Doctor Who Idiots Lantern.

Doctor Who Series 5: Who would you like to write some episodes?

oftentimes i think of sequence 2 substitute into rubbish apart from the Idiots Lantern, the girl interior the fire, and the dalek and cybermen ones. sequence one substitute into super whether monsters like the Slitheen have been slightly juevenile. It oftentimes says lots whilst the extra useful thoughts of the sequence arent written by skill of Russel T Davies.I oftentimes think of that Christopher Eccleston substitute into the extra useful out of the two new medical doctors. We observed the character of the 9th well being care professional strengthen of the area of one sequence, the place we havent somewhat seen Tennants Dr strengthen lots to be honest and have been interior the the fourth ep of sequence 2. the suitable medical doctors have been those that performed themselves, ie Troughton, Pertwee, Baker. i think of David Tennant could seem the section, yet its all type without substance, and isnt a powerful sufficient actor. think of of the affection infant of Tom Baker bypass with Dick Van Dyke and one extra from Quadrophenia and you have the tenth well being care professional. observing sequence 2 & 3 you may desire to be forgiven for thinking that it fairly is yet another sci-fi programme different then well being care professional Who, i think of who's that this youthful guy prattling on. I additionally think of that they could desire to lose the affection arc between the companion and the well being care professional in short i do no longer discover Tennants portrayal of the well being care professional convincing. Its no longer the programme I fell in love with somewhat!

Doctor Who questions?

There are so many fantastic answers already!

Here's my disclaimer: Yes, I'm old enough to have watched Doctor Who starting sometime in Patrick Troughton's tenure, but I never ever saw any of it until the Sci-Fi Channel showed "The Unquiet Dead" in 2006 (Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper). So keeping that in mind:

1 - Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant rotate in and out of my #1 spot. They're so very different, and yet you can see how they are the same person. I have seen a dozen of Tom Baker's episodes and thought he was great, and I fell in love with Peter Davison during "Time Crash." But CE and DT will always have that top spot for me.

2 - Blink!!! NuWho series 1 - Father's Day and The Parting of the Ways. Series 2 - Tooth and Claw, Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. Series 3 - Blink, Human Nature/Family of Blood. Series 4 - Fires of Pompeii, The Doctor's Daughter

3 - If "monster" means "alien bad guys", then it's the Master and those Weeping Angels. If "monster" means "fantastical non-human creature", then hands-down it's the Face of Boe. (I don't care what Russell T Davies said, that is NOT the future of Captain Jack.)

4 - Anywhere and Anywhen! I want to visit the Ood-Sphere. I'd like to visit the eastern Tennessee and Kentucky mountain counties where my ancestors lived, and be able to watch them (especially my mom's parents, who I never knew, and my dad's parents, who I miss dreadfully now that they're gone). I want to meet Abraham Lincoln. And I would really really really like to take Arthur Dent a new bathrobe and maybe a pair of jeans and a tee.

5 - Rose, and Captain Jack! I cry every time I watch Doomsday. I loved Sarah Jane in series 2 and in Sarah Jane Adventures. I like Martha better now that she's a grown-up. And I dearly love Donna. I hate that we only get her one season. If I could choose a future companion, I would pick Sarah Jane, Sally Sparrow from "Blink", and Ianto Jones from the spin-off Torchwood.

Doctor Who's Billie Piper...?

Apparently she had some veneers applied to her upper front teeth and isn't used to them yet, hence the lisp. Lisping for a few months after having heavy veneers is a common occurence. FYI - Heavy veneers are those which are applied to existing teeth where as lite veneers are normally the same size as the original teeth which get filed down and the veneers adhered to them. Lite veneers are uber expensive and not generally created\fitted very well outside of specialist surgeries in the united states and so a lot of people are opting for the heavy type. You also need to have very good roots etc for the lite type as otherwise they will decay and fall out even before the original teeth would have. If I had to guess I would say that the scenes at the beginning where done as part of a re-shoot as later in the episode there were a couple of close-up scenes of Billie's face and she definately hadn't had any work done at that stage. When smiling\speaking in the scene where the bug thing is revealed to Donna she had what looked very much like her own teeth on display (if they weren't her own then she needs a better dental surgeon!).

What are the best Doctor Who stories ever?

Fun stuff - well, as an old-time fan, I'm gonna claim the same indulgence as some others... From the "original" series: 1. Genesis of the Daleks - gorgeously grim, with a soaring performance from Michael Wisher as Davros. A lot of toing and froing, certainly, but a believable world that could have given birth to the Daleks. 2. Spearhead From Space - Shop Dummies From Hell, or the Autons as they SHOULD be done kick off Jon Pertwee's era. 3. Earthshock - A genuinely shocking return for the Cybermen, and a stunning return to form. 4. Robots of Death - Beautiful, scary, intense and paranoid, this still stands up today as an object lesson in sci-fi suspense. 5. The Time Meddler - The first time we see someone ELSE with a TARDIS, and a gorgeous central conceit - a time traveller who changes things just because he can! And from the new show: 1. Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - Jacobi and Simm giving absolutely barnstorming Masters, and providing a world that is genuinely grim. 2. Midnight - The modern version of Robots of Death, a scintillating paranoia story with an uncomfortable ending. 3. Blink - Redefined the Doctor-Lite story and raised the bar way above most writers' heads. 4. Dalek - Rob Shearman re-imagined the oldest enemy in a brand new, utterly believable way. The Daleks have gone back downhill since this story. 5. Turn Left - Catherine Tate's tour de force - again, showing a grim alternate reality that was frighteningly real in its human nastiness. Spoiled only by a cheap animatronic bug.

What's Your Favorite Series of Doctor Who?

As entire series of Doctor Who go there's nothing to beat original series 13 with Tom Baker. All other series of Doctor Who have had at least one or two below par stories, but in series 13 every single one was a classic - "Terror of the Zygons", "Planet of Evil", "The Pyramids of Mars", "The Android Invasion", "The Brain of Morbius" and "The Seeds of Doom". Not a single dud story among them.

As far as the new series goes, series 3 was outstanding. The writing, storytelling, production values and acting were second to none, and it included absolute classics like "Human Nature / Family of Blood" and "Blink". The worst episodes of series 3 (the Dalek two parter and The Lazarus Experiment) actualy stood up well against much of series 2.

That being said, series 2 had some great episodes like "Girl in the Fireplace", "Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel", "The Impossible Planet / Satan Pit" and "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday". Unfortunately there was also ridiculously childish dross like "Fear Her", the nonsensical Doctor Who send up that was "Love and Monsters", the weakly comedic series opener "New Earth", the disappointingly rushed story lines of "Tooth and Claw" and "School Reunion" and the below par "Idiots lantern".

Looking at the dramatic quality of series 2 overall and considering that David Tennant was really still finding his feet as the Doctor and Billie Piper always seemed more comfortable with Christopher Ecclestone, I think it was actually the weakest of the three new series so far. Series 3 was a big improvement, and I hope the forthcoming series 4 maintains the standard that it set.

Doctor Who fans - what do you think to the new episodes?

The decent episode with the Darleks has been the best yet but I must be honest, on average the series is very very poor! lots of effects etc. but storylines have been poor! abit too much push a button and everyone is saved! with no real depth?? I think its improven though, should be more like the classic episodes where you have creature lurking in the dark, not giving away too much til later! what we have now is everything in your face! nothing to keep you wondering? I don't like being presented with a new monster each week after 2-3 minutes into the story! oh its a fat one, oh? the bad guy is a robot? do you know what I mean? acting in the new series is genrally poor! don't say its better than the old series? there has been many great/famous actors who have been in Doctor who! not everyone was great but you cant compare a handful of modern series to 25 years of the classics!

I love the old series by far!! people say the new is better because of the special effects? that tells you how far their imagination goes :( my fav period if you want to pin-point my personal choice is the first and second season of Tom baker, most have to agree with me here :) it was creepy, dark, funny, good storylines, Sarah Jane Smith :) it had it all :) I like the seeds of Doom, Genesis of the darleks, Terror of the zylons :) that was the stuff :)

I wish all of Patrick Troughtons episodes were about :( he possibly could be my fav doctor, the pixie character he produced was very cool. I feel sorry for Colin Baker who got a short deal in the 80's, I have always felt he was growing to become a brilliant doctor! eventhough his start was abit shaky! but we will never know :( as for the other doctors, Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison was always outstanidng, mccoy was not bad but had too many dumb storylines! that bugged his character. I look back now and see how the BBC still continues with that late 80's lack of storyline fashion?? stupid characters! stupid ideas!

one last thing, if you never heard of Blake 7? you must watch that series if you like classic sci tv, easily as good or maybe better than doctor who :)

Are the real early episodes of Doctor Who as bad as they say?

Not a big fan of Hartnell era - they just hadn't gotten their groove yet and the Doctor's character hadn't developed (Ian actually has to stop the Doctor from killing someone in cold blood in one of the really early episodes). But they were obviously doing something right since it was too popular to cancel when their lead actor started deteriorating fast. And most of the main monsters are also from that era. I find it unspeakably sad so many were erased, we'll never get that chunk of Doctor Who history back. I actually love Troughton, he's quirky and funny yet sad, much like Tennant - yeah the effects were cheesy as all get out but come on - this was the late 60s - computers were in their infancy - what were they supposed to do - time travel? Pertwee I haven't seen much of but the Tom Baker era is fantastic. Yeah you have to ignore the special effects but the acting is fantastic and the writing is superb - especially when Douglas Adams, the lord and master of funny sci-fi, was working for them. The writing went sharply downhill after Davison took over, although he himself was very good, and when the story is also crappy is becomes hard to ignore the crappy effects anymore. The Colin Baker era is when it really fell apart, it did get better with Sylvester McCoy but I think they were just tired of it by then and it needed a break to be brought back fresh later. I'm going to guess you're a teenager since you seem to have no ability to appreciate or even respect what came before. Yeah the effects were crap but for the majority of the time the writing and acting more than made up for it. I'd rather see a well written, well acted show with laughable special effects than a effects extravaganza with a pathetic story line and cardboard actors. I actually find the old effects somewhat charming - they did what they could with the resources they had. I'd hate to see the old ones all redone - Lucas ruined the old Star Wars movies trying to update them. Have a little appreciation for history.
