My advice is take one step at a time.So presuming you are starting out from scratch with no budget there are several things you can do to get started.1) Look for collaboratorsUse the internet to your advantage. Go on forums through sites such as Reddit or Gumtree and look for producers who are looking for singers. Many producers look for singers to collaborate with and write songs together…therefore you would not need any money to do this. If you find a producer who is relatively new in the game they would be willing to work for free if you split the songwriting credits on the songs you write together. By working with a producer you should be able to record a demo of your song that should hopefully be to a good enough standard.2) Focus on the musicForget about making a music video and focus more on the music. You should only start thinking about music videos when you already have a few songs recorded. Get your sound perfected. There is no point on having a music video when your song sucks!3) Use social mediaOnce you have your songs recorded, get on all the social medias and promote yourself. Try and make friends within the community to build up a rapport between your peers. The more people that know about your music the better. You have to work equally as hard at promoting yourself as you do on the music. You can’t expect to put your song on the internet and for people to magically hear it. Promoting yourself through actively engaging with people on social media is free so there is no excuse not to do it.4) Email industry peopleOnce you feel your music is ready you should email as many relevant people in the industry as possible. A little research online and you can find the emails of managers, a&r’s, publishers, record label executives etc etc. Keep your email precise and to the point and have a link to your music (with no more than 4 songs) early in the email. Whatever you do do not email a whole bunch of different a&r’s in the one email through cc. Send each email separately and try and personalise it so the a&r feels like you are a fan of their work. They will appreciate it.In conclusion, it is definitely possible to get yourself started in the music industry even with no money. It just requires a lot of hard work, determination and hustle.

What kind of music do you sing? If country, your best bet is probably to move to Nashville. If other music, I'm not sure where you go, but I think a good start is to make a CD, as professional as you can. You can go to one of those studios and make one. But you usually have to have written your own songs or find songs that are not illegal to reproduce. Then you can sell the CD and maybe the right person will hear. Sing publicly as many places as you can find to hear you. Listen to constructive criticism. Start a website! Put samples of your singing on there! Good luck EDIT: I also want to add this: If you can really sing, you should not have to pay people an exorbitant amount to promote you. Please beware of "vultures" who are out to only make money for themselves. And beware of those who will tell you you are good and take lots of money from you and get you nowhere. If you are really good, you will find someone who will be willing to go out on a limb for you. They won't take your money because they believe in you, and they believe that you will make it.
