My dream is to attend the U. It is such a wonderful place. I have visited the campus and gone to their open house. Walking through campus feels like you are at a resort. Palm trees are everywhere, the lake is gorgeous and has jumping fish, there are exotic animal noises coming from the bushes that make it very serene. The academics are awesome. They are #1 in FL and #47 in the nation. Attending any top 50 school is surely going to allow you to go far in life. The diversity is the best in the nation. They have alumni from 150 countries and all 50 states. The one professor talked to us and told us that in his class two weeks ago (the open house was last Sunday) there were students from all over the US, plus Australia, China, Pakistan, Brazil, Colombia & Venezuela, all talking about world issues. You can't find that anywhere else. The weather is also a plus!! 80 degrees and sunny everyday. They have a huge outdoor pool that is free of charge to students. Being in Miami is also a plus. You have the city and all of its culture at your fingertips. On weekends you can spend time in Coconut Grove or the world famous South Beach and see all the celebrities. Bring your homework there and relax under a palm tree! Honestly, the price is the only negative, but they are extremely generous with scholarships (average $22,000). Don't let that scare you away. Now that I am done ranting about how great the school is I'll give you some stats to compare yourself to. 78% of the incoming freshmen class had a GPA of 3.75 or higher. You are very close. Take perhaps an extra honors class next year to boost that up? 51% of students had an ACT of 30-36. 46% had 24-29. I heard they look for an average of 28-32. If you are in that range, you are good. With SAT scores, they only look at math and critical reading, not writing. So if you see a stat that has an average score of say 1200, don't think the students are dumb. That's what I thought the first time haha. For reading you want anywhere from a 590-680, give or take a little. For math, a 620-700. As long as you write a killer essay, have awesome teacher recommendations, and have strong extracurriculars and volunteer work, you should be good! Overall, definitely apply to Miami. Don't let tuition discourage you! It is such a wonderful place. Visit there if you can. I am a junior too so maybe I will see you there in 2 years. GO CANES!!

My daughter got in two years ago. The biggest thing I think that helped her was to get to know your department head -- she was in music - very competitive degree program. If UM was going to be anywhere that we could go and just show her face to the department head - we were there. They need to get to know YOU in person not just you on paper. Hope this makes sense. Stay focused, be serious about your dream and it will show. Your GPA and SAT look OK - but today that is not everything! Clubs, community work, even degree camps - like Theatre camp, Tennis camp, whatever your major is. And, the university is private and $35,000 won't cut it!!!! Try for as many scholarships as possible - your parents will thank you! For my daughter's degree plan, they had a set number of students that they allowed in the program. So when a senior graduated that made space for one freshman the next year. The year she applied, only 10 slots were available - nationwide. There were over 500 applicants and she secured one of those 10 slots, her GPA was not awesome and her SAT was not awesome, but her determination and her drive were! Plus she was only one of two females accepted out of the ten students. We were elated!!!! Best of luck, get out there and show your face. Set up a personal interview to visit the university department head. Make sure your photo is on your resume so they can match you up with your paperwork - trust me it works. We got our other daughter into the University of Texas the same way! Another thought - if you don't make it the first year, you can always transfer in! Have fun in high school and best of luck!

The University of Miami has changed over the years …. It was at one time called the Cardboard school due to the original buildings built in the late 1920s and early 30s were not well constructed. Also the school was known as both a playboy school and for basket weaving LOL. However in the 1950s it became the first university either private or public to have a school of Medicine and Law in the State of Florida.The university embarked on a program to reshape itself and its image. When I attended the university in the early 1970s to mid 1970s the school made great strides by getting top quality professors and established new programs.Now I have both a BBA and MBA from the university and I was one of the few that was in the initial class the took the School of Business for the Graduate program out of the Graduate School and set up its own Undergraduate and Graduate college. We had a Dean that came from the University of Washington (State) that completely rewrote the what was taught.I was also very fortunate to know several professors who allowed me to do independent studies and research. Two of them were in the School of Law and as both an undergrad and grad let me take law classes as part of my studies.The University of Miami today is one of the top private universities in the US although not like the Ivy league schools but has a worldwide standing. It is known for its schools of Law, Medicine and Business.In summary a university is only as good as what you as a student put into it with your studies. It is you that count not the name of the university or college where you attend. My children attended other universities due to the programs they offered.Many fine graduates from around the world have made names for themselves that attended the University of Miami. The university itself is still on a program of changing to meet the demands of future and I hope in the future it will be known as the second level of Ivy leagues.
How do I get from OSU to Miami (OH) University?
I'm a student at Ohio State University and I want to get to the University of Miami OH by public transit. I have no car. How do I do this? I don't think greyhound buses stop in miami, so I can't do that. I would take a cab from my dorm to the greyhound station in columbus if it did. If there is a way to do this linking routes or something, can someone please lay this out for me or link me to a website that will do this. I haven't had any success with google on this.
Is the university of Miami at florida hard to get into?
No it's not hard BUT you need to have more than just grades and a good score to get in. You will need some $$$ if you attend because unless you are a genius with no money your financial aid package will be very small. My niece is in her senior year at UM and I think she only received about $10K or $12K per year or something. She has to maintain a B or better in her classes or she would loose the money. I know some of her high school classmates did not get accepted and their SAT scores were better (she took it twice) but she had AP classes throughout high school and belonged in various clubs. I think they accepted her because she was well rounded. She had a choice to attend another school with full tuition covered but went to UM instead. She loves it but she studies 24/7. Also UM offers lots of stuff to do and is located in a great area. Of course, they have a great sports program. Another option is FIU which is public. They have some good programs there too and it's not as expensive.
Is it hard to get into the University of Miami?
“Hard” is very subjective and difficult to measure in general terms. My biggest piece of advice is that being a Private School, the criteria is internally a bit different than public schools. I believe that U of Miami admissions looks heavily at the person, your essay and the contributions that you will make to society and back to the University once you graduate. State Schools , in my opinion, look at GPA at SAT scores, almost exclusively. For this reason, I think U of Miami creates more “opportunity” to get in than a Public/State school.
What is your review of University of Miami?
My son transferred there and absolutely loves it at the University of Miami! Our tour guide said it’s like “living in Paradise everyday”. It’s a beautiful campus, nice weather. But the best part is the students! It’s very diverse so they are all open-minded, welcoming, and friendly. There are whites, Latinos, Cubans, African-Americans, Caribbean blacks, E. Indians, everything. If you aren’t tolerant of such diversity, this isn’t the school for you, and there are plenty of other homogenous colleges to choose from. The students love doing things so this isn’t your basic college with nothing to do but smoke and drink. While they like having fun, it’s ranked #46 nationally, so they still value academics. You don’t need to go Greek to have a fun social life. The university has so many fun events for the students and the students participate. The football team plays at a pro stadium and there is a shuttle running back and forth during the entire game. Moreover, there is NO ticket price for students—they get in for free! They have students pumping out confetti and steam in the stands during the football games and the students wear their school colors of orange/green—there is so much school spirit! They also have a lot of on-campus events. Occasional celeb sightings: Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez often at sports games, Drake filmed his video, “God’s Plan” on campus.The undergraduate enrollment is about 11,000, which is just right for him. He says he sees people he knows on campus often, versus the public school he transferred from (35,000) where it was difficult to keep bonds because he didn’t see many of the same people on campus often. They also had weeklong events for transfer students prior to the start of classes and a dorm for upperclassmen so it’s easy to make friends as a transfer student.The only downside is that the dorms are very old and cafeteria food is only okay. The windows are permanently locked due to hurricanes so the attached bathroom humidity leads to mold in the shower stall. They are currently building a new, contemporary dorm in the middle of campus (finally, but too late for my son). There is a good food court on campus for better food than the dining halls. But it’s the engaged and happy students that make the UM such a wonderful place. I suggest people tour and they will be convinced. My son is getting both academics and a wonderful social life at the U!
Can i get accepted to the university of miami with a 3.2 gpa and a 30 act?
If you mean the one in CG, Florida, then No. UM is a rather good private school and requires solid averages for admit. While a 30 ACT is noble, your 3.2 is bad...and further more is not on par with your ACT score. The standardized test score should echo your GPA. Most solid colleges have a GPA consideration cut off, which is most likely more along the lines of 3.4+. A 3.2 is good for low end state schools. There is a school in Ohio called Miami University....a 3.2 MIGHT get you considered there.
How hard is it to get accepted to Miami University?
Hey! I worked in the office of admissions as a tour guide, so I have a little bit of input……Overall I would say Miami is probably a tier 2 Ohio school. Ohio has some tough to get into private schools and few really good state schools like OSU, Case, ONU, and such. But I think Miami sits right behind all these.This means competition will be decently tough, but not impossible - you aren’t trying to get into the Ivy league or West Coast schools, lol. So if you are a good, honors class and involved student, you will probably be fine. Or if you may be a little below average for our acceptance criteria but make up for it in other departments, you are fine!For academics, they want to make sure you can handle the workload. Anything 3.5 and better is good and if you are lower no worries, just make sure other things make up for it.ACT scores generally range from like 25–30 median. Once again, this isn’t do or die.Now for a few insider pointers…………….Miami has put a big emphasis on trying to be more diverse, so if you have anything, literally anything to say about this, include this!Also, Miami loooooooves out of state students, so if you got this this is a boost. But obvies isn’t necessary to get in, will just give you a bump. Especially if you are from a “unique” state, not all you Chicago kids, lol.If you have legacies, include this as well! Miami likes this……And when you fill your application out, please take your time! I know you are busy/tired but this is sooooo important.I don’t know if application essays are still a thing but if they are, make sure your paper is well written and proper grammar. This is as much a test to see who you are as seeing if you know how to write. Everybody embellishes their essay a bit but don’t lie. And if you have ANYTHING unique or special about you, include this. Miami, as does every college, wants to see something unique.Best of luck, Miami is sooooooooo much fun and really transforms you as a person.
