Can surgeons wear any shoes?

I am a surgeon and i wear cowboy boots to the OR routinely. And no, i do not live or come from Texas.Shoes serve a purpose in the OR like they do in most other situations. They protect your feet from guts and gore that sometimes escapes the operative field. They provide a firm/hopefully comfortable footing to stand on during those long days of operating and hopefully not leave the OR with plantar fascitis or generally achy feet.Some surgeons prefer clogs since they are usually waterproof, comfortable and easy to slip your feet in and out of if u want ur toes fo breath while ur hands are doing the hard work. I personally did not find them comfortable even with orthotics and usually had foot pain at the end of the day.More recently i have tried vibram fivefingers. While they give the most natural support/protection to my feet, they do catch some unwanted attention and they are not particularly water/blood proof so i have to make sure i put shoe covers on them. Also in cardiac surgery ORs when the room is freezing at baseline, i do feel like my toes will get frost bite unless i wear woolen toe socks with them.Some will even go barefoot, especially when sitting on the robotic console, which brings up a whole slew of questions related to hygeine, but hey, its ur feet and ur health.Some make it a point to have separate shoes for the OR to minimize cross contamination between the Or and outside world. But you can easily avoid that with shoe covers.So in short, you can wear pretty much any shoe to the OR that serves the purpose, although some more unconventional choices may raise some eyebrows.

My girlfriend likes to wear short and revealing clothes and she attracts attention. I feel I have a responsibility to keep her safe and protected. We'll be in separate countries in 2 months and I won't be there to watch over her. What do I do?

I like the way people totally blamed the guy here. Have you ever thought about how this guy is feeling here? Revealing dresses are made to impress people and for attraction. Mini skirts with high heels , short tight dresses in which everytime you’ve to manage how you’re sitting and walking, are they comfy? Being a girl i know they are not! These clothes are made for attraction and for make women feel better about themselves as well. Thats why its appropriate to wear them only in right suitable places or where her boyfriend would be with her.Imagine a attractive body guy going shirtless in a club and his girlfriend isnt with him. Wont she feel bad? Okay imagine a guy wearing running lower in a date. Wont his girlfriend go angry, telling him to wear something good? In a relationship couples have every right to let each other know what they feel about things they do INCLUDING DRESSING! they should have good understanding between each other.I have seen many answers blaming always guys in everything. To be honest i dont like people with thoughts like women have right to do everything, they shouldnt be stopped from doing anything. Yes they have every right to do anything in the world they want afterall its 2017 man! Everyone has their rights. But the same women also stops their men from doing so many things. I think they do should respect each other and should be treated equally. And also know their limits when they are couples.Btw I have worlds most kindest and understanding boyfriend who taught me about theses things :)

If a patient is dead when we arrive, we confirm death usually by physical exam and confirming asystole (no heart activity) in two leads on the cardiac monitor.If the person’s death is expected, usually in a very elderly person, or someone who’s been under a doctor’s care for a possibly terminal condition, we call the emergency room doctor, who is our medical control physician, and he signs off on the death. Often the patient has advanced directives asking for no CPR or intubation, we respect the patient’s wishes and do not try to resuscitate.If it is a younger person, or the death is unexpected, we call the police, in my state, a death of a child is automatically a State Police case.We stay with the family and explain that there is nothing we can do for the deceased. We will call family and friends or clergy for them. Usually we will help the funeral home load the body.
