My sister wants to name her daughter Vanity?
It's a terrible name. Really it is. I wish she'd put more thought into it. Too many people try "to be different" without thinking about anything else and the kids are the ones who suffer. There's millions of names, I'm sure if she honestly tried she could find a good, unique one that isn't commonly referred to as one of the seven deadly sins. I checked Vanity on several naming sites to see if it had some hidden meaning other than insult. Nope. Here's what I got - "a girl's name is pronounced VAN-ih-tee. It is of French origin, and the meaning of Vanity is "empty; inflated in pride". So your niece is "Empty and inflated with pride". That or a piece of furniture. EDIT: Even if she is naming her daughter after a bathroom sink (Seriously?) most people will first think of the sin. Vanity mirrors are called that BECAUSE of the sin. Vain people spend all their time looking in them, hence the name. So it's got a ton of cons and so far the only pro (going by what the people who like it say) is that it's "different". Again with millions of accepted names, there's millions that are different without being cruel.

We are torn between Lila ( Lie Luh) Rose, Calista Rose and Alexandra Rose. I looove Lila it's so pretty and not too common. It reminds me of lilacs and my favorite color Lilac. I worry about this name not aging well though and a lot of ppl say it sounds old fashioned like a grandma name???? I dont want her to be teased for her name. I also love Calista, its beautiful very unique amd means most beautiful girl! Nickname Callie is so cute. I worry this one is TOO different though and she may hate it or get teased for it. Alexandra is classic, timeless and not used too often anymore where I live but definitely not weird! I think its very pretty and elegant although i think Lila and Calista are a little prettier/more feminine. I love love love the nickname Lexi and all the other options this name has ( Ally, Andi, Alex etc) though, Lexi has always been my favorite nickname. I also like the meaning "defender of men" for Alexandra because her brother who will be almost two when she is born, is very passive when he plays with other kids. whenever anyone says he will protect his little sister I have joked that it will probably be the other way around!
