How to make a private area on Minecraft server?

My brother told me there is a command you can use to enchant blocks, doors, chests etc. If they try and open a door or chest that's enchanted, it will say "This door/chest is locked my magical powers, or something along the lines of that. If they try and destroy a block, it says "You cannot destroy this block" or something similar. I haven't seen them, but my brothers enchanted a few doors and chests. I'll try it out later, see if it's true!

How much Internet data does hosting a small minecraft server use?

It really depends if the server has a lot of mods installed to be downloaded by friends.
The average per user an hour
Sent: 1.4 MB
Received: 15.5 MB

x Times this with the number of people on and that's about how much data you will use up every hour.

So in your case we will use 5 people.

5 x 15.5 MB =
Data usage per hour would be around 77MB

How to update an iMac G4 to run a Minecraft server?

according to the forum and other sources powerpc macs can only go up to java 5 and java 6+ is needed for recent minecraft versions
so no, you simply cant run minecraft on your powerpc mac.

p.s. it might be possible if you could run a ppc linux distro that works with java. you'd have to look into it though.

What steps should I take to start my own Minecraft server where players are invite-only?

First of all I'd like to tell you that unless you know hundreds of people who play Minecraft and are close to you, your server will not be very popular, so don't bother putting it on server lists. So if making a popular server is your goal, don't make it invite only. If you just want a private server to play on with friends, read onFirst get some friends to play on the server with, talk about what gametype you want.Next, either host the server on your computer (Won't be able to handle more than a few players at a time, and won't be up 24/7) or get a dedicated server from a Minecraft hosting company.Make sure you enable whitelist in your server.properties. Simply add the players names that you want to allow to join in the whitelist.json file.Restart your server. That's pretty much it.

Best Minecraft Server Host for Noobs?

I REALLY want to start a Minecraft server soon, but im 14 and I don't know Javascript or C++ so I am going to rent one. I tried DaddyCheese but MulitCraft is complicated and still yet manages to not do very much. I am wanting a small server that is cheap and still has great amounts of options and is intuitive. My friend has a server (76.19.233.98:25566) that lets you set protection areas, telaport people, and do a lot more than this could. I am hoping to make a little cash by selling protection area and selling Admin. Who should I go with? But if corners need to be cut i would prefer a complicated interface with lots of options rather than vice versa. Also I want to add plug ins later on (thanks and I know I'm probably asking too much...)
