Does Ankle Surgery Pain A Lot

How long does pain after ankle surgery (Brostrom procedure, specifically) last?

97 hours, 14 minutes and three seconds. No, sorry, wasn't trying to be flippant, but everyone is an individual and everyone has an individual response to pain. Ankle surgery is pretty painful surgery, and the pain could last for a week to six weeks, and rehab could be somewhat uncomfortable after that. If the pain medication prescribed to you by your doctor isn't adequate to control the pain, tell him about it and see if he can prescribe something stronger. Meanwhile, do not aggrave the "injury" by attempting to walk or stand any more than absolutely necessary to get to the bathroom or the kitchen. If you have a partner living with you, they should be willing to bring you food and water while you're laid up. Be patient. It will eventually pass, but I can't tell you exactly when that will be. No one can.

How do I overcome knee pain after ankle surgery?

The fastest, safest, easiest, and most leveraged form of physical therapybefore leg surgery (to strengthen the leg) or after (to recover lost strength) has to be Blood Flow Restriction Training/Therapy because it so strongly activates your body’s own powerful survival responses to stimulate blood circulation and generate growth hormones and stem cells needed for recovery. Almost all professional sports teams are now using Blood Flow Restriction Training to get their injured players back on the field more quickly. This type of therapy is especially important for older patients who may not have good response to normal physical therapy and are unable to do the heavy weight training that used to be thought necessary to build strength. Ideally this should be done with the advice and assistance of your doctor and physical therapist, but finding one experienced in this may be difficult. Therapy clinics haven’t figured out how to get more revenue for healing you in 5 sessions instead of 15 or 20.Here is an excellent article by Dr. Jill Carnahan that explains it much better (in layman’s terms) than I can.Hack Your Recovery with Blood Flow Restriction Training - Jill Carnahan, MD

How long can you wait before having surgery for an ankle fracture? Can you wait a day or two?

I see by other answers there were/are details in your question I'm not seeing.Just based on the straight question of waiting for a couple days-yes, you have to.There's a hell of a lot of swelling that occurs over the first 72 hours that distorts the tissue and blood vessels, making it very hard to identify anything. Sure, there's tissue and there's bone, but there's nerves and lymphatic vessels too. They're a bitch to see in a confusion of swollen tissue.I waited three days before even seeing the surgeon who scheduled surgery several days later. I was splinted, non weight bearing and had pain control. There was nothing more than the tincture of time to be done. But my surgery was an open reduction of an internal fracture. There's so many flavored of broken bones, it's hard to make generalizations.Always get a second opinion (from a different group than your surgeon if possible) if it feels wrong. But waiting for a few days after the initial fracture is standard. Rest, ice, elevation as well as splinting and Norco are the best way to get through the first days of inflammation. Rest and heal.

Could knee pain be related to ankle surgery?

I broke my ankle and had surgery putting in plates and screws, then having the plates and screws removed a year later when I was 14. My ankle has never felt the same, and my doctor said I kept using the side of my foot, instead of my heel when walking. I have become used to using the side of my foot, because walking on my left heel is so uncomfortable.

I'm 18 now, the past year I've experienced pain in my left knee, mainly on the inside and right above the knee cap. It occasionally looks bruised up, even when I haven't hit it on anything. Also, the pain isn't regular. It seems to come on randomly, and sometimes when my ankle doesn't even hurt.

The last thing is my pinky toe. My pinky toe on my left foot, it hurts pretty bad when I wear shoes (actually I usually don't feel it until I take the shoe off, weird?) And it's on a consistent basis.

I'm wondering if there's any relation? Or any tips on what I can do? I'm currently wearing supportive insoles, but I haven't seen a difference yet.

Ankle surgery in cast, blood rush to foot causing pain, advice?

my mom had the something done in august and she still suffers. she was in so much pain. no matter what you do it will always stay swollen. She had ice on it continuously with may ice packs. But DO get therapy or he will have problems and possibly walk with a limp. She now walks with a cane. she has the option to get the screws taken out but she is not going to because of the continuous pain. she has a therapist she goes to and he helps her so much that she only uses her cane sometimes. she now has arthritis and he told her if she would have started sooner he could have avoided getting arthritis. I feel so bad for him, tell him i am so so sorry that that has happened. If you need more advice, please let me know!!! email if you need to........

Microfracture ankle surgery 3 weeks ago, severe pain foot and toes normal?

Hi - let me first offer my sympathies for your pain.

I'm not a doctor but what you're describing makes a condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) sound like a possibility. This is a neuropathic pain syndrome (that I suffer from a severe from of) that can sometimes develop after trauma - an injury, surgery or whatever. How would you describe your pain? Is it throbbing, aching, burning, pounding, etc.? Do you have any other signs - are your feet and toes normal colour and temperature, or do they change compared to your other foot? Have a look online - take it with a pinch of salt as the saying goes, because a lot of it is somewhere between worst-case scenario, exaggeration and misinformation, but if you feel that CRPS may be a possibility you need to raise it with your doctor, as the best chance of successful treatment comes from early diagnosis and management - usually physiotherapy and nerve blocks or medications that target nerve pain.

Without knowing more of your symptoms, I won't say more, but feel free to email me if you wish.

Regards

Smoking marijuana after ankle surgery is it ok?

Getting stoned right after surgery may cause you to hurt it worse than it is already, I had a friend in a car accident who hurt his leg bad, did something stupid and hurt it worse, he lost that leg. Don't push your luck. Anything that can go wrong will.

How much does it hurt to break your ankle?

My oldest was in junior roller derby. My wife got some skates to go practice with her.One day I got a call at work. My wife had tried to do a knee stop at a nearby tennis court. She had stopped quickly on the non-slip court- too quickly. She had sat on, and broken her right ankle.Off I went. I scooped her off the court. Got the kids in the car. Drove to the emergency room. She wasn’t in much pain- yet.The surgery is what hurt. Her ankle joint was loose. You could see it in the real time X-ray: the foot side was just floating around in the joint as the surgeon articulated it.It took six screws and a steel plate to make it right. My wife has a cute scar that looks like a big centipede now.She described the pain of recovery as worse than childbirth. She would know.Try not to break your ankle.

Are spasms and twitching normal after ankle surgery?

I broke and dislocated my fibula on January 1st. On the 14th I had surgery and now have seven screws in my ankle. It's been about a week since my surgery and I have been getting spasms, twitches, a small burning sensation, itching, and pins and needles on my bad leg. Are any of these normal?

Also, I'm not allowed to bear any weight on my leg, but I'm also very clumsy with my crutches. I know it's not ideal for me to accidentally bump my bad foot, but would it possibly slow down my recovery time? I'm not in pain, and when I do hit my foot, the pain is brief.

Swelling 5 months after ankle surgery? Should I be worried?

I had surgery to lengthen my achilles tendon (gastroc recession) 5 months ago today and just before I got in the shower I noticed a lot of swelling in the ankle region just below my scar. There is also a bump (a knot maybe?) right where the swelling starts. I know you can swell a long time after surgery but my swelling was ALWAYS associated with at least some pain and now theres not any pain, maybe a little stiffness, but no pain. Im going back to work in a week and I am convinced that I will be fired if I tell my boss that I still cant come back to work after 5 months, which I completely understand but I will be sooo embarrassed. (my job entails standing for 5 hrs) Am I being too worrisome or should I talk to my doctor?? did this happen to you? experiences please! thx... and mature answers only!
