Do You Like Typical Christmas Music

Do INTJs typically hate Christmas (mainly because of the songs, cheeriness and people)?

Hate Christmas?! What kind of monster hates Christmas? Not this monster!OK, so I’ll admit that I’m not very good at Christmas. I was really fortunate during my marriage, because my wife was very good at Christmas. No kidding. The kids always had lots of presents—that they liked—and the house was very festive and cheerful. Susan did a superb job, and I was very lucky to have her. Susan took the lead on the family traditions and made sure that the entire season was special. Neither the kids nor I ever gave her enough credit for everything she did. She was an excellent wife and mother.I enjoy Christmas, but I tend to be thoughtless and bumbling about it. I’m kind of like an eleven year old kid. If you’re good with that, I’m your guy.If not, there’s a pretty good chance that I’m going to hurt your feelings. That Unmistakable Hint you gave me about what you want for Christmas? Pretty good chance I missed it. That thing that I think you’d like for Christmas?Nope.Like I said. Instincts of an eleven year old.But like an eleven year old, I really enjoy the season. I love getting a tree, and trimming it. I love decorating the house. I enjoy buying laughably bad presents.I’m not a fan of Christmas music, which is vapid. But I can take it in low doses. So maybe we INTJs are not very good at Christmas. Maybe our death stare makes people think we are miserable. Maybe we are clueless about what our loved ones actually want for Christmas. And don’t get me started about how clueless we are around mistletoe.I wouldn’t kiss you if a tree of mistletoe fell on me. Not because I don’t like kissing. Mmmmm…I love kissing. I’m just clueless. But ho ho ho. I love Christmas.

Is it OK to listen to Christmas music all year round?

I thought I was the only one who loved Christmas music all year round. My favorite Christmas as song is, "So this is Christmas."

When Do You Stop listening to Christmas music?

What musical characteristics define Christmas songs?

This is interesting as several ‘Christmas’ songs don’t actually mention it. Notable for this are Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, and Winter Wonderland, which are all about winter, but not specifically, Christmas.Adding sleigh bells instantly makes a song sound christmassy, and these are heard frequently for no musical reason. Use of musical themes which link the song to classical Christmas references, or carols also help. Mike Oldfield used this on In Dulci Jubilo/On Horseback.Obviously mentioning Christmas helps, but as above, many don’t. So including snow, cold, or winter adds a christmasness to a song. Some songs include references to Christmas, such as Jona Lewie’s Stop the Cavalry, which isn’t really a Christmas song but includes a reference so manages to get onto the Christmas - which I’m sure Mr Lewie appreciates as it must have kept him in tinsel for the past four decades.A few songs have managed to get a Christmas appeal with no musical or lyrical references whatsoever. By clever use of video Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power of Love, and E17’s Stay Another Day both get played every year, but have nothing to do with Christmas. So there are musical, lyrical and visual references which can all be used individually or together to create a Christmas feel to a song. While a hit song may get played for a few years after its chart debut, even a minor Christmas song can be played for decades, and the revenue is potentially huge.

What are the most common instruments used in Christmas music?

Aside from whatever keyboard instrument is in use to accompany whatever vocalist or choir is singing, the brass section is probably the most iconic group of instruments to be used in Christmas music. While bells would be a very close contestant, I’d maintain that the brass may be even more emblematic and probably more common. The reason is somewhat religious in nature. Although the angel Gabriel is never pictured in Scripture as playing trumpet, per se, either in the Annuciation recorded in Luke: 1:26–38 or elsewhere, his role as the Messenger of the Lord seems to have been instrumental in his association with the instrument as a herald. This connection is so engrained, the idea was even the basis for the wonderful Twilight Zone episode “Passage for a Trumpet”, starring the late Jack Klugman:The antiphonal brass utilized in the Roman Catholic Church, brass ensembles popularized by the Salvation Army, and other groups helped to reinforce this as did the popular, but extra-Biblical (as far as angels playing brass on Christmas Eve is concerned), depictions in art of angels with trumpets and other brass instruments. The beautiful thing about Christmas music, however, is that almost any instrument is welcome to the celebration. I’ve always appreciated this.

What Raleigh area radio station is playing Christmas music?

I know there are some stations that play Christmas music about halfway through November and it's almost that time of year, so I was wondering if anyone knows any radio stations I can pick up at NC State University that are playing Christmas music. I'd prefer 24/7 Christmas music, but if they're playing at least some Christmas music, I'd really like to know about them! Thank you.
