Do You Need To Be 18 To Buy Bullets

How old do you have to be to buy .22 bullets?

I stand corrected, and I was terribly wrong. Please forgive me, I do apologize.

I spoke too quickly and out of turn, as has been pointed out below.

Mandatory minimum age is 18 for .22 bullets for a long rifle, and hand-gun ammunition mandatory minimum age is 21, be it for a .22 handgun or otherwise.

Do you have to be 18 to buy pellets (bullets) in CA?

yep.
paintball, airsoft BBs, airgun pellets, airgun BBs, and live rifle ammo in California are all the same- you need to be18 to buy them. if you buy handgun ammo you gotta be 21. on top of that, some websites won't sell you any ammo- firearms or airgun if you're under 21.
however that's just point of purchase, its not illegal to possess airgun ammo (any kind) if you're under 18 unless there's a specific local law that makes it illegal. if you're under 18 and you need to buy some airgun ammo just have your parents or some dude on the street buy it for you. For firearm ammo that's a different thing entirely.

How old do you have to be to buy bullets in PA ?

Some places are funny about selling ammunition to people under 21. Many places have a policy not to sell handgun ammo to anyone under 21 because that is the legal age to purchase one. I don't know what they do when a 19 year-old wants to buy .22 ammo though.

Do you really need to be 18 to buy 9mm ammo? lol idk its just annoying?

At Walmart and at most other dealters that I have noticed, you have to be 21 to buy 9mm ammo and you need to be 18 to buy .22lr.

From http://www.nraila.org/gunlaws/federal/re...
"It is unlawful for any licensed importer, dealer, manufacturer or collector to transfer shotgun or rifle ammunition to anyone under the age of 18, or any handgun ammunition to anyone under the age of 21."

Note that it does not say what the buyer intends to use it for (handgun vs carbine), but how the ammo is classified. 9mm is primarily a handgun ammo probably even states on the box "9mm pistol ammunition". The laws seems to be a little fuzzy when it comes to handguns vs carbines, but most retailers err on the side of caution with it comes to federal firearm laws.

Can underage people buy bullets in the U.S.?

The federal minimum age to purchase arms or ammo is 18 for long guns, 21 for handguns. You will be carded it you appear to be youthful. There is no minimum age for possession of long guns, and it was accepted practice when and where I grew up to gift your teenager with a .22 rifle, and it was OK for him to take it to the woods and shoot, once the adults in question were convinced he could be trusted.Unsupervised possession of handguns under 21 is generally not legal, but there are exceptions.A running point of amusement was a constable in the next town who had graduated the police academy at 19. His mother had to buy his ammo for him. :)

Do you have to be 18 to buy muzzleloader bullets in Minnesota?

It's a chunk of lead. There are no laws against you having small chunks of lead. Doesn't matter what it's molded in the shape of, it's a chunk of lead. Totally legal to have. Make an earring out of one if you want. It's not a cartridge and it's not a firearm.

Do you need anything special to buy ammo/bullets at a local store?

Why are you asking so many questions about it being recorded by the government...you seem overily interested in that detail. Would it be because you're doing something illegal??? Are you a murderer??

Do you need to have a gun permit to buy ammunition? Or more specifically, do you have to prove that you have a registered firearm for the ammunition you're purchasing?

Generally no. Just like if you want to buy say a 1000 rolls of toilet paper cause it’s a good sale you don’t have to prove you have a toilet. You can buy a set of rims for a BMW without proving you have a BMW, although to actually use then do to bolt patterns and sizes you might need a BMW to be able to use then. You can buy Muriatic acid without proving you have a pool. There are certain types of ammo that are restricted such as armo piercing. But for standard full metal jacket or hollow points that would be no you don’t have to have any permit although they shall generally check your ID.Now California did just change in Jan 1st 2018 that you can’t buy ammo in line anymore and have it shipped to your home anymore. It has to be shipped to an FFL, not all FFL’s even do that and the ones that do can charge whatever they want for their service. Some online places stopped dealing with Ca. because of that. That law does not cut down on crime in any way. What it does do is make it more inconvenient for the law abiding gun owners that now can’t save money by using bulk online prices. That adds up as many of us go through 500–1000 rounds a month for practice. There is talk about ammo licenses and even quantity restrictions. Of course neither shall cut down on crime in any way. In fact quantity restrictions might create a new blackmarket to make criminals out of law abiding citizens.

Can you buy 22lr ammo at 18?

I was told that you cannot buy pistol callibre ammunition if you are under the age of 21 (which sucks because I was given a pistol as a present from a family member and have to ask someone to buy me pistol ammo which is ackward "hey could you buy me bullets that I would otherwise not be able to purchase legally" lol) and was thinking about getting a ruger 10/22 or even a ruger mkII to get cheaper ammo to go plinking with some buddies but was wondering would I be able to purchase 22lr ammunition, or is it classified as handgun ammunition. Oh, and another question, is it legal to have other people buy me pistol ammo (pretty sure it is, but might as well double check while Im here). Thanks! Oh, and is there a 22lr that you would reccomend to me (either cc-pistol for when I get a cc-permit, or anything else I suppose lol). Thanks in advance!
