Do You Think I Will Be Able To Dunk Soon

If I lose weight will I be able to dunk?

I'm 5'9 190 pounds and I can jump up and grab the rim on a basketball hoop. If I lose weight will I be able to dunk? I'd say I've probably got about 20 pounds of fat on me that I could lose. How high above the rim do you need to be able to get to dunk? 6 inches? Also any guess what my vertical is? I don't have anything to measure my vertical reach with? I'm guessing its about 1 and a half feet more than my height but that's just a guess. What's typical? I have pretty normal length arms I think.

Want to be able to dunk?

keep in mind to dunk, you need to get your entire hand and the ball above the rim. to increase my jumping i did a variety of exercises that helped me out a lot. i was around a 2'6" vertical and went to 3'4" vertical. below are the things i worked on.

1) jump roping
2) lay an object on the ground (something that is a foot high by a foot wide) and jump over it from left to right.
3) stand under the back board and jump up and slap it with both hands as many times as you can.
4) stand with your toes on the edge of a stair and raise and lower yourself up and down.
5) weight train, but not too heavy

Is it possible for me to dunk?

Yes. It is possible for you to dunk. But it will take some training to learn how, very few people can naturally dunk. You see, even the most genetically gifted, most athletic players on earth won’t jump higher without the proper training program. What you need is a proven, step-by-step program, guidance and support based on hard science, years of undeniable proof and sound training principles. Then you will be jumping higher than ever before, simple as that.Program OverviewVert Shock is split into 3 phases:Pre-Shock Phase:In the first 7 days of the Vert Shock program your vertical jump will increase up to 3 – 5 inches. This is called the ‘Pre-Shock’ phase and is designed to get your body ready for what’s to come.Shock Phase:Then you enter the ‘Shock’ phase which is 6 weeks long. This is the main part of the program and is where your nervous system is ‘shocked’ into leaping higher than all your friends thought possible.Post-Shock Phase:And the final phase of the program is the ‘Post-Shock’ phase. This is a full week where everything your body ‘learned’ in the previous phases becomes cemented in your muscle memory. So after 8 weeks and going through all 3 phases of the Vert Shock Program you will have added up to 9 – 15 inches to your vertical jump. Then you will be able to dunk.Get the vertical shock program today and start dunking.Amazon.com: Jump Training: The Ultimate Jump Training Guide

Is it physically possible to dunk at 5'7?

It's definitely not impossible but it's definitely an improbability.

There have been people who are 5'7" and can dunk - such as Spud Webb - but you have to accept that he's an exception rather than the norm.

At that height, you're likely to need about a 40 inch vertical leap to pull it off. If you follow the link in my source, you'll see a study which shows the average vertical leap is about 22 inches for males and 14 inches for females. So you'd have to excced the normal person by quite a bit to pull it off.

Training can help, but at 5'7" it's probably going to take an exceptional amount of natural athleticism to pull off a dunk. If you're a naturally gifted jumper, training will help you get those last few inches to dunk but if you're more than a foot away from grabbing the rim, even training probably won't help you achieve a dunk.

Can white people dunk a basketball?

of course

What are the best muscles to work out in order to be able to dunk? I'm 5’9 and able to grab the rim with my whole dominant hand, what is a good next step?

I don't play basketball, i play rugby union and in that sport you need to be lifted very high. To make it easier for the lifters you jump and the higher you jump the easier it is. So if you want to jump higher I'd recommend box jumps all the way, box jumps force you to use every single muscle in your legs and so they work them like crazy. Another thing to do is deadlifts; this exercise is the mother of all exercises, it works your glutes, legs and back. For power it's best you use low weights and go down into your squat slowly, hold it for 2 seconds, then explode up into your stance position all while keeping your arms straight and as long as possible and your back straight. Good luck and i hope you dunk soon :).
