Do You Think We Should Give Amnesty To 15 Million Illegals

If reagan gave illegals full amnesty then how can repubs say amnesty will "destroy America"?

so i was accidentally trying to inform myself in the immigration "issue" and found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_Reform_and_Control_Act_of_1986

can a conservative explain to me how that order of amnesty destroyed america? and how would a one in modern day be different? AND PLEASE TELL ME HOW: you can be lover of reagan, and not a complete hypocrite at the same time..

If we give amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants currently living in the United States, then why wouldn't wave after wave and millions upon millions follow in their footsteps hoping for the same outcome?

The Immigration And Naturalization service has already failed toDeport the overstays of their documents (#### the companies that continue to employ them too bad their managers and executives and owners will not be jailed)Deport those that crossed into america without documentsDeport the children that were brought across the border before their cultures age of legal responsibility (it is lower than our cultures age of responsibility, you twit)If we give amnesty and legal presence to everyone that is here illegally now (that is not a known criminal)…crossing the border is a federal misdemenorI do not know what kind of crime overstaying a visa isThen we can concentrate on keeping illegal immigrants out and making sure that visas are done properly and overstays of visas are properly expelled

Does giving path to citizenship for 11 million illegals in the US cause another wave of millions of illegal immigrants?

Give that the illegals here can be said to be a result of the 1986 amnesty, I'd argue you already have the data to say "Yes".  If several million were given amnesty years ago by simply being here and in sufficient quantity to "demand" something be done, it is reasonable to argue a second attempt ought to succeed as well. That is what many supporters of illegal immigration are counting on.  Get enough here, be enough of a problem, point to the prior amnesty as "You did it before!  Don't we deserve justice and rights too?" and count on politicians to take a short view rather than a long view for political advantage and its "Here's your green card, Mr. or Ms. Illegal!".If you think the present wave is huge, wait for the third if that comes to pass.  It will be a tsunami.

Beto O' Rourke says that granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants will make American citizens safer, how is that the case?

It will absolutely make existing American Citizens safer to provide recognition and a path to citizenship for the appropriately ten million undocumented workers currently living and working peacefully in the country.First, and in my mind foremost, an undocumented worker is not a full member of society. They pay taxes, lots of taxes, but they get nothing in return. No food stamps, no Medicare, no Social Security, no Medicaid, etc. They get no federal protection (and in most of the US, no state or local protection) from gangs, corrupt politicians, swindlers, con men, fraudsters, thieves, rapists, or even murderers. Why do gangs flourish in immigrant communities? In part, because most members will not call the police. Why? Because even legal residents or citizens get harassed and they are afraid that their neighbors and friends who are not documented would be ripped from their homes and churches. So the gangs get impunity BECAUSE we force people to live as illegals.Second reason is that there are ten million Americans afraid to achieve, afraid to contribute, to serve as a public official, to enforce the law, or gain accolades for inventing a new gizmo, because that would draw attention to them.Think of their creative potential if they are allowed to contribute? Think of their financial potential if they are able to use banks for loans and checking accounts?Legalization pulls millions of people out of the shadows and into the light as full Americans.Let’s let the light shine in. We all benefit.

Unemployed, illegal and high medical bills?

I just turned 18 in October
I am unemployed
I am an illegal immigrant
but I am in the process to fix for my papers. Obviously I have no social security number, or health insurance.
I went to the emergency room thinking I had a miscarriage but I did not. All I got done was a pregnancy test. I never went in a room alone or got any further test done. A doc came to the waiting room talked to me and that was it, in the waiting room and then I was sent home. What I don't get is how I got two bills, one for 800$ and another for 300$. I am outraged that I got a bill that high for me to just take a pregnancy test.
I don't know what to do, I want to pay the bills so my credit doesn't get ruined for this. Or what will happen if I don't pay?
What can I do? I have tried looking at health insurance plans but they are just too high

I have a lot of questions

What's so bad about 16 million illegal immigrants becoming tax-paying citizens of America?

first of all ,let's start with the employer's.they getting hired somehow.
another the employer's take social security, and federal ,and medical out .
so in many way's they are paying ,which they cant never collect.
so the question here is ,who's the crook's ?
the employee just wants to feed their family's ,and provide better lives.
let's quit attacking the Innocent ,and go after the big dog's ,many women are having the baby's at home ,scared to be deported ,and guess what ? the baby is very much a citizen .
let's not be so judgmental,if you not 100% indian ,you dont belong either.
america was build by immigrant's,and ye's that time they where also illegal.
the economy have to do ,who you voted for President ,quit using the illegal's as a scape Goat.

Why not grant amnesty to all illegal immigrants in the US today and then clamp down on the borders afterwards?

Immigration policy in any country and under any government is a complicated beast (unless your economy is so trashed that no one else in the world wants to live there, but at that point you've got other issues to work through).  The shortest answer to your question is that trying to "clamp down the borders" is famously easier said than done.Basically, almost every effort to geographically control a large population in the history of the world has failed.  There are tens of thousands of North Koreans living abroad despite the country's vehemently closed borders[1].  More than a million Cubans live in the United States or elsewhere despite having an entire ocean to cross before reaching amnesty[2].  Oh, and remember the Berlin Wall?  By one estimate over its 28 years of existence 672,000 East Germans made it out from behind the Iron Curtain by other routes anyway[3].  Stalin would have been ashamed. This wall didn't actually workAs an American I have to look at this question from a humanitarian perspective, which complicates things even more.  What specific actions are available to us beyond the periodic border patrols and legality checks for criminals we already perform?  Policies like Arizona's attempts to proactively identify illegal immigrants by race are as unethical as they are legally tenuous.  And the much-debated border fence idea has been demonstrated to effectively slow down prospective immigrants -- by all of 20 seconds[4].  That's not to mention how ticked off implementing any of the above options would make those Latino-Americans who are legal and eligible to vote, a rapidly increasing segment that is now 11 percent of the electorate[5].So what options do we have?  Basically, we can sabotage our own economy until it is an unattractive prospect for potential immigrants (I lived in Spain for the last two years, and their illegal immigration "problem" is rapidly disappearing as their large population of immigrants abandon ship for other countries with more available work), or we can learn to accept the fact that as long as America is a free, prosperous country, people will go so far as to risk their lives to make it here.  I find the second option more appealing.[1] North Korean defectors[2] Cuban exile[3] Growing Number Of East Germans Escaping To West[4] Costly fence on US-Mexico border is effective – only in hurting nature[5] Record High Number Of Eligible Latino Voters

Amnesty - vs - Deportation?

last time I checked you dont get the capital punishment for speeding...you pay a fine and attend a class...

that would be my solution, having them pay a fine and taking classes, paid by them, to learn how to assimilate better. You could do background checks, finger printing, retinal scans and even semen samples to check for rapists. We can kick outt he gang members and the real criminals but I dont see why we as a nation have to resort to a witch hunt that would bankrupt this nation. Have them pay fines and have them pay taxes. I dont care what people say, social security is running out and who is going to pay for the baby boomer's SS? You could have these people paying into SS...

If the Democrats gave Trump $5.7 billion for the wall as he sees it, would he allow a 4 year path to citizenship for DACA individuals and their immediate family members (thereby ending the shutdown)?

The OP is making a series of assumptions that are incorrect.$5.7 billion is a down payment. In about 5 months we start discussions and planning for the next USG budget cycle. In this case, Trump could shut down the entire government unless Congress agrees to add another $20 billion to the budget for the wall.Trump already made his offer. He excluded most Dreamers who might be eligible and only included those currently registered. He and the GOP has NEVER included family members. And Trump’s offer was only temporary (so Dreamers could be deported in 3 years). And included no path to citizenship. So you’re saying that Trump is going to offer stuff (like amnesty and not just for Dreamers but also family members) that would drive the far right bonkers. That’s how we got in to this shutdown in the first place—far right commentators criticized Trump for only getting money for fencing and not the wall.Trump is engaging in hostage taking. He created the problem with the Dreamers by abolishing DACA. Then he says “I’ll undo the problem I made if you give me money for my project.” You should never reward a hostage-taker: it’s a terrible way to negotiate, especially with someone you have to deal with repeatedly.
