Do You Need To Use Heavy Weights When Doing Leg/thigh Exercises To Lose Lower Body Fat

Will jogging for 30min help me lose thigh fat?

Personally I would run 40-60 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week. Then mix in some lunges, stairs, roman chair, leg raises, etc. for 20 minutes on your off days that you don't run. This should give you the desired loss of fat from your legs. Moreover, it should help frame up the rest of you as well if you combine in a bunch of core exercises to work the rest of your body.

But combined with exercise you also need to work on dieting. Not dieting per se to lose weight, but dieting to cut out fat. That way your body will be fat seeking when it starts trying to burn extra calories. It will always look for what you have in your stomach first, then it seek muscle and fat to burn. If you give it the appropriate levels on a nutritional basis, your fat should burn off.

And, of course, when you stop losing body fat, change up the diet and the workout plan. One thing about the diet is this..... eat as many vegetables as you wish and as much fruit as you wish (as long as it doesn't exceeed the vegetable intake). In addition, water, water, water. Don't starve yourself either. But eat low calorie snacks whenever possible. One of my favorites besides fruit is low calorie, low fat animal crackers. Still taste good and not bad for you either. You have to fuel the fire if you want to trim those legs.

Good luck!

Can you target weight loss to upper body only?

When you do upper body muscle training you will burn more fat and calories in this area. Try lifting weights doing upper body exercises. Concentrate on using weights that are challenging, but not too heavy b/c you want to do higher number of quick reps to keep your heart rate up. Push ups and pull ups are great exercises, even if you must modify and do them on your knees and standing on a box/chair. Bottom line is the best way to decrease any area of fat is cardio with some weights specifically focused on those area. checkout the fitness magazine website they have specific things for specific body types.

How to get thigh gap/ thinner thighs?

You have to STOP working out your legs with resistance training. Squats and lunges and the like are Not your friend. I know, when you are used to working out not being able to do these things feels like you aren't doing any work, but you have to stop building the muscles and focus on leaning them out by losing the fat.

Next, thinner thighs is 80% diet, so what are you eating? Are you eating healthy?

What is eating healthy?
I suggest you figure out exactly how many calories you need to eat. You can over eat with healthy foods and being in a calorie deficit is tantamount to losing fat -

See article here on figuring that out

On top of that, you have to cut down on your carbs, dairy and sugar because they are calorie dense - meaning a little bit of these things pack a huge amount of calories. Plus, carbs have been proven to be addictive and lead to cravings for more sugary/carby foods.

Next, cardio is great for losing fat and you're doing it with cross country and track but whenever you feel a burn you are breaking down the muscles and when they repair, they will get bigger. Also, if you are running for longer and longer distances or faster each time, you're breaking down the muscles which once they heal (and if you feed it with protein drinks after working out) they will build.

Since you want streamlined, thin legs you need to focus on getting the heart rate up but skip the high incline/resistance level or it becomes resistance training. One trick (from the book 'The Thigh Gap Hack (google it) is that you should have weight training but only on the upper body (legs, shoulders, back, abs) and incorporate cardio type movement on the lower body (side kicks, front kicks, knee ups) at the same time. By doing this you will maintain muscle which will increase and/or keep your metabolism humming along swimmingly, meanwhile increasing your heart rate and burning more calories without creating muscles on the lower body.

Listen, there's tooooo much to cover but start with these tips and you will be well on your way.

Are leg press and leg curl machines used to thin legs?

Yes you can, provided you use the correct exercise regimen with them.Do Legs using these machines not more than twice a week, each session separated by at least 72 hours.Stick to lower weights (with which you can manage the prescribed reps) and higher reps (around 15+ - Start with higher reps say 25, and do the last set with 15 reps, use only that much weight with which you can manage the target reps for that set)Always do Leg Presses before Leg Curls so that you do not tire your quads before presses. For leaning the legs, especially when you are female, you won’t require much effort unlike men. Due to lower testosterone levels in females, you are naturally geared towards forming curves rather than growing muscles significantly. If you have a lot of fat deposition on your legs, exercising on these machines will very marginally help you. You will then need to resort to doing cardio to lose the fat, because spot reduction doesn’t work mostly.
