Do You Think Internet/phone Security Is A Problem

Do Android phones need antivirus or internet security apps?

Before answering your question, you must understand the basic architecture of the Android operating system. Viruses are the consequences of vulnerability of the system to protect itself from any external programs that work maliciously without the knowledge of user and/or system. Here is the basic architecture diagram of the Android:You will notice that all the programs are installed in userland area (uppermost layer) below which application framework is there.Fundamentally all Linux based distributions are immune to any viruses. Android has no exception. Android is just yet another Linux based mobile operating system. So, the answer to your question is NO! Android phones need not any antivirus. But that doesn’t mean that Android is safe from Malwares & Viruses, just the mechanism & propagation (spreading) of the intrusion of the Virus or any Malware is different than that of Windows.Viruses & Malwares come from user installed programs. They can not spread automatically like Windows Viruses. Here, end user is culprit, who confers user rights to such programs that may infect userland area of the applications.Precautions to be taken while installing any App from the store or USB:Don’t trust any application from Play store blindly. Please verify the developer of the app & it’s reputation. e.g. see image:Before installations, please check permission asked by the app. In any case if you feel this app may cause damage, malfunction and any other suspicious permission, do not install that app.(This app seeks permission to retrieve running apps & read sensitive log data. Do not install such applications.) By conferring such permissions you allow that malicious application to take your phone’s control, and you feel that your phone has been infected with the virus.DO NOT INSTALL ANY POPULAR ANTI-VIRUS (OFTEN FOUND AD ON TV) ON YOUR PHONE. SUCH ANTI-VIRUS GENERATES FAKE VIRUS REPORT AND CONVINCE USER THAT HOW IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND HOW WISE YOU ARE THAT YOU CHOSE TO INSTALL THIS ANTI-VIRUS.Also do not install such apps which displays malicious ads which tells that your phone has been infected and install so and so anti-virus. Do no trust on such ads and simple do not install such apps which shows such ads.

Do you think that using the Internet or cell phones creates any security problems on a flight?

No, it does not. All planes have to have all the equipment, and wires shielded from all interference, so there is nothing you can use that can cause any problems for an airplane. They get struck by lightning on a regular basis, and if lightning can't interfere with anything on a plane, then you using anything you have can't possibly cause any problems for an airplane.
Why are they such commies about electronics? Control, plain, and simple.

How can I make my smart phone internet browsing secure without purchasing any antivirus-like software?

In smartphones you have a very little or no security concerns, they have a limited scope (browsers) as they can't install their own softwares like on desktop we do on chrome (extensions) and in Firefox (addons). But there are privacy issues, someone can take your browsing history, install a keyboard keylogger that is impossible to trace and will send anything you type but since that is out of context here, I won't get into that. Make your browsing more secure in chrome by enabling DATA SAVER, now you might be thing what it has to do with security? Data is transferred over google's server then sent to you, for me that's kind of a extra layer of security. But the application of chrome's data saver is quite low, it won't work on https, and has many exceptions like this. I hope I was precise with best of my knowledge. If you think I was wrong somewhere, please comment and let me know. Help me get it right. :)

What are some security issues you must think about when you access the Internet?

The internet is a rapidly changing place, with technology evolving at a pace which is often hard to keep up with. That computer you bought today might be obsolescent by the end of the month. Likewise, security risks and dangers are
also changing rapidly, with new and ingenious methods to try and rob you of your money, or your very identity. But what can Internet users do to minimise the risks of this happening?

An ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure. Make sure your PC is bulletproof:

- Install an antivirus program (McAfee or Norton are available commercially; AVG Antivirus is an excellent free alternative. Don't just install it, run it frequently; daily in an ideal world, weekly minimum. Make sure the software is up to date and has the latest upgrades and patches.
adparams.getadspec('c_billboard1');

- Install some form of anti-spyware software. Either Lavasoft's AdAware or Spybot do an excellent job, if you want to be doubly certain, install both. Again, run and update these regularly.

- Install a firewall, and keep it up. Any version of Windows from XP onwards comes with a built-in firewall; a free alternative is Zonealarm. Keep it running, and yet again, update as needed.

- Switch browsers. Mozilla Firefox is free, more secure, and a better browser to boot than Internet Explorer. Judicious use of the settings will allow you to block cookies from any untrusted site.

So. You're softwared up. The second (and most important) tip... Use common sense:

- Passwords. Make them hard to guess. Include a mix of upper and lowercase letters, include a number in there somewhere. If your name is John Smith, and you were born in 1972, a possible example could be Jsmith72. A better example would be J72Smith. You can make passwords easy to remember and at the same time very, very difficult for a password script to break.

- Once you've picked a killer password, keep it secret. Don't write it down. It's easier to sift through desks or trashcans than it is to sift through a hard drive or server. Don't tell it anyone you don't trust. I don't care if she is your grandmother.

How do you feel about the government being able to collect phone call records?

I am not going to blow this up into a big topic on politics between who is right, the elephant or the mule, but I wish to answer from the point of view as an American citizen.

I understand why the Patriot Act was put up in the first place, after the consequences of September 11th, it does make sense to track for more terrorist plans and such; whether foreign or domestic; and even though it violates our rights as citizens, but we were all still frightened after the tragedy. However with everyone under the microscope to be observed is scary and it feels like we the people are getting pinched.

I think, for the time being; it was fine, but if they keep this up forever and try to pass through restrictions that violate our rights, then I am really going to have a major problem with this. I personally would like to cease the restrictions set forth by the Patriot Act and allow more freedom back into the citizens hands, but at this time, we are all stuck with what we have.

NOTE: I am also referring to the use of the internet more so because it has become increasingly popular in terms of it's medium in today's world. But this also applies to all of our rights, whether online or offline.

How can I make secure phone calls online through the internet?

Depends on who you trust.Your call can be intercepted at several stages:In your deviceFrom your phone to the receiver phoneIn the receiver deviceEavesdropping your call is a matter of cost, and who wants to do that goes where your link is weaker, thus spending less.Do not expect to get a secure solution for free. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.Do not expect to get a secure solution even cheap. That being said, the problem with SIP solutions is that the best way to encrypt such calls is known to be the ZRTP, but unfortunately the initial key exchange is the weak point, as proved since 2006[1] .All other “free” end-to-end solutions, name them WhatsApp, Signal, etc. are developed by Open Whisper Systems, with funds from the U.S. Defence Act, as documented in some other answers.Same applies to solutions made by The Guardian Project.Nothing against it, unless you are disturbed by E. Snowden revelations.Anyway, it is possible to make relative secure calls over the Internet, as long as your solution thinks it thoroughly.Footnotes[1] ZRTP - Wikipedia
