Does Ativan Cause Permanent Changes In Your Brain Chemistry

How does ativan work ?

I don't quite know how much you need to know about how Ativan works, or if I could explain it without using a bunch of technical terms, but it effects a chemical in your brain called GABAa by changing how the brains' chemical receptor use this chemical. Ativan is what they call a short acting benzodiazepine. You were prescribed to take it three times a day because it only lasts a few hours before it wears off. You are taking the smallest dose at .5mg and within about 3 or 4 weeks you will get used to it and it will not make you groggy and tired. In fact within about 6 weeks your brain chemistry will be changed so much so that you will wantt to take more and more to get the effect you are looking for. This is where addiction comes into play and that is a very serious concern. Many doctors will not prescribe drugs like Ativan because of the potential for abuse and for being not that great of effect for long term relief. Just be careful.

Which Causes Less Brain Damage Over Time? Benzodiazepines Or Alcohol?

Benzodiazepines and alcohol are both addicting drugs. There is no evidence that benzodiazepines cause brain damage but there is abundant evidence that long term heavy drinking causes brain tissue to shrink (atrophy), ventricular enlargement (resulting in less brain mass), degenerative nerve disorders multiple peripheral nervous system, endrine, gastrointestinal, and other disorders and in cases of physical dependence, potentially life threatening withdrawal. However, these changes occur after many years of chronic (every day) heavy (at least 6 drinks and probably more) drinks per day. On the other hand, while benzodiazepines do not seem to cause so much damage, they are in some ways easier to become addicted to. Both impair driving and other skills but both also decrease anxiety. Although their antianxiety effects share very similar neurochemistry (Cl- changes in GABA neurons in the brain), alcohol only works in very low doses (i.e., 1 drink) and the effect disappears with tolerance. Higher doses have the opposite effect. Benzodiazepines are most often prescribed specifically for anxiety, but they are addictive and don't always work. Dealing with "some angxt" is part of dealing with life. Another poster made some good suggestions (not the St. John's Wart or 5 HTP suggestion as those are neither reliably effective or safe; and diet, while important has nothing to do with anxiety). Execise and practice are good ways to deal with dating anxiety. If it's possible, there are probably some things you can state right away to you date that you don't want to do or that make you uncomfortable right now. Dating anxiety is normal. Be guided by what you want not what others expect.

If psychiatric drugs don't cause physical brain damage then shouldn't the effects be reversible?

The physical brain damage caused by these medications, especially the benzodiazepines or mild tranquilizers (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium, etc….) takes place at the molecular and cellular levels. Benzos damage the GABA receptors in the amygdala, the organ in the brain that regulates anxiety. They also cause significant damage to the mitochondria - the tiny brain or furnace inside each neuron. While rarely used brain-scanning technologies can examine damage at the molecular and cellular levels, I found only one study directly addressing this issue on http://pudmed.com under the keywords “neuroimaging psychiatric medications damage.” It strictly addresses the impact of anti-psychotics on the elderly at the genetic level. In addition, brain scanning technologies no longer enjoy their past credibility.A recent groundbreaking Swiss study based on three million simulations of 499 control groups or “idle thinkers” found a 70% false signal rate in the fMRI, calling into question the results of 40,000 studies worldwide. As it turns out, computer programmers know nothing about neuroscience; and neuroscientists know a whole lot less about the brain than they pretend, leaving too much lost in translation, slipping through the cracks in millions of lines of code. The study above used the three most popular computer algorithms designed to interpret fMRI results. If you survive withdrawal, the good news is the GABA receptors and even mitochondrial damage can be reversed to a varying extent if you provide the brain with the resources it needs to heal.

Is anxiety really caused by a chemical imbalance?

My boyfriend has also been experiencing anxiety since he was in High School. It was affecting our relationship so he decided to go to a doctor and the doctor perscribed him lexapro (I think that's how its spelled). I didn't want him to. I noticed a change in him and he was relying on the medication which really bothered me! I told him to get off the medication and he did. We decided to deal with his anxiety natrually. He's turning 20 and Its been 2 years without him taking his medication and we've seen a huge progress! The reason why is because he told me what to do when his anxiety hits and he also explained to me what to and not to do. He also learned how to control himself which is good. There are a few holes on the walls in the house from him punching and kicking it lol but he has never once hurt somebody. His mom and I got him a punching bag where he let's all his anger out and he uses my drum set to also let his anger out. I wouldn't trust those medicines. My boyfriend was either depressed or looked very drugged out which I didn't like. Who knows what's in that medication! It will take time for you to learn how to control it. You should also talk to your family and tell them ways they can help you out when your anxiety hits. Its worked great for my boyfriend and I. I hope this helps a little!

Will there be an interaction between Adderall, Ativan, and Risperidone if taken at separate times?

YES! No matter what ANYONE else tells you.I am not a doctor but I have consumed enough chemicals to FILL a Holliday Inn Express!Adderall is pure speed! Pure amphetamine dulled by a chemical process and salted to taste. Christ, even sweetened. I kid you NOT.The over thinking mind should be fostered, NOT dulled.Respiradon is an antipsychotic in need of an antipsychotic! It is usually prescribed to the normal average psychotic person who walks into a Psychiatrist's office and says, “geeze doc, this consumer driven world steered by the bullshit hands of bullshit politicians, really has got me THINKING” at that moment the Doc begins writing the script. This bull shit drug is sweetened also and carries a nice box warning that somehow excludes mentioning cancer directly. I am not a chemist holding any degree but the subfix “done” when relating to pharmaceuticals usually indicates the brain will carry a heavy residual abundance of the active molecules. This insurers that odd thinking will not return. The build up works so well that should you stop taking it…. Those odd thoughts will be the least of your worries as SUDDEN STOPPAGE SYNDROME will occur. Junkies call this withdrawal! There are plenty of drugs to treat those who REALLY may need them. Most DO NOT.Adderalll is a 1 way ticket to dependence if taken as prescribed. There is no necessity to await a “build up” for the drug to work. There is no need to take this drug daily as it will loose its desired effects until once again you are taking it because it is too uncomfortable to stop taking it. I use adderall as I so choose. 1 or 2 times a month. My recreation being a need to stay awake past 10pm. Concerts usually, as I am the DD.I believe we should be allowed to ingest what ever we so choose. I do not advocate recreational drug use. However, once you ride the roller coaster??? If you like it, you will return. Please, enjoy the whole park!Consider that maybe you are the one who is thinking RIGHT. We treat symptoms while ignoring the reasons! Perfect Insanity!
