Do You Know The Term

Do you know what the term "anti-Semitic" means?

I don't care what all these anti-Semites are so busily writing. An anti-Semite is a person who hates Jews. Yes, you might be correct in stating that Arabs are Semites, but that doesn't change the fact that people know the term anti-Semitic means anti-Jewish.

The part I find most hilarious about those who lecture us on this "misuse" is that many of them are the same people who use the term "homophobic". Nobody exhibits an irrational fear of things which are the same, which is what a homophobe would do,.

In other words, we should use words literally and thereby toss "homophobia", or go by well-accepted usage and accept both terms. Which one do you prefer, leftist word police?

What do you know about the term corpus linguistics?

Corpus linguistics is the study of language as expressed in samples (corpora) or "real world" text. The approach runs counter to Noam Chomsky's view that real language is riddled with performance-related errors, thus requiring careful analysis of small speech samples obtained in a highly controlled laboratory setting. Corpus linguistics does away with Chomsky's competence/performance split; adherents believe that reliable language analysis best occurs on field-collected samples, in natural contexts and with minimal experimental interference

Do you know the most correct meaning of these terms?

Now I’ll share what I was taught about these terms and their meaning. I do not mean this to say that my definitions are the best ones. As someone pointed out there are factors other than just defining the characters. The way some of these has been used has changed too.

1) Dan .....does not mean black belt, but “Man” Has to do with the Japanese view that a boy does not become a man until 16 years of age. As I was taught Shodan means “First Man”.

2) Senpai ...... In meant to mean One’s senior. While some people say this only applies to kyu ranks. That was not what I was taught. Someone can be appointed as the Senpai in a dojo. I have a friend that trains in Okinawa since the Viet Nam war. He holds a high masters rank there and is also known as Senpai there.

Long-term/Short-term Relationship... How do you know?

When someone says, "looking for short term relationship", that is a code phrase for someone who wants a one nighter (a.k.a.: sex only).

Four months would a long term relationship to these people, cause they're players.

How do you know if a word is a noun, adjective, or a verb?

A noun is a word that represents a person, thing, or an idea. The easiest way to tell if a word is a noun is to see if it can change in quantity. So, for example, the word chicken is usually a noun. I can have one chicken, some chickens, or many chickens. The word water is usually a noun, too, but we don’t usually count water. Instead, there can be a little water, a lot of water, or way too much water. If you want to see if a word is a noun, then try to change how much of it there is.An adjective is a word that describes a noun. The easiest way to tell an adjective is to see if it can change in intensity. For example, funny and popular are usually adjectives. I can be funny, funnier, or the funniest or popular, more popular, or the most popular. If you want to see if something is an adjective, try adding -er/-est to the word or adding more/most.A verb describes the process that a subject is undergoing. So, a verb might be an action that you can see (The girl kicks the ball) or a more subtle process (The girl is smart) where subject is in the process of being linked to more information about herself. The easiest way to tell if a word is a verb is to see if it can change to a different time or probability. For example, the word is is usually a verb. I can change it to reflect different times or probability like this: the girl is smart, the girl was smart, the girl might be smart, the girl probably will become smart, the girl was never smart, the girl will always be smart.
