Do You Think The Future Will Make The Early 21st Century Look Like The Good Ol

Is the early 21st century a good time to be alive?

The 21st century is a great time to be alive. People in their 30's and younger will see unimaginable changes to humanity, all driven by technological innovation. In terms of resources, the world will have plenty of clean energy (look for that later this year) and with this near limitless energy, plenty of fresh water too. There may be issues with certain resources running out, but it should be something we can overcome. There are potential downsides though. With our new technologies, there is the potential that we could destroy ourselves. Even given this, I am still very excited to see the future because it the best time to be alive in the history of mankind.

In the distant or not-so-distant future, will future medical scientists and doctors view current, modern (early 21st century) medicine as primitive?

There are great glass and steel buildings in the modern times and yet the old classic architecture is always admired. We don't call them primitive, do we?Same holds good in medicine too. In fact we always keep admiring at the genius of the early doctors and scientists who laid great foundations for the modern medicine. No one has improved on the understanding of either Hodgkin's disease or Crohn's disease over decades. Whatever happened in the recent times is on the sophistication front like we are constantly evolving in our tastes and dwelling. But the basics remain more or less same. I agree sophistication and gadgetry of the present times bear no comparison to the old times. Yet the principles are same. All we have achieved is building a storey or more on the great edifice originally conceived by the earlier generations. May be the interiors we have modernised more to give the edifice a contemporary look. Honestly,  we are reaping the seeds they had sowed. The knowing of contributions of some of the doctors like Mayo brothers, Virchow, Kocher, Halsted, Cushing, Horsley, DeBakey, Roy Calne, Denton Coolie etc make our hair stand on ends. There were many many scientists who deserve our salute. Its the same analogy of Edison and  the present day engineers. The modernity added a lot more complexity to make the practice of medicine much more challenging and even frustrating at times.

Arguments for and against god?

2ndimpre... crap. had it all out and deleted it. ok. lets try this again. i agree spirituality was formed into religion (unfortunately) but that wasnt because of hallucinogenic plants, which i laughed so hard about, nice job. but maybe it was because they realized an outside force. something bigger then themselves that made the world do what it does.

now true they did assign certain gods to ran and others to death and the such but that doesnt mean they had the wrong idea. something has got to be in control. dont you think the world would be destroyed by now if otherwise?

soeaking of destruction, the universe. your looking at it like a sheet. you pull on the outside while it tenses up in the middle. i look at it as infinite. no tension anywhere. it just keeps going. forever. notice i said going not growing. i think the universe is fully expanded. fully expanded till it meets the end of time. but hey thats me. let me know what you think

you are a great debater, smart and quick

Will the Internet last forever?

A2A Will the Internet last forever? The short answer is no.Studying technology and history is my passion. What we now call the internet is one point of a timeline of inventions and innovations in communications and entertainment. It started with wired communications like telegraph and telephone in the last half of nineteenth century. Wired communications evolved into wireless communications in the twentieth century. As we were learning to use wireless communications, our sources for information and entertainment evolved from newspaper and magazines through radio and on to television. In the early stages of the twenty first century we see the convergence of the various types of communications and entertainment on this system we call the internet. It continues to evolve. What will be the next stage in this evolution? We can explore the possibilities through the exciting world of science fiction and speculation. There is one thing I am certain of, a century from now what we currently call the internet will look as primitive to geeks of that generation, as using a wired telegraph to send a message looks to the geeks of this generation.
