What is the best bait to catch Catfish?
blues and channels- cut bait, catch some skipjack and cut it up and put it on the hook flatheads - any thing live - bluegills, goldfish, chubs and remember big bait catches big fish lot of people sayin liver but i wouldnt for river fishin because it gets swept off the hook easily
Has anyone used fruit as bait?
Hey Josh, garlic cheese is a big thing around here when hatchery trout are planted. You'll see people carrying their rods, a stringer, a bag of hooks and sinkers and a tube of Velveeta Garlic Cheese. Don't see many people using Kraft, though... Anyway... I never even thought of the idea of using any kind of fruit as bait. I guess I'll have to try it now. I dunno if it'll work for cats here, but I'm pretty sure a cantaloupe's sweet smell and flavor would attract a carp. If not, that's gonna be a hell of a waste of a melon.
Squid as bait to catch freshwater catfish?
Catfish are basically the same any where you go. All catfish either salt or fresh use the same basic sensory modes to find food.What is different is the the food available to them in that certain body of water. They've gotten a 'taste" if you will for specific foods. With that said, these fish feed on what's available to them and have grown feeding on them. By adding a "new" food like squid to the plate, sure you'll attract them but will most likely happen is that you'll get a lot of " taste testers." They'll nip the bait, spit it out quickly and you'll be jerking the line like a fool every time it happens. Eventually you'll get the " Andrew Zimmern ( this guy eats any thing and everything) " of the catfish world but it'll be more work than it has to be. Stick to the foods the fish eat in the area, If you really want to try something, use a bit of squid with local bait and see what happens. If you think you can swing an all out intro with just squid, do it. It's fishing and every once in awhile you gotta do something off the wall.~good luck catchin'

Oh yeah. I had a guy catfish me. At least I think it was a guy. I guess I’ll never know.I “met” this guy on OkCupid and he seemed cute and looked good on paper, so I gave him my phone number so that we could text. There were soooo many red flags right off the bat.He would text me ALL DAY LONG starting early in the morning until late at night. This was a guy who was supposed to have a successful career. Who has time to text all day long and still get their work done? It seemed odd.The photos that he shared were a bit blurry and seemed cropped oddly. I asked a couple of times for more photos of him and both times it took him a long time to respond and the photos he sent were still of the same low quality.He did not want to talk on the phone or video chat.He claimed that he came to my town often for work and I asked when we could meet and he was very vague.He texted “lol” in lowercase constantly and in my experience that is just not something that men in their late 30’s have a habit of doing. Seemed immature.There were other red flags but I really liked talking to him so it took me a over a week before I finally decided to do some research. I had watched the MTV show Catfish multiple times and knew I could look up his phone number to find out an address and also used the reverse Google image search option to see where else this guy’s photos had been posted on the web.Turns out the phone was registered in Washington state and the location mostly checked out with what he had told me. That is when I did the reverse image search. Hahaha. Turns out the guy I had been chatting with had stolen the photos from the Twitter of some country music singer in Canada. I scrolled through the musician’s Twitter to see that the reason the photos I had been sent were low quality was because Mr. Catfish had been cropping out the guy’s girlfriend. Classy!!It was at about this time that Mr. Catfish texted me saying something along the lines of “Hey sexy! I can’t wait to meet you in person!” and I responded with, “Too bad that is never going to happen,” and that was literally the end of it. He never texted again.I ended up finding the Canadian musician on Facebook and sent him a message letting him know that his images were being used to catfish women online. He asked for the guy’s phone number so he could “give him a piece of his mind” and I happily handed it over.Not sure what, if anything, became of that, but needless to say, I was pretty proud of my detective work.
Can you use Spam for fish bait?
Catfish will eat anything. Bass are more picky. Spam will also catch Bream. Cut baits and prepared baits will work better though. I have caught catfish off bread, Ciggarrette butts, Bass lures, Crappie jigs, worms, blood bait, home made jello bait. Just about anything will work. I don't recamend the ciggerrette butt, but I was 18 ran out of bait and was bored.
Can you use sausage or hot dog meat as fishing bait ?
Bullhead and channel catfish will eat sausage and hotdog. Good luck getting bread to stay on a hook. People have used animal fat based soap for catfish. People use sweet corn for carp. People use slim jims for catfish.
