The government can shut down the internet any time they want. So whose "house" is this?
Which government?Not really… some “repressive” governments have full control of the communications networks and infrastructure WITHIN their country, and they can disable (or censor) ACCESS to the Internet from within the country. But they sure as shit cannot shut down the Internet. No one can.The US Government: They do not officially has this authority, as far as I know/understand (our countries access to the Internet). Nor really the ability (there is no “kill switch”). Sure, they could declare some “national security” event and maybe even “martial law” and then “compel” some telecommunications companies to do things. But this is unlikely and extreme.The most likely case I can think of is they can get a court order that may force named companies from serving you, basically disconnecting your service. Or they physically cut your cable and jam your airwaves.So no… the statement (premise) of this question is wrong. They can shut down sites with some level of due process; confiscate a domain name (megaupload.com is an example of that). That’s wholly different than “the Internet.”

Agree with Elizabeth, somewhat with Asdk and John. The site has "caused problems" for many years... they can be avoided. Just don't use it at all if it bothers you. Sometimes I go on it when I'm really bored, but I can never have an actual conversation. The people are actually really boring, even if you don't get perverts. I've tried being friends with someone, but it just couldn't work as we had no similar interests. I only needed quick advice for that day. The last good conversation I had was about Pokémon and it was many months ago. Overall, I do use Omegle when I'm really bored. You do have to be really bored to use that mess. Even if I can never normally get a conversation, some of the people are amusing.
