay. It would work better if you write something along the lines of 'The line, "mighty tree branches fell under their weight," might represent how people and society....'

If the entire paragraph is about the same topic/focus/quote, then quote at the end of the paragraph.

If you plan to use other sources in the same paragraph then I think its okay if you just cite the first one since the reader already knows that the second quote is a fragment of the first.

i hope this makes sense

Can somone please help me interpret what this quote means?

He stands upon his desk to gain differing perspective from his original, since he is looking from another area at his own thoughts. You should look for the alternate meaning in things that may be deeper or more complex. Don't assume you know everything about something unless you understand everyone's point of view on it. Looking at it through the authors eyes is good but, perhaps the auhtor writes to ignite the different thoughts of his readers? To see what they understand from his writing! He wants the readers to not try and understand what he says ( as he has written it on paper) but to think about what it means to the reader. You can reword it or do whatever you want with this. Hope it helps!!!!

Quote : “If you want peace, work for justice.”?

Hi Nicole,

It means that peace is not a given, it has to be worked for. How do we then achieve peace? My guess is that everyone who is able (as in having the means) should do everything to ensure that systems are in place to fight injustice. We do that by remembering that "All it needs for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing." (You could argue about the word 'good' in that sentence.)

When we see that an injustice has taken place it is not enough to say, "Someone should do something about that." We all have the option to make our viewpoint known through letters to the media and peaceful protest to highlight injustices. Sadly, we can't totally rely on our Courts to administer justice as is evident almost every day in the media and TV news.

I remember hearing a story about a woman who was reported as saying to the Court judge, "Your honor, all I want is justice", to which he replied, "Maam, if it's justice you are seeking you will have to go somewhere else, here we administer the Law."

I guess if society (we) could be more tolerant, then that would go a long way towards creating peace.

I want to break free from society..?

There is a circle of natural order. If you want to live an exciting life, you have to chase after it. Excitement can come in the sense that the world around you is being experienced in a way that the typical perspective cannot behold.

For example, I love to give compliments to everyone that I pass on the street. I believe that society is a cold and desolate voice, and the sweetest of compliments can warm the hearts of many people. Whenever I'm walking down the street, I'll give someone a compliment or if I'm at the store- I'll tip the cashier.

Society isn't all that bad. If you do decide to break free from society, realize that it's a very lonely journey. The positive thing about living in such a dull and lifeless society, is that you're living in it with other people.

Please do understand, that many people around you are more than just the eyes can see. You might pass a woman on the road, but you don't know what type of life she lives. Maybe that woman wrestles alligators in her spare time. Haha.

The best thing to do is view the people in society in a spontaneous matter. It makes the world ten times brighter than it is. :)

What does this quote mean?

The idea behind the quote is that every human is a unique and special soul and when you are born you are instantly placed into a system that is designed to turn you into a sheep. You go to school, get a job, get a cozy little house, pay your bills, pay taxes, watch TV (and therefore believe the things presented through tv), act like everyone else, do what your superiors say, and then act like you are free. The thing about our country is it guarantees us a lot of freedoms but restricts freedom of thought as much as possible.

When you submit to all of the things on that list, you are essentially giving yourself up as a slave to the system. A system where the wealthiest 400 individuals have more wealth than the bottom half of America - 150 million people. Our government restricts freedoms by the day, but people continue to let it happen because they are comfortable with their lives. I could go on for days about this, but the main idea behind the quote is that if you simply follow what everyone else is telling you to do, are you truly free? Or are you a pawn?

Wat do these quotes mean?

(1) "accept your genius and say wat you think."

(2) "we aim above the mark to hit the mark."

(3) "imitation is suicide."

(4) "every violation of truth is not only a sort of suicide in the liar, but is a stab at the health of human of human society."

(5) "no one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourself."

What does Thoreau's quote mean: "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation, and go to the grave with the song still in them."

This comes from the first chapter Economy in Walden. Basically, what he says is that men are not enjoying their lives. They do not have any time to look inwards and are constantly living with anxiety and self-doubts. This is because they are always working all the time like machines without any leisure in order to meet their needs. He says meeting basic necessaries of life is sufficient and easy to achieve. It is the greed to want more luxurious and unnecessary things in life is what is causing all the anxiety and leading to quite desperation. He affirms that from his “two years of experience that it would cost incredibly little trouble” to meet basic necessaries of life. For example, he built his home with $28 while his townsmen were spending around $800 to build a house, which according to him would take atleast 15 years to repay.Update: The quote in Economy has only the first part. The part that says "and go to the grave with the song still in them" is probably in some other chapter or essay, which I might not have read. However, with this sentence being added, it sounds more inspirational as his main message is follow your inner light and that is how you should get your living. Even in economy, last part of the chapter touches this subject.
