How much will my sweater dress shrink if I wash it in the washer when it's supposed to be hand washed?
I'm also planning to dry it even though it says lay flat to dry. My reasoning is that my mom gave it to me for Christmas and it's too big for me and there aren't any left so I can't exchange it. It's made out of 80% rayon and 20% polyester. It's too big in the waist so I definitely need that smaller. I just don't want it to get too small because I am chesty and I don't want to run into the problem where there's no room in the chest.
Will my rayon-nylon dress shrink with a hot hand wash? 10 points!?
Recently bought a 65% rayon and 35% nylon dress, and would just like to slightly and subtly shrink it to fit better. Does anyone have advice on how to shrink it? Heard rayon shrinks in hot machine wash? Or will a hand wash be better to prevent the fabric from getting 'damaged'? Please advice!
How much will rayon shrink when machine washed and dried?
It's worth a try, but it won't really shrink much. Rayon is made of pulverized plant fibers that are coaxed into fibers and spun into yarn. The abuse that the cellulose takes in processing is more than you can manage at home! Washing out the sizing (the chemicals they spray onto clothing to make them look nice on the rack) can help.
Will viscose shrink in the wash?
do as the label says and you should be ok-you can get some woolite and hand wash it in teh sink, OR if your machine has a hand wash cycle, you could use that and see what happens. where shrinking REALLY occurs is in the DRYER! so do what it says for drying! I imagine it says hang dry. If it dries stiff, you can then tumble it in the dryer on air dry or NO HEAT dry with some dryer sheets to soften it up! (make sure you understand how yoru machine works for no heat dry...when i use time dry in mine, i have to set it for 40 mins or more, or it will turn the heat on anyway! Not as big a deal when teh garment is dry though...) PS-i never dry anything on higher than the low setting cause high heat can really mess with some fabrics, esp things with elastic or spandex.... Good luck! and if you mess it up, some stores will take it back anyway! I knwo victorias secrect does for example....and i think the gap might.....
How much would a silk dress shrink if i put it in the washer and dryer?
Silk garments can shrink if the fabric has not been washed prior to garment construction especially if the fabric is not tightly woven (light weight). A tightly woven silk will not "shrink" or will "shrink" a lot less. Not sure what weight your silk fabric is, I am assuming it is 19-25 momme for a man’s dress. If so, your dress will not shrink a lot with the shrinkage under 5%. From my experience, if the dress is one size bigger then what you need, wash can make it fits. Otherwise, return it and get the right size. I do not suggest taking it to a seamstress as silk is a very fine fabric and the old stitches will damage the fabric. Is it safe to machine wash your dress pants?
If you mean wool suit trousers, then no do not wash them at home. Trousers will have a care tag inside. Look at them and see what they say. If they are machine wash cold, try it carefully with one pair and then steam or iron to crease. If they didn't shrink or fade or get odd looking, then try the other pairs of the same fabric. Shrinkage can occur in warm/hot water or heated dryers. However many things say dry clean only for other reasons.
