Do You Think Charlie Strong Will Turn Around The Texas Longhorns

How will Charlie Strong's arrival at Texas affect the 2014 recruiting class?

The University of Texas usually gets a lot of the best Texas recruits. It's been that way awhile. There's so many high schools to choose from. Mack Brown didn't recruit RG3, Johnny Manziel, or Jameis Winston to play QB. They wanted to play there. If Charlie Strong can at least get one or two guys like that, the 2014 class should again be top five. There's still plenty of time before signing date. I think Charlie Strong is a good hire.Baylor coach Art Briles should have been their first choice. He's a Texan. He knows all the high school coaches. I think he would have gone.

What is wrong with Texas Longhorns?

Winning is a habit; so is losing. As a friend, golfing buddy and neighbor (Barton Creek) of legendary Darrell Royal, I can tell y’all that he retired (from coaching) at age 51 because he saw no National Championship (won 3) in sight, not even a SW conf champ. He decided to go out on top, as a legend. Few realize that Fred Akers had the best winning percentage over the next 10 yrs among all college coaches but no Ntl Champs. Darrell told me he could go out as a legend (true) at 51—-I retired at age 51 also—-or he had to win another Ntl Champ in next 3–4 yrs and did not see that happening. He wanted Mike Campbell to replace him but UT went to Wyoming and Akers, a former UT asst coach. DKR sort of removed himself the Univ for awhile. Texas is one of the 5–6 great football programs in the USA and a top coaching job but Austinites are accustomed to winning, 9–3 is not acceptable. Everyone loves Charlie Strong and maybe next year would have been “his year” but at $5++ million/yr, alumni and regents expect a much better record than 16–20. They are paying him $10 million to buyout his 2 yrs remaining on 5 yr contract and $2.7 million to pay for Tom Herman’s buyout clause at Univ of Houston. Great talent returning and maybe Charlie would be 13–0 or 10–3 at worst but if not? another year wasted. I wish he could remain as DC under Herman who is an offensive genius (Stronsg is great def guy) but he’ll have many offers if he eben wants them, obviously he could retire.

Who will hire Charlie Strong?

I think he’ll go back to being a defensive coordinator at least for a couple years. He was just too unsuccessful at Texas to get another shot immediately. Yes, you can argue that there were structural factors at Texas that really hurt him and yes, he was a great head coach at Louisville…but he had three straight losing seasons at one of the most desirable jobs in the country; it’s hard to sell that to a fanbase as your new head coach. So it’s likely that he’ll be an assistant somewhere for 2–3 years, rebuild his reputation, then try to land another mid-tier head coaching job.One name to watch out for in his immediate future - Ohio State. Two reasons:1.) He has a long history with Urban Meyer, having been DC at Florida for six years (including both the 2006 and 2008 title teams). That familiarity has a lot of value in coaching circles.2.) Ohio State is likely to have openings on the defensive staff after this year - several of the assistants have interviewed for jobs before and are likely to again. Most notably, Ohio State’s current DC, Greg Schiano, is likely to get another shot as a head coach given his phenomenal success at Rutgers, NFL experience (even if it didn’t go well), and the incredible job he did with OSU’s young secondary this year (replacing 3 NFL players with brand new starters; secondary has been one of the best in the country). Thanks for the A2A.

How do UT Austin students feel about Charlie Strong being let go after 3 seasons?

Tom Herman is now the head coach and Austin is happy. The vast majority of the players especially those returning are upset. While an alumni and a former UT athlete, I can not speak for the 50,000 + student body; I imagine the non-athlete students are probably split. Everyone loves Charlie as much as they did David McWilliams but the head coach job at Texas may be the most demanding one in the USA. Even at Notre Dame, a coach would probably be given a 4th year. UT is paying Charlie $10 million for remaining 2 yrs of his contract and $2.7 million to buy out Tom Herman’s contract at UH. So before, paying new coach, they are paying almost $13 million to make the change. They (admin.) had made decision 2–3 weeks ago so was sort of unfair to Coach Strong and to the players.Austin—UT may be the toughest place to be head coach but it does come with big bucks!! Only Ohio St, Mi, ND, USC may be in same league as far as coaching positions go.

Why did the Arizona Cardinals Hire Kliff Kingsbury as Head coach and What Happened at Texas Tech?

There's a great article on the Sports Illustrated site about this:https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/01/1...The long and the short of it is that Steve Keim was looking at hiring Sean McVay a few years ago to succeed Bruce Arians. But then Arians decided not to retire, and the Cardinals missed the McVay boat. In Kingsbury, Keim thinks he's found a guy with the same key qualities as McVay.The story of how Keim came to hire Steve Wilks falls into the category of "unconventional" (Wilks saw Keim sitting on a beach, came over and introduced himself, and the two guys got to talking....) Certainly that decision can only be called a disaster, one that puts in question Keim's job security. One might well think, "What the hell are you doing making another unconventional hire? If you'd gone after Mike McCarthy, maybe you don't win a Super Bowl, but you certainly wouldn't be at risk of losing your job in the next two years." I think it was a pretty brave decision on Keim's part to go with Kingsbury.Keim has done a pretty good job as GM of this team, Wilks hire notwithstanding. Their 13-3 record in 2015 was their best record in 90 years (11-2-1 in 1925 was better by 1%), and they hadn't had a three year run of 10+ win seasons since Don Coryell was coaching them in the 1970's. I personally am skeptical about Kingsbury working out. I really question whether somebody with such a short coaching resume can succeed in the NFL. (I would add this question: do we really know if McVay has been successful, as in, the Rams have done better with McVay than they would have with someone else? There's a ton of talent on that team, I think it's a little early to be singing McVay's praises.) If I'm Bill Bidwell, though, I'd be trusting my GM for another couple of years. Thanks for the A2A!

What are some slang terms used among police officers?

The most derogatory terms for the bad guys and citizens who are just pains in the rectum:A.H. = Adam Henry (A-dam H-enry) If you don’t get it…..sometimes you will hear it as “Jack Hole”…..now what starts with an “A” that ends with HOLE ?RICHARD CRANIUM= What starts with a “D” and is a nickname for Richard ? What is the non-medical layman’s term for the Cranium ? Do these clues HEAD you in the right direction ?

Why wasn't Tom Herman able to bring in a higher-ranked recruiting class in his first year at Texas (2017)?

Many of the top recruits from the state of Texas this year committed earlier than normal and a surprising amount enrolled early.Ohio State took 3 of the top 6 recruits from Texas and all three enrolled in early January. Several other Top-10 Texas recruits committed all the way back in summer 2016 or earlier. So it just wasn’t the right timeline for Tom Herman, hired in mid-December, to grab in-state guys because Texas was already out of the running. And since Texas’ recruiting has historically thrived on in-state talent, their recruiting class was bound to be mediocre with all those options off the table. For new coaches, the real test is their second recruiting class. In fact, many coaches actually sort of ‘jump right ahead’ and work on their second year’s class even during their first recruiting cycle since they know their ability to salvage their first class will be limited. If Herman’s 2018 class isn’t in the Top 5 to 10, that’s when you really should start worrying.
