Yeah, it’s dying so badly that you hear about a different team getting a record new TV deal every year, and you hear of teams building new, lavish ballparks, and players setting records in free-agent contract deals every year.Baseball lost its position as the No. 1 professional spectator sport in the United States to the NFL many years ago, and it’s likely not getting that status back, but that’s a long way from dying. Pro football just grew at a faster rate and eventually overtook baseball. And baseball is vastly more popular with some demographics than it is with others. Andrew McCutchen, the MVP center fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates and one of baseball’s few African-American superstar players, pointed out recently that the game wasn’t all that accessible to black Americans because of the high cost for youth participation. This is a legitimate concern, but it’s not anything that’s destroying the game. Baseball is the most popular sport in Japan and several Latin American nations, and second only to soccer in others. It’s played year-round in some parts of the world, and it’s popular enough to sustain a 162-game schedule plus playoffs in this country every year.And there’s another thing to consider about the statement that “baseball is dying.” Most of the people who say that don’t like baseball in the first place. So to them, baseball was already dead. To those of us who do like baseball, it’s very much alive and well.

Why do people play baseball when you can play cricket?

Baseball originated in England. There was a craze in the US in mid 19th Century. The national league was established even before the first ever international cricket match (cricket was being played otherwise even before). You can read more about the history of the game on Wikipedia and how it moved to other countries. But am basing this answer with the modern society in mind. Not many countries play baseball. only 8 played in the 2008 Olympics, most famous being US.  A country like US could have "introduced" the game of cricket much earlier. They didnt--reasons cud be--weather, finance, infra and other facilities. Most of the cricket playing nations belong to the Commonwealth. Thanks to the British. Its very difficult to start developing new grounds, bring in the coaching staff, maintain them, etc. There is a Cricket Association in US. Its in shambles though. Another reason could be the people, there is almost no interest for the game probably because cricket is far more technical and difficult to understand and play. The rules are complex too. So i guess Baseball is the easy way out---human tendency--which is why the whole world follows/plays football--its simple (at least to follow). Perhaps, a better question could be "Why did the English focus more on Cricket than on Baseball?"
