Do You Think My Plan Of Studying Abroad Is Realistic

Studying Abroad in Korea: Weighing Pros and Cons??? Help!?

I plan on doing a year long (2011-2012) study at Korea University in Seoul, S.K through an ISEP program for my senior year of college. My focus of study is in "Environmental Economic Policy", basically a conglomerate of statistics, business, and environmental sciences. At this point, I have done my application, most of my course approvals, considering scholarships, and just waiting for the acceptance results. Basically my parents are saying that my degree would be useless if I end up graduating over there since the 30 some credits would not be factored into my GPA. I will still be getting my degree from my home university though.

Pros:::
- Lots of networking
- Possibly graduating on time
- Gaining an alternative view of their methods in my field
- Expanding my horizons

Cons:::
- Unsupported by parents (will need at least half of costs covered through scholarships/financial aid)
- Language barrier (learning Korean right now)
- Possibly extending my graduation time
- Missing GRE's
- Unable to look for jobs in the US

I have been to Korea before this past winter break and loved it so much I decided I wanted to go back this time for an academic experience,etc. Basically, I'd like some feedback from you guys to weigh my options for my final decision.

Should weak student dream of studying in abroad?

Yes,why not. There is nothing called as weak or strong. All people in themselves are strong. Just all have different passion in life.Also studying abroad is not some achievement . Anyone or everyone can study abroad. But think really why do you want to study abroad? Just coz all people are studying and you plan to follow them? or Coz really your studies abroad will give you good job or business or career oppurtunity? or are you willing to enhance your lifestyle and thus want to study abroad? What is the main reason why you want to study abroad? Make a SWOT and then take a rational decision. As spending lakhs (average) for a Degree namesake is not worth. Also before planning for abroad be as pessimistic as you can.Think of all negative things that can happen like: if you dont get job after studies; if you have to return again to India what you will do etc. This will help you make a rational and wise decision.

Can i take my dog with me if i study abroad?

The simple answer is : yes.

The more realistic is: No.

Student accommodation ( and just about any accommodation which you do not own) will have severe restrictions on pet ownership, especially something as large as a Great Dane. This applies not only to Vienna, but the USA as well.

A dog is a wonderful companion, but they have high needs for attention from you, and being away from your own home while having a dog is going to introduce many complications into your life which you do not need while studying abroad, or being away from your own home while studying.

I know, I have had two dogs and they do bind you into one place because rental accommodation that accepts dogs is hard to find. Also, as a student you will be away from home for many hours during the day, and that is not good for your dog.

It looks like you will have to strike a compromise about being with your best friend and your ability to choose from the many options that life offers to you.

Hope this helps.

Unplanned pregnancy during study abroad...?

I am almost exactly in the middle of a year abroad. I am from North America and my boyfriend is from Asia. He has to go home in less than a month and I will be here until mid-July. I'm 24 and he is 23.

I just found out two days ago that I'm about 1 month pregnant... and I am so conflicted about what to do.

My boyfriend is an amazing guy and wants what is best for us. Before we found out, we had already talked about me moving with him when I finish college. He is totally prepared for a long distance relationship, but a long-distance pregnancy just wasn't in our plans.

He has a job waiting for him when he goes back home, but he lives in an extremely expensive city and doesn't think it is realistic to pay for a baby and me because his salary won't be enough. Admittedly, he isn't making much money and rent will take almost all of it. Neither of us have any real savings to speak of. I don't speak the local language, and won't be able to work if I go with him. In his opinion, we should terminate the pregnancy. He isn't emotionally ready to be a dad, and we aren't financially stable.

I'm not so sure I agree. I mean, I know that logically speaking, he is right. But I just don't think that I can go through with an abortion or adoption. I know I'm basing this totally on emotions and not on reason, but that is really all I can think about now. I know if I decide to have an abortion and I'm not 100% sure of it, I may come to regret it and feel guilty for years. I might blame him and say he is the one who told me to do it. I don't want that to happen.

On the other hand, he might feel the same way: that if times get really hard, he might say I ruined his life by keeping a baby he wasn't sure about. (He's never suggested anything like that, it is just a fear of mine) If I keep it, he has already said he'd try and find a way to support me in his country. That means I'd have to move around the world, away from my family and friends when I need them the most.

I don't see adoption being a realistic option at all because I know that as hard as it would be to have an abortion, carrying a baby for 9 months and then handing it over to a stranger is just something I could never feel right about doing -- I have other personal reasons for this and probably can't be talked out of it.

No option looks good here. I could really use some non-judgmental advice.

What is the best plan to study for the SAT?

I gave the SAT in October last year, and got a score of 1520/1600. I had a month and a half to prepare for it. I did not join any paid coaching specifically for it.I am good with English and since I was preparing for IIT JEE and other engineering exams, my Math and mental ability portions were also covered properly.But of course, the SAT is a whole different deal, and so I prepared from Khan Academy. They have a tie-up with the College Board and host the official SAT practice on their site.Khan AcademyI used the site extensively in that period and practiced all the English and Math exercises till I mastered all the skills, and then gave the practice tests. In the four tests I gave, I had scores of 1470, 1480, 1540, 1470, so as you can see, the tests match the level of the real exam.Everything you need to prepare for the SAT is available at Khan Academy, best of all, for free! It's a great site, I've used it before to understand complex Physics and Math topics while preparing for the IIT JEE. They have videos explaining all sorts of topics, from microeconomics to multi-variable calculus.{Note- If you too are a JEE aspirant like me, you will notice that SAT Maths has some portions we have not been taught, in topics like Statistics. I had to learn from videos on Khan Academy}Here's another good site, this time specifically for online test preparation. I used their free material to prepare the TOEFL (scored 110), not the SAT, but I'm sure they have nice material for the SAT too.Magoosh Online SAT Prep & PracticeFor the SAT, make sure you are proficient at English. You'll have to be good and fast at reading long passages (like this answer), have a good grasp over grammar and vocabulary.Try the Magoosh Vocabulary Builder app, it does what it's name suggests. You can build your vocab for the SAT, TOEFL or GRE. I'm using it now for because it's fun, like a game. There are other good vocabulary apps like Volte and Knudge.me, as well. Haven't tried them extensively, however. The best way to improve your English is to read good literature, however. Since I'm an avid reader, I had not much to do in English while preparing for the SAT.If you're not into online preparation, start by buying some books for SAT preparation. I did buy and complete (mostly) the Barron's SAT book. However, I found Khan Academy more useful and helpful. I haven't tried any other preparation books, so I can't tell you which is the best SAT preparation series.
