Do You Need Experience To Foster Cats

Anyone have experience with pyometra in cats?

**I am a responsible pet owner....I am working with some very highly respectable breeders, not to mention one is a vet, with sphynx cats. So I was trying to do what i thought was best for the cat, she is 8 months old and of GREAT bloodlines. But i will do what is best for the cat, if that means spay her then so be it. Thanks for all the replies, besides the rude comment, they were greatly appreciated!

I'm about to adopt a kitten, can someone with experience help me? I have had pets previously, but never a cat. The kitten is currently a week old.

In addition to the other excellent answers, I recommend that you get 2 kittens and not just one. They will play with each other and this will help them while you are at work.Do NOT get them declawed, even if your vet will do it. Declawing is amputating the first joint on each “finger” and if you do this, they will never be able to go outside. Even if you don’t intend to let them out now, you may move to somewhere in the country where they will be able to enjoy the outdoors.DO plan on getting them neutered when they are old enough. There are already too many cats in the world, so many of them get euthanized. And for the males, getting them neutered will prevent fights and cut down on marking their territory (which they do by spraying urine).Good luck and enjoy the little ones!

Should I foster a cat or adopt?

Had I known how my Hobbes would come to love chewing on cables and nipping us to keep us in line, become the chicken-est cat in the world, not be able to meow properly to save his life (he chirrups and when he does meow instead, which is rare, he sounds like a 4 month old kitten) and will only consent to being held for 10 seconds before bolting - I would probably have gone for a different kitten. But if you told me to trade Hobbes for another cat now, I would tell you to go suck it. He’s family. It does sound like you’re looking for a well tempered, well mannered cat though and your best bet is a kitten that was brought up with human care, handled and loved by humans as soon as it was possible to do so up until four months. These are formative times for cats and if they haven’t gotten used to human contact, handling and scent by four months, they’re very likely not going to be able to form a complete trust of any humans thereafter. Even so, that doesn’t mean that they then can’t learn to live around humans but they definitely won’t become the lap kitty that people yearn for.So it looks like adoption is what you’ll want - unless you’re sure about the cat from the shelter.

What are some ways to foster a cat?

It’s pretty easy. Contact your local animal shelter. There are so many cats that don’t do well in a shelter, who need to have a foster home while they wait to be adopted. It’s a vital service, very rewarding, and I wish more people were willing to do it. And don’t worry, they aren’t going to give you anything you can’t handle as long as you are open and honest about your experience with cats.

Will fostering kittens have a negative effect on my resident cats?

Hi, im really interested in fostering cats and kittens, I waanted to know if anyone thought that this could be bad for my resident kittens, in the sense of if i have these kittens for 8 weeks or whatever the term may be, my 2 cats could get really attached too them. Will it make them sad everytime i have to give the fostered kittens back? does anyone have any experience with this? im guessing im just looking for re assurance

How do I apply or train to foster a tiger cub?

In the future I would like to foster tiger cubs until they are old enough to go to zoos or what-have-you. My best guess is zoos or a wildlife preservation. I would hopefully like to get on the list to do this, but I know that I would need training & permits. (And LOTS of space!) Anyone know where I should start?
