What are Bitmojis?

Bitmojis is from the company Bitstrips. An app that allows you to create comic strips, with customised avatars of yourself. It was late on that Snapchat brought the company in 2016, bringing it onto their platform and many others. Now nearly everyone who has snapchat will have one of these little avatars, it adds to the fun of the app. Your Bitmoji will appear with your Snapmaps, keyboards when talking and more.

Is there any app for making comic strips without using one's own pictures?

There are quite a few choices in terms of web based tools including the previously mentioned Bitstrips:I was a very early adopter of Bitstrips, and used it to produce Major Spoilers Adventures for Major Spoilers for about a year and a half. I also did the Scott McCloud 24 Hour comics challenge using Bitstrips in '08, '09 and in 2010. It is a good way to explore making your own comics, and the toolset allows you to experiment with layouts, it has a robust set of props for using in your strips and the character design tools are OK. Most of the characters have a homgenous look to them. You can read my Bitstrips work here to see the sorts of things that are possible: otterdisaster - Bitstrips Pixton Comic Maker is similar to Bitstrips with a bit of gamification, with a sort of points system earning additional features through making strips... At least it used to, I haven't used it in years to be honest. For a much different, somewhat sprite-based approach there is Stripgenerator.com - Comic Creating Community . I've used that site as well, but personally didn't find it as user friendly as Bitstrips. I do like the black and white icon style characters you can build there, and I think it has a pretty cool aesthetic.Toondoo Fastest Way to Create Comic Strips and Cartoons - is another site that allows you to make comic strips. It appears it has an art library with characters you can choose from. Looks like it is drag and drop, so maybe a little simpler than Bitstrips or Strip Generator.Chogger is another site that lets you create word balloons, panels and draw, but doesn't have the character building tools of other sites mentioned here. It might be good for using clip art or doing photo based comics.Strip Designer and Comic Life for iOS are apps for iPhone or iPad that have comic making tools (primarily with photos I think). I don't know much about either of them. Comic Life also has a desktop version, I believe.I'd say any and all of these could be a good fit depending on what kind of comics you hope to make. Good luck, make comics and let me know what you choose!

How did you react to reading the Red Wedding?

I was at the beach with a friend. The day was slightly overcast, she was reading a magazine and I was reading it on my Kindle. I felt something was odd but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Nothing would have prepared me for it because I understood the rules of hospitality and bread and salt and whatever else (in hindsight I should have foreseen it precisely because RR had just made it so clear, I guess I’m not that clever). So there I was. reading in silence and peace, in a cool wind and smelling salt water, comfortably sitting on my sling chair. When it happened. The bluntness of it all. The violence. Robb dies. Then Cat. The Lannisters send their regards. The tents on fire. Grey Wind getting shafted. I’ve re-read several chapters since I finished my second run with the books, but I could never make myself read this particular one again, so I have only a brief memory of it. Then Aria runs and gets hit by an axe or hammer or something like it. THAT I knew was just a cliffhanger, That, at least, I knew was misdirection and that she was safe. But for all the others… all the Stark army… Robb and Cat…I stopped reading and looked at the ocean. I turned to my friend, oblivious to my loss. I think I stood there, silent, looking at the ocean, for almost thirty minutes, trying to make sense of what I had just read, about how wrong it was, about the sudden turn in the war and the deceitfulness of that Frey douchebag. My friend finally asked what was wrong. What could I tell her? How could I explain to her the weight and consequence of those actions? She had never even seen the show (the first season had finished one or two months before). All I said was that I had just read something horrible and unthinkable and that was wrong, wrong, wrong on so many levels…Instead I got my phone and tried to reach the two friends I know who were ahead of me in the books. I needed to share it with somebody who would understand. Because I sure didn’t.Damn you, Walder Frey. Damn you Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister. Damn you George rr Martin. And thank you, George rr Martin for such a great storytelling and for taking me along on this incredible ride.
