Does Anybody Know How To Touch Up A Spot On A White Vinyl Garage Door

Does the protective coating car dealerships pitch really make a difference?

I work at a dealership, and paint protection is one of the products offered with new car purchases. Whether it's worth it or not depends on the person and how important the paint appearance is to them. If small spots, tree pitch marks, and stains from bird droppings don't bother you, and you have a light-colored car (the darker the paint, the more visible any imperfections will be) it may not make sense for you to get it. Below is a photo I took of a client's car - she is here because bird droppings on the hood weren't cleaned off soon enough and it etched the paint. Paint protection that is offered at our dealership comes with a 7-year warranty, which means if something like this happens, it will be fixed or the damaged panel will be repainted at no extra charge. Modern clear coats are water-based more eco- and human- friendly but prove easier to damage.Get it if:-You typically like to keep your car pristine, and getting spots and stains will bother you-Your budget allows itDon't get it if you are leasing. Manufacturer won't charge you for every spot and scratch, especially if it's minor.Whether you purchase paint protection or not, clean bird droppinngs and tree pitch as soon as you possibly can, and avoid parking under trees! You'd be surprised how much damage those substances can do, especially if left out to bake in the sun.P.S. Please excuse the quality of the photo. I hope it's helpful!

What lubricant would work best for a sliding glass door on a house?

First of all, it should never be necessary to lubricate the top track. It the door is rubbing the top track, then you have larger problems than you can/want to handle yourself. Replacing the rollers (roller assemblies) might cure your problem, but as Mr. Streiff advised, " You do not own the property and its maintenance and upkeep is the landlord's responsibility". If the landlord is unwilling to fix the problem, suggest to her that you will fix it if she will deduct the cost from your rent. Then get it in writing, even it is just an e-mail. But before going that far, try adjusting the roller assemblies at each end of the door. Most sliding glass doors are adjustable, as it is common for the wheels to wear down, and the door to drag on the bottom of the track. Turn the adjusting screw so that the wheel comes down and the door rises. Use graphite on the wheels. I do not recommend anything else. There are a couple of 'dry' lubricants, on the market, but I have not had enough feedback/experience with them to be sold on their use. If you must replace the wheels/wheel assembly, then you need to remove them and take the best looking one to your local hardware department. There are many different styles and sizes, so you will need to match the old one to be sure of a proper fit. Sometimes, you can get away with just replacing the wheels. If you cannot tell if you have the kind that allows just the replacing of the wheel, ask the salesman. If neither of you are sure, buy the entire assembly. The price difference is usually not that much. I, personally, have always replaced the entire assembly. If the wheel is worn that bad, I know that the wheel frame is the same age, with same amount of wear. Why take the chance of having to open her back up again in a few months to replace the rest of the thing.Moose from toolboxzone.com

How to add shine to painted kitchen cabinets ?

Almost anyone can paint a room in your house. But there are certain techniques & guidelines to follow that will make your painting project shine.

Trim, molding, and corners – If you’re repainting or adding a new color to a room, the first thing you want to do is paint the woodwork and trim. Then, move on to surface areas around outlets, knobs and those hard-to-reach corners. This should give you a nice outline of the room. Now mask off any areas that you don’t want painted, and finish the walls and ceilings with a roller. This spreads the paint out evenly and quickly.

Brick walls or masonry – Use a drop cloth and roller to keep the floor or patio clean from paint speckles. Outside painting of garage walls may require some prep work. Scrape off old paint and built-up dirt. Paint the wall with a roller and then use a brush for areas that can only be reached by hand. Window trim and doors should also be painted by hand.

Vinyl siding – The home’s vinyl siding is usually maintenance-free, but if you have some touch-up work to do, the best route is exterior paint. Make sure to purchase paint made specifically for vinyl siding. This type of siding will expand & contract with the temperature. You’ll need paint that’s made specifically for vinyl siding. And don’t add a darker color. This can do damage to the siding because of the additional heat it will absorb.

Wood siding - First, remove damaged or rotting wood. You might have to cut away some of the vegetation to get to the wood, but this will help you when painting the new siding. Now that you have a clear view of the siding, scrape away old paint. Before installing the new boards, sand down the planks so that the primer soaks into the wood more easily. After the primer has dried, add a couple coats of paint, and your new siding should be good for at least 4-5 years.

Can exterior paint be used to paint an interior room?

The exterior paint has to go through a lot of weathering conditions, in comparison to the interior paint.  The Sunlight, Rain, Wind and the Heat to mention a few, apart from the environmental pollutants.   As against these, there can be certain compromises in the formulation, like a rougher finish in comparison to the interior paint.  The composition of the exterior paint has hence been tailored, to meet the above conditions.  The two major ingredients through which the above parameters are met, are mainly the Binder and also the Pigments.  In a small measure, it could also be the additives like flow agents and surface active agents.  While the binders are selected on the basis of Impermeability,Resistance to UV (Ultra Violet light from the sun) Degradation, Capacity to withstand Thermal and Mechanical Shock and Abrasion Resistance.  The Binders used are mainly the Latex Resins or Cross linked Acrylic Emulsions. The Pigments selected are mainly UV resistant.  Using a higher proportion of Titanium Dioxide- Rutile Grade and a lesser proportion of Titanium Dioxide - Anatase Grade, Inorganic Pigments like the Chromes and Ochres and lesser percentage of Organic Pigments which are light fast and are not water soluble. This leads to a restriction, in terms of the colours or shades you can choose from. The question is, what will happen if you used this paint on the interior walls?  Nothing, except that the finish may not be smooth, and you shall have limited colour options and paying a higher price for a comparable interior paint.  While the question of colour option could be overcome by tinting, the finish you get out of an interior paint, shall be absent, if you use an exterior paint for the interior.

How to repair finish coming off leather couch?

Please please ignore all the other ridculous suggestions about what is happening here and how to repair it.
Of course leather on furntiure is properly tanned it wouldn't be leather otherwise. Yes it does have a painted surface but this is very sophisticated. It is still leather and leather has had a painted (pigmented) surface for years (unless it is aniline style leather). Leather is not vinyl even when it has a pgmented coating.

Breakdown of finish is a common problem I'm afraid. You have not said how old your couch is but if it is less than 1 year old then you need to go back to the retailer as this is a manufacturing fault.
Many finishes on leather now are not as good as they used to be (particularly on the imports from China) and they do break down easier than they did.

Finish can also be broken down by using incorrect cleaning and care products particularly some conditioners or solvent based products (cleaners in aerosol cans can cause this).

If the couch is a single colour and the rest of the finish is OK you need to get some finish to apply (the original finish will have been a nitrocellulose type finish) DO NOT use any type of shoe finishing products on this. Adding glue to the surface will certainly not solve the problem and may make it unrepairable by a specialist.
If the rest of the finish shows signs of peeling or if you have another colour underneath you will need to get a qualified leather techniican to do the repair.

It is best to get this job done now as the problem will only get worse over time and eventually the leather will start to deteriorate.

Hope this helps

How long can asbestos stay in air?

Asbestos can stay in the air almos indefinitely if there is air movement to keep it airborne. The other answer about 48 to 72 hours is also correct, but my understanding for that is it is a room with no one moving around or HVAC to cause air movement. The air clearance is 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter. If I did the conversion correctly (going from memory), that would = about 283 fibers per cubic foot. For a 1600 sf house with an 8 foot ceiling you could have about 3,622,400 fibers in the air and still pass clearance. If there has been any weather the asbestos fibers should be blown away from the area. It would be difficult for a high enough fiber concentration to find its way into a house to be above clearance thresholds. Obviously we all prefer the asbestos concentration to be zero, so i understand you concern.
