Why are so many liberals opposed to the wall when many of them have 'walls' around their homes. Isn't this a double standard?
Well, my “wall” around my house—by which I presume you're talking about my fence?—is designed to keep things in, not out. Specifically speaking, the “wall” around my house exists so that I can let my doggos out into the backyard and not have to worry about them running away—though, admittedly, they've still gotten out a time or two, so perhaps it's not quite the barrier I think it is!Photographic evidence of said fence keeping said doggo inside said fenceI would also never insist that my doggos, who 1) didn't ask for the fence, and 2) make much less money than I do, pay for said fence. If that isn't the height of impropriety…ETA: On a more serious note, fences or walls around houses are generally used to keep criminals out. Someone trying to get into your or my backyard is almost certainly doing so for nefarious reasons—there are no jobs in my backyard, nor can one apply for asylum in my backyard. The only thing one can do is try to get in my house via the back door, which is less visible than the front door. There is no better life back there (unless it's 75 and sunny, in which case it's very nice to lounge out there with a book).Contrary to popular belief, just crossing into the US without a visa isn't a criminal act. Most people who do it don't have a nefarious purpose or malicious intent. Many are escaping horrors you and I can't even imagine. Many are coming to work jobs you and I would never in a million years work. The vast majority of them are not criminals or potential criminals.That's the difference: If you break into my house, you have at the very least criminal intent, so I have good reason to want to keep you out of my house. If you make an unauthorized (notice I did not say illegal) entry into this country, experience shows that you aren't here to rape, murder, and pillage my village, so I'm not particularly concerned with keeping you out.Thank heavens no one put up a wall to keep my immigrant ancestors out—they didn't have visas either. The fact that they arrived 200–400 years ago is irrelevant.
I don't think I'd be good at any STEM-related subject. My grades are fine but I have no interest in it. Am I dumb if I don't want to major in a STEM field?
My controversial yet firm opinion here is that you sound the very opposite of dumb.Dumb would be to pretend to want to major in a field that does not interest you. Even dumber would be to root for a job in that field; a job that does not excite you as well. A lot dumber would be to pass on any and all opportunities to consider the alternatives, only to realize by your forties that the life you have been living is far from what you yourself would consider a fruitful one.The period of “dedicated studying” (read: the age where the educational institutions are actively on your side) has one major goal: to make sure the students get exposed to as many potentially exciting areas of science and industry as possible, so that they are well equipped to make their life-defining decisions wisely.If one of first the decisions you are making on this path is to not major in STEM, and the only obstacle on this path is that you may think it could be dumb to not major in what you have no interest in: congratulations. You have almost passed the test for a well-prepared adult. The only step left is to quit looking at what other may think is dumb, giving priority to your own calls.All the best!
Why are actors' political opinions so important when realistically, they tell lies for a living?
A good question. Maybe because they are obvious social influencers due to their occupation. It’s a bit like listening to what late night talk show hosts or what your parents think….influencers due to their status. Yes, you are correct that they are all excellent professional liars and very convincing liars, at that.Not sure why anyone would listen to a person with that proven “gift” (and most trained rigorously to pretend to be someone else and say things they do not believe). Plus, most actors (like popular musicians, etc.) want to groom a larger audience so they would have a built-in bias to have you trust and believe them (even if they are acting that part).Plus they would naturally reflect the opinion that fantasy and entertainment (watching or hearing them) is more important than you individually going out to search out “boring factual reality”. They are natural leaders in that respect….that you should “just trust them” as you trust them in their entertainment ability.I am not at all against actors but their political views would seem highly biased due to their privileged status and unusual (unrealistic) perspective.
Why is there so much hate between Hindus and Muslims in India?
I will speak only for myself!Yesterday I attended a Muslim wedding as the bride and the groom both happen to be my schoolmates and it's a love marriage.Scene 1:Bride's dad show up.Friend 1: Hello uncle. Uncle: Hi.Friend 2 (Prajapathi): As-salamu walekum. Uncle: Waalaikum salaam.Me: Namaste uncle. Uncle: Namaste beta.Scene 2:Bride's brother turns up.“Veg is upstairs. Have soon before the non-vegetarians (he meant Muslims) invade veg counters”. He accompanied us and made sure we tasted every dish.Scene 3:All the male guests hugged the hosts. Brahmin, lingayat, Muslim, Christian,Prajapathi, Gowda. Every damn person.More than 50% of the guests were Hindus.Do you see any hate here!?I am neither proud of any of the above instances because this is how it is supposed to be.I have changed 7 schools, 2 colleges, 8 houses, 6 different localities over past 25 years and have not witnessed any actions that shows hate towards any religion or community.We are brahmins. My dad's best friend is a Christian. My best friend is a Muslim. And my mom…well she doesn't have many friends.The majority of commoners in India are living a peaceful life with the other religions.There is a problem of mis-interpretation among the masses and the media is very well aware of this.We hate those who preach against hinduism, we do not hate Muslims.We hate those who slaughter cows. We do not hate Muslims.We hate those who destroy temples. We do not hate Muslims.We hate those who spread terror/violence. We do not hate Muslims.P.S: This is what I have heard. Correct me if I am wrong. Who are Hindus? All the citizens of Hindustan are Hindis. It seems even in Mecca the Indian Muslims who go for pilgrimage are/were addressed as “Hindis” because they are from Hindustan.It's my nation. It's your nation. Why do so many people (often enthusiastically) support gun control legislation sponsored by wealthy politicians & elites that are regularly escorted by armed bodyguards who live in estates & compounds protected by additional armed guards?
Because we’ve elevated these people to god-like status, and dumbed down the populace to all but eliminate critical thinking.Actors, who are often dropouts, pretend to be other people for millions of dollars. Subtract the millions of dollars and what are you left with? A faker. Should that person be given such credibility?Athletes, often given easy classes to play college ball, play a child’s game for millions of dollars. Subtract those millions of dollars and what are you left with? Someone, who in a live interview, can barely string two sentences together, and likely couldn’t spell their own fucking name in three tries. Credible source?Politicians, while college educated are known corporate whores, pretend to represent the People but their voting records show overwhelming support for their corporate pimps for MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. FDR saw the danger of lifetime, career politicians!! And like any good detective, look for the motive. If gun laws won’t stop another mass shooting, then what’s the motive for pushing the measures through? WHO gains power from this? The government, and the criminals, that’s who!!
