Do You Like The Verses Of My Song

Is this a good verse for a love song?

It took me four hours to write this verse. Let me know what you think. I still have a feeling that it could be better. Any suggestions on a better way to phrase or word something? Particularly in the last phrase, it feels like I could have used better words or phrased it better, but i can't figure out how. Also the fourth and fifth phrases have an extra syllable compared to the first and second phrases. This could pose a problem for making a consistent melody. Any suggestions?

I ventured with no plan.
No tricks at my command.
All my efforts yielded only disavowal.
Pronounced gesticulation.
Cajole and adulation.
She would only reply with a sneer or scowl.

Is it common to write a song with just verses?

The typical popular song has a chorus or refrain that occurs in between the verses. I think the perennial popularity of the chorus/refrain is that it gives the listener a sort of anchor. When the chorus comes around the second time, you’ve heard it already so you can do more than just listen; you can now sing along if you like, deepening your relationship with the song. You can certainly find many popular songs that have only verses. Here are a couple just off the top of my head:“Man of Constant Sorrow” - Soggy Bottom Boys from the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Actually, this does have a distinctly Bluegrass version of the refrain, which just echoes the last line of the preceding verse.)“On the Turning Away” - Pink Floyd, Momentary Lapse Of ReasonSo there are plenty of songs with verses and no chorus/refrain. It’s just that they tend to be the exception rather than the rule.

What is your favorite verse from a song? Why do you like it?

“When you try your best but you don't succeedWhen you get what you want but not what you needWhen you feel so tired but you can't sleepStuck in reverse”This is the opening verse of ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay. Fix you isn’t just a song for me, it’s a tapestry of words woven by music that has the power to comfort me and relieve me. Fix you is chicken soup for my soul. The reason behind me loving that verse is because it tells me that failure is normal. Ever since I was a kid, I couldn’t ever really take failure well. It took me a lot of failures and a really long time to get acquainted with it. The verse goes to show that sometimes, failure is inevitable, even if you give it all your best. We try so hard to not fail that we are haunted by it. We lose sleep over it. We sacrifice our health over it.And I like to believe that each and every one of us is guilty of this. Whenever I’m blue, this song offers me someone that can relate to my problems. There is another verse that is my favourite but it’s so for different reasons. This verse is my favourite because it motivates me to strive harder but its not to attain money or be successful. It is to make me work harder to relieve myself from the constraints of society that emphasize on the importance of earning money . This verse encourages me to do what I love and not waste a single minute because life is really really short. No one understands how short life really is until it’s too late. They realise it, when their life is about to end. It’s like that dialogue from Shawshank Redemption, “Get busy living or get busy dying.”“And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinkingRacing around to come up behind you againThe sun is the same in a relative way, but you're olderShorter of breath and one day closer to death” - Time by Pink Floyd

How Can You Tell the Chorus, Verse, Bridge in a Song?

Basically:-

Chorus - The main part of the song. Should be like a summary of what the song is about. It also should be where the guitarist puts in most of his energy. This does not change through out the song

Verse - Songs are broken up into paragraphs, also called verses. The verse is never the same and its talks about the meaning of the song a little bit.

Bridge - This always come before the chorous. Some times it is part of it. The guitarist can also put most of his energy in this part. A limit of only one line can be changed in this part
