Does A Different Spelling Of A Popular Name Make A Name Unique

Unique and Different Spellings!?

Brittanie is the only one I can think of.

Please though, don't give your child a rediculously spelled name. People think that they're making their child different, but they're really just
A) Setting their child up for teasing and
B) Giving them the annoyance of having to constantly pronounce their name for everyone.

Good luck to you!

A question about unique and different spellings of names?

Hi, everyone! Okay, so if you're obsessed with names like I am, then you've probably noticed how popular the "Aidan" names are lately. Being in the Y!A babyname section quite a bit, I've always taken note that many people are believers in using different, even weird spellings to make a name more unique and to help it stand out.

Well, I got this list from Nameberry.com. It shows all the variations of spellings of Aidan/Braden/Jaden/Hayden/Caden, etc. that were ranked in the top 1000 names last year.

Quite a shocker, huh? So, my question is, do you believe a different spelling really make a name that unique? They all sound the same when said aloud, but is it important to you that it looks different on paper? All opnions [from the lovers of different spellings to the ones who stick to tradition] are most definitely welcome! Thanks guys!

Do you prefer a name that is spelled like it sounds but is unique, or a common name that is spelled strangely?

I prefer a name that is spelled like it sounds but is unique, over a common name spelled strangely.First of all, I’ve got a documented history here on Quora for favoring unique names (within some reason), as you can see from, like, half of the answers I’ve written, so I won’t go into all that.As for common names with unique spellings, those have two strikes in my book. First of all, I’m not a super huge fan of common names. Secondly, if you spell it all funky, the kid’s going to get tired of telling people how to spell it before they’re halfway through elementary school. I can tell you that from experience, as my name is Zach but people always wanted to spell is Zack while I was growing up. It’s not a weird spelling, but I did get tired of people spelling it wrong until I finally decided to let go and quit caring about it. The principle is still the same though- it will, at the very least, be a source of annoyance for the kid.I will say that I do like common some names with a slight twist to them. I can’t really think of any examples at the moment, unfortunately, but if I do I’ll come back and give some examples.

Why do some parents avoid giving their children popular names?

As a parent myself, I wanted to go against the popular names, mostly because as any other parent I believe that my child is the best and is destined for great things, so why not make the name be the same - unique and powerful?I did not have enough financial resources to hire a naming consultant to come up with the exotic equivalent of Blue Ivy (Red Sequioa?), so I went with the next best thing. When a child is born, one religion (Hinduism) allows for a creation of a mandala - a life chart based on the location, date, time of birth. Based on that, a priest gives the first letter of the name to parents, and then parents are left to their own devices to pick a name..A word of caution - at that time (immediately after birth), both parents are pretty much exhausted and some (females) are overloaded with hormones, so I had to be reeeeallly careful. There were a number of other constraints on the name - it had to be easy enough to pronounce, and easy enough to spell, and meaningful enough to correspond to that mandala, just to name a few..All in all, it was pretty much a mission impossible.God was kind to me at that time, and there was just one name that stood out - in fact, it was the only name I could stomach - so it worked out beautifully (not sure if it was just a coincidence or an event that meant to fit powerfully with other events, divine intervention comes to mind for some reason) :) (It ended up being a rather unique name, much to my delight, but if it weren't a unique name, at least it would have been the one that fits my child.. I was named, for instance, based on the historic event which happened when I was born, without any particular stress on what would actually benefit me or reflect my personality.. Thanks, mom!)

Different ways to spell Michael?

There are many ways, Mikel or Mikelle (I have heard of people with those names, and yes, they are both guys, even the second one)... but it's a popular name... it'll look like you just don't know how to spell if you spell it differently...
Like there was a girl in my high school class. Her mother's name was spelt Elisabethe! It looked like whoever gave her the name heard of it and found it pretty, but didn't know how to spell it.
