Do You Think Yahoo Answers Is Turning Into 4chan Jr

What would you choose between Flume, Yahoo S4, and Backtype/Twitter Storm, and why? Let's say you wanna clone Quora or Facebook.

I hate to state it like this, but the only way that I can answer this question is to ask you for more data:This question is equivalent to asking - what would you choose to go to the moon: the NASA Saturn, the Russian Federal Space Agency's Soyuz or the European Space Agency's Ariane 5.On the surface, all of them seem to do the same thing: getting stuff to space, but in reality, each of them has different performance characteristics, different payload capabilities and other minor but very important variations and limitations.Getting back to your question, there typically isn't a "right" answer for it. It's all a question of tradeoffs. What's right for you might not be right for someone else. So keep that in mind.I didn't want to close this answer being all wishy washy and not giving a hard answer, so here's my opinion:Personally, I like the architecture of Storm. It's underlying message passing layer is ZeroMQ (http://www.zeromq.org/), which is built by Peter Hintjens (one of the founding members of AMQP, the message passing system being built for financial systems) and  the guarantees given by the service seem superb (especially guaranteed message processing and no orphan tasks, which is pretty hard to achieve in distributed systems). Also, ZeroMQ has a set of nifty optimizations under the hood that gives it awesome performance in batched mode (they claim that it's faster than TCP). Unfortunately, I don't have personal experience of using the service so feel free to take this with a grain of salt. ---Update: a friend of mine called this too diplomatic an answer. Is Quora a liberal variant of 4chan's pol?

Quora is just a less useless version of Yahoo answers. /pol/ is…scary. Especially when they're sometimes right.Now there are too many stormfront types on /pol/ for my tastes, but 4chan in general is interesting. Because anonymity is preferred and there is no “internet points”, people aren't motivated by popularity, virtue signaling, saving face, etc. It’s their ideas and arguments that they are about. So even if it's riddled with memes, has silly board culture, and is full of vitriol, 4chan is more genuine and honest than its liberal leaning counterparts.It’s the court jester of the internet. It's crazy and ridiculous, but because it's the only one who genuinely doesn't care what people think about it, it's free to speak truths that no one else will. It doesn't mean it's always right (sorry /pol/), but it does often open your eyes to things that you may have already been thinking but never felt like you could talk about it before. There is no political correctness. No karma points. No popularity contests. There is no shame. And while that may allow rudeness, it also allows truth to be told because nothing but the merits of your argument matter.In the words of Jordan Peterson: “the jester was the only one who could speak the truth because he was beneath contempt.”
