What is your belief about naming children inspired by characters?

My mother is named Pamela. That name was created by the author of the first English-language novel—a moral tale about an under-stairs type who’s given the name by her uneducated family. It’s supposed to sound absurd: clunky and artificially fancy, the kind of thing that unpolished and impoverished people would think is beautiful.Well, the readership thought it was beautiful and now it’s just a name like any other. (But my mother hates it and has truncated her name to Mela.)Luna was actually a popular name in the US in the early 1900s, according to US census data. It’s also a not-uncommon surname in Spanish-speaking countries. There’s a lovely textile company called Luna that I’ve specified. There’s the Luna moth. It’s common and versatile enough that, even if your tastes change in the future, it won’t be as if you saddled yourself with a bizarre name. The only barrier I can see is whether you would feel embarrassed when people teased you or just asked you about it. Any name that comes from pop culture will draw people’s attention, and they will awkwardly try to make conversation about it. That is going to happen for the rest of your life if you are renamed Luna. If you’re comfortable with that, go for it!Now, if you were a Richard Adams fan and wanted to be named Thethuthinnang, that’d be a problem.

Who is the most inspirational character in the Harry Potter series, and why?

Neville LongbottomHe grew up with his old, batty grandmother who was always wishful of having a worthier grandson.Entering Hogwarts as a clumsy kid he was ridiculed for his sub-par magical skills and was constantly bullied by Snape and Malfoy. The absence of parental love made him feel lost and hit his confidence. He had a keen interest in Herbology which give you the opinjon that he liked subjects which were mild. You would feel a surge of warmth in your heart when the points he earned from Dumbledore in his first year enable Gryffindor win the house cup. But,as the series progresses you get to see the character of Neville coming into a form of it's own.He shows courage and perseverance and becomes a important member of Dumbledore's Army.He is described to be the most hardworking of all the members. He fights along with Harry in all the major battles and also keeps the spirit of the people intact when Hogwarts was under the tyrannical rule of the Carrows. At the end of the battle, when people are under the assumption that Harry was no more,Voldemort offers him a chance  and asks him to become a death eater,he shows his loyalty to Harry and Dumbledore's army.Because of his tremendous bravery shown on the battlefield, Neville was able to pull Godric Gryffindor's sword from the burning hat, in the process proving himself to be a true Gryffindor, something that was doubted constantly throughout due to his apparently  shy and accident prone behaviour. In a single stroke, he killed Nagini, destroying Voldemort's last remaining Horcrux. He proves that the shaping of destiny is all on the individual.Sometimes,I wonder if Neville was the most underrated character in the book. He was the 'not chosen one' and you could write a separate novel looking at things through his point of view.I am sure that if JKR planned to write Harry Potter  in a narrator's POV it would definitely be in the words of Neville. He is what most people would be like in the real world, a person capable of heroic feats under dire circumstances, but not inclined to them every waking moment. Neville understands that it’s not about being aggressive every day, it’s about choosing your battles and knowing what’s worth fighting for.

Does Rocky seem do be an inspirational character? If so how?

Rocky is an underdog thru Rocky II, and really he started out as a low-class boxer in Philadelphia. But as we see his progress and advancement to triumph, it makes us feel that there hope when we need it and the drive to help us reach our goals.

Is Barney Stinson's character in "How I Met Your Mother" inspired from Friends' Chandler Bing?

Even naming them in a sentence doesn’t seem right. Their personalities are poles apart.Suit: Chandler finds it hard to sport a tux. Barney lives for a suit.Women: Chandler is uncomfortable around women. Barney is pretty much comfortable around them, on top of them, under them, behind them…Wit: Chandler’s humor is his strength and sarcasm is his weapon of choice. Barney is a charismatic d-bag and indulges in sexist puns.Bro Code: Chandler has a habit of breaking the Bro Code. Barney wrote the Bro Code.Relationships: Chandler had kissed over 4 women before Mondler happened. Barney slept with more than 4 in a single night.

Naming a child after a fictional character?

I would do it. At the end of the day there are worse ways to name your children. I mean people name each of their children with the same first letter so they have no originality. If you like names from books or movies then how is it any different. I love Isabella from Twilight. I also love Jasper and Rosalie and Esme and Renee. I also love Primrose from hunger games. I love Bonnie and Elena which are characters in The Vampire Diaries. i read a book and fell in love with the main characters name called Priya. I don't think it's bad but sometimes i think that some are bad like Katniss is unusual and i don't like it but im sure there will be many little girls called Katniss in 2024 or 2034 haha

If you were to name your child after a fictional character, which character would you choose?

My wife and I named our daughter Antonia after the character in Willa Cather’s “My Antonia”. We wanted a name that would combine both Greek and Bohemian cultures. We wanted a name that would fit our new little daughter, that by all evidence of her strong movements in the womb, was going to arrive on the scene full of strength and fortitude. The fictional character is the epitome of the human ability to adapt, survive and flourish. Antonia is a very well crafted female character, and perhaps the best crafted female character I have ever experienced, even though we never directly see her experiences; Her life is described to us through a male character. The book had a large impact on me when I read it as a teenager. My daughter is nearly 16 now. I don't think she has ever been embarrassed by the name. I still love Willa Cather and the character she created. I am not embarrassed by my pick either, even though it could be seen as superficial or as an annoying attempt to choose an intellectual name. The choice for me was at least a declaration of hope for myself: I hoped for the ability to help form a life that aspired to the qualities and values of a character I greatly admired in fiction. I hoped to be able to eschew my innate misogyny, learned from my society and upbringing, so that I might not get in the way of the development a beautiful, strong, smart woman who would be unfolding before me.I am very proud of my Antonia and the person she is becoming day by day. She is more than a fiction. She is more than I could have ever imagined when I chose the name.

When you write fiction, do you ever avoid character names ending in the letter "s" so as to avoid creating grammarian thought distractions regarding plurals and possessives?

I don’t see how that’s necessary. Pick a convention (i.e., either use “Harris’ “ as the possessive for Harris, or “Harris’s” as the possessive for Harris) use it consistently, and stick to it. There are enough other words in the English language that end in “s” that you may have to make a possessive out of that you’ll most likely need to pick a convention anyway.Your readers will figure it out, and if you end up working with an editor who absolutely insists that it be the other way, as long as you were consistent to begin with, they’re easy enough to track down using Find and Replace.
