Does Any Career Make More Than Engineers

Do doctors earn more than engineers? Why or why not?

The average doctor earns more than the average engineer; though engineers working as Software Engineers or in the oil industry may earn the same and sometimes more. Also engineering graduates are more likely than any other graduate in terms of their major to become a millionaire. One in ten engineering graduates in the UK and the USA are millionaires say reports posted online. Next in line in the millionaires club are Law, then Finance graduates. The university attended is another factor in relation to becoming a millionaire. There are league tables for that factor as well. Info like that can be found on websites such as www.therichest.com  In America how much you will earn as a doctor is also dependent on your speciality. GP's earn as little as $150000 per year on average, while surgeons and consultant  anaesthetists earn on average about $350000.There are US websites listing the top 10 highest paid occupations by US state that can be found on Google. Those sites quote doctors salaries by speciality. Drilling engineers are the only nonmanegerial engineering job I know of that pays more than what the average surgeon in America makes. Experienced oil well drilling engineers earn more than $500k per annum. The rub is there are not many of them.

Do engineers make more money than doctors???

on the whole... no. most engineers start making $50k-60k / year (after 4 years of college). most doctors make even less than that after 8 years of school (during their residency/intern period)... however, after that they tend to make substantially more (150k or more).

however, 8 years out of college, some engineers who have moved on to management (or have pursued advanced degrees while working, such as a masters) might make 80-90 k / year

so, on average a doctor will make alot more during his lifetime, but he will have had to bust his butt working for it in school (med school is no joke)

whereas an engineer can live comfortably after 4 yrs of college and make some extra money with an advanced degree later in his career path

Why do cops make more than engineers?

Here are some typical police salaries that I found on line:

Pittsburgh, PA 144 $36,501 to $55,303
San Bernardino, CA 141 $53,424 to $77,112
North Las Vegas, NV 140 $46,745 to $67,152
Henderson, NV 137 $47,986 to $70,907
Columbus, OH 133 $36,358 to $55,682
Austin, TX 133 $42,246 to $74,762
Peoria, IL 133 $38,805 to $59,046
Reno, NV 130 $41,739 to $57,197
Las Vegas, NV 133 $43,819 to $68,742
Warren, MI 129 $43,948 to $69,123
Ontario, CA 128 $48,256 to $71,611
Elizabeth, NJ 125 $40,795 to $73,536

Here are some median engineer salaries in the US

Specialty Median
Aerospace engineers $92,520
Agricultural engineers 68,730
Biomedical engineers 77,400
Chemical engineers 84,680
Civil engineers 74,600

As you see, based on "median" salaries, engineers make considerable more then you median police "base" salary. That does not include supervisory officers, or officers who work a great deal of overtime.

Most engineers do not have post graduate degrees (although a fair number do). A fair amount of police have undergraduate degrees at a minimum.

Engineers do not get shot at.

Engineers do not have pick up dead bodies off the highway.

Engineers do not have to arrest teenage mothers who have murdered their babies.

Engineers don't have to work rotating shifts around the clock on weekends and holidays.

I have friends who are engineers. They have never been shot, stabbed, punched, kicked, bitten, spit on or vomited on. I have in my 40 years as police officer. I don't feel the least bit bad about making ALMOST as much as my friends who are engineers.

Why do sales people get paid more than software engineers / developers?

I was going to keep my mouth shut, but what the heck.Sorry if this comes off a tad mean. For all you engineers who think you worked hard in school, have multiple degrees, and are at the top of your game — I’m sorry. You are not the top of the food chain. Don’t worry, I’m not in sales either, so Im a shmuck just like you.The people who really make big money are in sales. Sure you might make a great living as a valued engineer, but you don’t know what big money is until you see what your sales team makes.Back at my old job, we used to purchase millions of dollars in hardware from EMC storage, HDS, Sun Micro, etc. Pricey stuff. I think a Sun Enterprise 10k blade server costed me about 75–90k. Each. And that’s the price without any storage yet. Now we go get some from EMC which costed many multiples more.Imagine you are a top salesperson at these companies and sell a few of these things for 3 million dollars today. Lets assume you get a 10% commission for argument’s sake. That’s 300k USD, not including your salary. In one day. When’s the last time you made that kind of money as an engineer? It sometimes takes a lot of work to bring new sales to fruition while other times it's just easy repeat sales. Whatever it is, that commission is earned. As an engineer at a typical company, the business owners decide the product to build. They spec it out in detail. You implement. Remember that. You did not bring in the customers. The salespeople did. Sure you had a part in making the product successful, but in the end, no matter how good your code is, your salary wouldn’t exist if the sales team didn’t identify a market and bring in the customers to pay for it. Not all salespeople are great either, but those get fired pretty fast.Salespeople don’t get high salaries, but if they are good at sales, they are easily going to make 2x, 5x, 20x your salary as an engineer.

Do lawyers make more money than engineers?

It depends on how successful you are.

Lawyers usually have to work their way up in a big firm, over a long period or time, start their own practice, or leverage other expertise to get a good corporate gig, before seeing a lot of money.

Entry-level engineers make good money, but hit a pay ceiling unless they have their own companies, are principals in an engineering firm, or go into management.

Civil Engineer Salary?

In my internship one of the 5 year engineers told me you want to be making $80,000 at the 10 year mark of your career. Is that too high or unrealistic? My boss who had 10 years experience was making $85,000. It was a public position so I was able to look up his salary.

I started my first job last year at $50,000. I received a 4% raise this year bringing me up to $52,000 per year. At a 4% increase yearly I'll be at $74,000 in 10 years. Is that low, high, or average for the 10 year mark?

Will my salary start to increase by more or less than 4% as my career progresses?

Also I'm currently employed with a private consulting firm. Isn't private suppose to make more than public (benefits aside).

Do Architects or engineers make more money?

It varies wildly. You have to specify which type of engineer or architect.

You could make more money ($100K +) with just a 4 year degree as a mechanical or chemical engineer within the first 5 years. However, an architect is probably going to need a more advanced degree to make that kind of salary that quickly.

Who makes more? Engineers or accountants?

Hi
Interesting question.
I think that all the accountants I know are fairly safe people who have made quite a lot of money. But they don't seem to have any spark, and almost always end up being boring people. (been everywhere, done everything, but still boring)
Engineers on the other hand almost always end up doing something else, like running software companies,
sailing around the world, losing it all and making it back again!
I'd go for chemical engineering. Then do the other stuff.
Good Luck with the choice!
