Is it good to drink a protein drink (protein powder with milk or water) before bed?

It depends on what type of protein you are taking in and do you strength train or not.Strength Training: When you strength train you damage your muscles. Your body then repairs the damage and in the process makes them stronger. This process of repair happens when you sleep. Your body therefore needs protein during sleep to do the repair. However if you do not strength train then your body does not need that much protein, so there is no point in taking protein, it will all be wasted or stored as fat.Type of Protein: The two most common proteins available supplement are Whey and Casein. Below are the videos detailing what they are and how they functionWhey is fast acting protein which gets digested really fast, while casein is digested slowly. So when you go to sleep, it is better for you to take Casein as it will be digested slowly and will provide you a steady dose of amino acids. Whey is not ideal as it will just spike protein levels in your body and then your body will not have protein for the rest of the night.I hope this was helpful. Is 97 milligrams of caffine a good, healthy amount?

I always feel so much better when I get my dunkin donuts coffee, (medium sized, iced latte). But I'm always afraid to have too much caffeine since I suffer from stress which leads to anxiety.. It says that the medium size has 97 mg of coffee. Is this a good amount? Idk, I'm only 5'2 and I weight 115 lbs if that matters.

Why does coffee make me sleepy instead of active? I’m an 18 year old female and I’ve been drinking coffee since I was 13 or so. Does this mean I’m tolerant or something?

The caffeine in coffee works as a stimulant primarily by blocking a neuromodulator called adenosine. In a normal waking cycle, adenosine gradually accumulates at certain synapses in the brain and in doing so will contribute to increasing drowsiness. But caffeine acts as an adenosine antagonist, blocking the sites to which it binds and preventing it from working — the result is a feeling of increased alertness and energy which begins within a few minutes of consumption and continues for several hours. However, the body will tend to produce more adenosine to compensate for the fact that adenosine doesn't seem to be working under the influence of caffeine; this means that once the caffeine wears off, increased drowsiness is likely to result. This 'vicious cycle' is responsible for the addictive quality of caffeine, and withdrawal for a very heavy and regular caffeine user can be most unpleasant and even medically dangerous in some cases.I am aware of no clear-cut pharmacological reason that caffeine in and of itself should make a person feel sleepy rather than wakeful, but I can think of several murky possibilities:The coffee you are drinking may not be very "strong," and is perhaps weakly brewed with a low caffeine content. Try ordering an Americano with two shots of espresso and drinking it quickly on an empty stomach; if that makes you sleepy, I'd be concerned about your planet of origin!Your coffee may be heavily sweetened, and the drowsying effects of the associated sugar crash may be stronger than the opposite effects of the caffeine. There is some evidence that stimulants affect persons with ADD/ADHD much differently than others, though this distinction is mainly applied to a family of stimulant drugs which are dissimilar to caffeine, and your reaction to caffeine should not be taken as a marker for such disorders.Caffeine does seem to affect different people in different ways — but caffeine does not chemically induce drowsiness as a primary effect and would never be used in such a way by a physician, for example, so it is probable that something quite funny is going on if you find that even large doses of caffeine routinely make you sleepy.

SMOKING? Why isn't it socially acceptable in the US?

It's complete control over our lives. Smoking is bad, okay, but it's your car and your house. No one really should have a say what you do in private. I heard you can't even smoke in prison, so don't get locked up! People on death row can't smoke. I wonder what the logic in that is. I am not a criminal or am I defending any, but I think it's stupid. Smoking is just one of the many things we can't do anymore. It has to start somewhere. It's only gonna take more and more rights away from us. This is just the beginning for all you non smokers who think it's great. Just wait until all your rights are gone. The you will be singing a different tune. In the meantime, enjoy all the healthy food additives that you eat every day. Government doesn't seemed to concerned with high fructose corn syrup and MSG. Nah, those things are good for you, especially the hydrogenated oil, all perfectly legal here but yet banned in countries that allow smoking. Has anyone even read up on the rBGH, the bovine growth hormone that is artificial and added to your milk. Or what about aspartame. Whatever you do, don't smoke pot, but make sure you take healthy legal drugs which side effects are sometimes fatal, as shown on TV. Yes, it's all good.

Just want to say one thing about people who talk about ciggs on the street. I would agree, ONLY after you pick up all your garbage I see littered everywhere. These people speak as if garbage is okay. I see tires in the streams, floating soda bottles in the water, candy wrappers, littered beaches, oil on the waters, trash everywhere!... just make sure you don't throw your cigarette out, that's so much worse. I live near a Dunkin Donuts and enjoy looking at empty coffee cups all the time. I don't see too many cigarette butts, but I do see alot of other garbage.

Is flavored coffee okay to drink on a ketogenic diet?

Coffee made with flavored coffee beans such as hazelnut roast, vanilla nut coffee, etc. are all fine on a ketogenic diet when consumed without added sugar. Sweetening the coffee with common keto-friendly sweeteners like stevia drops or erythritol is also fine, as there are no added net carbs from doing this.Adding a small amount of keto-friendly creamer such as heavy whipping cream (HWC) to these coffee drinks is also fine, but one needs to pay close attention to the amount of carbs introduced from the creamer. A tablespoon of HWC contains slightly less than 1g of carbohydrate, and most ketogenic dieters will limit total net carbs per day of no more than 20–30g.Drinking coffee flavored with flavored creamer is typically *not* okay for a ketogenic diet. This is a Keto No-No!For example, one tablespoon of International Delight’s vanilla creamer contains 5g of sugar, which is about 25% of the totall allowed net carbs for the day. You get try and get technical and say that it’s still technically under the limit, but anyone that tries to let this pass as OK is probably going to rationalize a bunch of other hidden carbs throughout the day and find that they aren’t actually in ketosis or getting results from their diet. The short answer: Look at the nutrition label for what you’re consuming. If there’s any more than 1–2g of carbs in a given serving, you may want to look at a different beverage option.I’ve studied nutrition in college and the science of ketosis and have been on a strict ketogenic diet for over a year. I coach and advise a small but growing group of folks on ketogenic diet success, with each person consistently losing between 5 and 10 pounds per month. Remember, it’s a marathon and not a sprint— slow and steady success is far more likely to be permanent!
