Does Anyone Experience Shooting/needle Pain From Neck To Shoulder And What Treatments Help

Please help. How can I treat a pinched nerve in my neck until I can get in to see my chiropractor tomorrow?

Heat is usually the best remedy for a pinched nerve. A combination of heat and light pressure, like that from a good pressure shower head can help to relieve pain temporarily. Also, doing very slow, focused neck stretches like those commonly used in Tai Chi are excellent for relieving any type of pain in the neck area. Simply move your whole head to the right slowly, hold it there, then move back to center, then move your head slowly to the left, hold, and move back to center. Do this several times. If you are consistently getting pinched nerves you should become more aware of your posture to try to avoid this problem. This is what usually works for me, hope this helps.

I am having steroid shots in my neck for pain. Does anyone....?

Cortisone is typically used, sometimes mixed with lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) but doctors often have their own cocktail of drugs. They can be injected either directly into a muscle (normally called a trigger point injection) to help relax a muscle or directly into one of the joints in the neck. Make sure that the doctor is doing the procedure under x-ray guidance, otherwise he does not know whether he has it in the correct place which is causing you pain. (You should have had an MRI prior to this so they can determine what is causing you the pain.)

The shot itself does not take long to administer - around 15-20 minutes, but the prep time (getting you ready, etc) takes another 15-20 minutes. You will go home the same day with someone else driving for 24-48 hours. Normally no restrictions for 24-48 hours, just take it easy because you may be feeling a little dizzy or nauseous from the sedatives they normally give you.

In my experience, pain management doctors tend to give cortisone shots in a series of three, anywhere from 2-6 weeks apart. Sometimes just one shot works though and can give some relief for a few weeks or a couple of months. Everyone can respond differently to the shots in terms of their outcome. Sometimes they just mask the symptoms, other times they actually help to fix the underlying cause.

It is often helpful to resume physical therapy soon after the shot, i.e. within 2-3 days, as it often gives us a 'window of opportunity' to work in and try and help you. Check this with your doctor to see what he wants you to do.

Hope this is of some help to you! Good luck!

I am experiencing sharp periodic pains in right temple?

Look up a condition at http://www.webmd.com called Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have this and these are the pains I get. It started out in my temples when i first started having problems. Look it up and see if your symptoms match this condition. For relief now you can try a heating pad. This brings me the greatest instant relief, even quicker and better than prescription pain medications.

How do I get relief from shoulder pain?

I feel like most muscle pain can be helped or at least give relief by topical pain relief products. My brother has been a pitcher for a college team back in his younger days. He used to get really bad shoulder pain and had to sit out many of the games because the recovery time took too long and his pitching ended up suffering from it. A couple years ago, I was painting my house and fell off of a ladder. When I landed, I severely injured my shoulder and couldn’t sleep because of the pain. I called my brother and he told me about a technique he used from a coach that helped me recover quicker. He said to take a hot shower and let the warm water run over your shoulders. Letting the warm water run under the bottom side of your arm and rub your arm, while working the muscles and receiving the warm damp heat. The shoulder pain and arm pain (for me) kinda go hand in hand. While your in the shower/bath, let a bath towel soak in hot water - NOT SCALDING (very important). When you come out of the shower/bath, dry off, you should rub Absorbine Jr. | Home and over your shoulders, You'll want to do this while the pours of your skin are still open from the shower/bath.DO NOT not apply Absorbine Jr. under your arms (arm pits), nor on the neck or face, and not on the groin area (trust me I learned the hard way). After the Absorbine Jr. has been rubbed in, take the hot towel that's been soaking in hot water. Use a face towel to wring out the hot water - that way you won't be grabbing on to the hot water - the face towel will insulate your hands. Now wrap the hot towel gently around your shoulder and arm by first draping the towel over your shoulder and back so about 12 inches hangs of your shoulder blade. This warm moist heat combined with the Absorbine Jr. | Home that rubbed in well, will offer a relaxing condition to your muscles that will not only promote a great bounce back -for the next day. but you'll be far more sensitive to strains and other conditions that you wouldn't feel otherwise. This method that he taught me made all the difference. So try it for yourself and I hope it works like it did for me.

Sudden throbbing head pain in one side of head? What is wrong?

I had a sudden head pain yesterday while out with a friend, I ignored it so I did not look dramatic, but it really hurt was all of a sudden and was like a throbbing and aching pain, it was horrendous I took pain relief which I take for my occasional migraines but no relief. The pain is not like a migraine but I thought I may just be having a strange one, causing me to take the tablet, but it did not help. It is now happening again today and it is starting to worry me. It is a horrible pain and nothing is helping it. What is the cause? Should I be worried? It's on the right side of my head about an inch and a half up from my ear.

When Blowing a Balloon, why does it hurt on my face under my ear (on both sides)?

If you are blowing up many balloons by lung power and puffing out your cheeks, you are stretching tissues in that area that are not used to being flexed that way, at least for an extended period of time or repeatedly. Pay attention to see if your lower jaw is extending when you are puffing away, as this may contribute to the irritation or soreness. To treat this, STOP blowing up balloons with your mouth and get an electric blower made to inflate balloons.

What does a heart attack feel like?

I had a major heart attack in 2014, and here is my story:I woke up not feeling well - I couldn’t explain it… I just didn’t feel well.Around 9am, my mother and father stopped by; they had gone to the stations of the cross at the church right down the road. I began feeling a pain in my right arm, but I tried to ignore it. My mother looked at me and said that I didn’t look well, but I told her I was fine, so her and my father left. So, it was just me and my 23 year old son. He saw me rubbing my arm and asked me what was wrong. I told him I wasn’t sure - that it was like a pressure pain that was moving up my arm. He said it sounded like a heart attack, and I laughed because I thought that I was too young for a heart attack. In 2014 I was going to be 43, I believe.Anyhow, I told him that I was going to take a hot shower and put the water on my arm but that I was going to leave the door open in case I needed him to call someone. I got in the shower. At that point, the pain was in my upper arm and neck. I stood under the hot water and aimed on my neck, but it did not help. I was uncomfortable, but I managed to get out and get dressed.I then told my son that maybe a nap would make me feel better, but after just two minutes of lying down, I was too uncomfortable to bear it. I thought that I would do a breathing treatment to make myself feel better. To this day, I still wonder why in the world I thought that a breathing treatment would be effective even though I was breathing just fine and the pain was in my arm and neck.Anyway, I took out my nebulizer and albuterol and started the machine. I took one deep breath and the pain shot up from about a 5 to past a 10. I cried for my son to call 911.I made it to the local hospital, and they performed many tests and gave by nitro glycerin four times. They then stabilized me so that I could fly in the Flight for Life helicopter into the city for emergency surgery. In the city, I had a stent put in. That night, the nurse accidentally opened up my surgical site and blood splattered everywhere, making me lose so much blood that I needed two transfusions.I was told that I was lucky to be alive, and that I should have come in to the hospital when I first felt the pain in my arm and neck, and that that would have saved me a lot of trouble. I also suffered a mild brain injury because I didn’t have enough oxygen going to my head.

What causes a severe pain below my collar bone on the left side?

I know that our answers may seem repetitive for your question and maybe a little harsh but left-sided, chest pain questions are NOT for Quora. Myocardial infarction…aka…a heart attack can happen to just about anyone, regardless of your health status, age (over 25) or gender. You will not always experience the typical symptoms and you do not have to have all of them to be having an MI. ANY chest pain on the left side or middle of the chest that last more than a few minutes should be treated as an emergency until proven otherwise. Some typical and atypical MI symptoms are: chest pain that can feel like squeezing or pressure and heaviness, pain radiating to the left arm or jaw, pain radiating into the shoulders and back, crushing pain, shortness-of-breath, nausea, vomiting, sweating, sensation of heartburn and lightheadedness. Again, you do not have to experience all of these to be having a heart attack. Every minute of an MI costs you heart muscle and function. It is also important to call 911. They can do an ECG immediately to determine if you are having an MI. Then they can begin life-saving measures on the way to the hospital.
